Turbo 1200 Dyno run

Been on this forum since the beginning, I think BJ and OT have as well. Some good summer fun going on. The 4-TEC has me very interested and some good info . 4-bangers arnt for everyone, but this sled is looking good, just wish there was a mountain version so I dont have to build my own.

Any new dyno's from dynotech research? Read though most of the turbo posts last night in the subscribers forum. Very interesting stuff.

Hatchers, you are going to love your M8T.

Justin Full Power is coming tomorrow (fourth dyno session) with stage 2 4tek turbo, one size larger turbo for trail/ lakerace/ hillclimb. Late PM, live on dynocams. Also D&D/ Glenn Hall raised the bar for all out dragrace HP here today, 537chp F1200 boondocker drag turbo.

Fact here is there are two types of people haggling here and one that haggles because merely it is all he has to offer:confused:...........

One has the facts/experience by doing and the other thinks he has the facts by watching someone else do it:rolleyes:.............

Place your bets...........:face-icon-small-win

-Grover

Doesn't that make three types? :D BTW None of us are buying a TV here so what's with the "Haggling" coment?

Justin is dyno testing 4tek stage 2 turbo today and tomorrow, dynocams off, may post final numbers next week. Looking good so far.

Why no Dynocams? The 427Hp claim seems a bit much for the Doo 4tec and stock motor, even as a lake racer this does not mean that a Boosted 4tec will make it a mile or 2 from the truck heading for waist deep pow in the mountains. After all the issues with 07 Doo's and the Xp blowin everything from cranks/driveshafts/clutching/Belts and more belts as well as having Doo blow people off on warranty claims and issues. My dealer told me it would be easy to pull my XP out of the mountains if my driveshaft blew apart because they were nice and light. All the run arounds on the warranty issues and the overall lack of durability on the 07/08 Doo has people bailin to buy a different brand. It would be nice to see the Boosted Doo 4tec work in the mountains, but i guess we will see in November/December if these things work.

We're beginning today's session at 8am est, I will try to get Justin to leave control room dynocam on so you can at least see HP readout on the large dyno monitor while we test. Justin's understandably keeping tech details to himself until kits go out the door. This is not a drag engine like bennett's its a kit for pump gas trailriding that can be tweaked up with good gas when desired to go from 200 hp 87 octane to ??? hp on 100 plus octane either with stock muffler or turbo muffler. We'll find out today. Got to go.

Just got back from the fourth and final day dyno testing/ evaluating/ fine tuning with Justin Full Power, specs finalized for Stage 2 w/ slightly larger turbo, 190hp on lowest octane 5psi boost, up to 220 lb/ft & 340hp with eerily quiet stock muffler (ran w/ 100plus octane), even more w/ turbo muffler. Forty more dyno pulls, not one click from deto. Will post dyno sheets incl fuel flow, A/F ratio, BSFC and BSAC, boost level, airflow CFM plus graphs of power curves @ various boost levels, probably tomorrow.

The stage 2 kit is what I will have for show at Hay Days...and then it will go on my sled ASAP....Just the numbers I was looking for...BJ

192-202 on 87 octane, 351hp on 108 octane, same kit just flip the boost switch. Those tests and a bunch in between will be posted on DTR tomorrow.

so the stage 2 is 190 hp on 87? What about stage 1? Is there a stage 1?

Did you try running it on premium? What did it put out?

I know the results are in tomorrow, but this is interesting today. :D

Stage I and II same 87 octane limit, about 200CHP. Stage II has larger turbo good for 350 plus HP worth of air, and stage II has injectors able to flow enough fuel for 350 as well. But even with the slightly larger turbo the 4TEK with boost seems 87 octane limited to 190-200 to be cautious and safe.

Remember published reports in Car and Driver show that when you buy 92-93 octane 10% of the time you get ripped off with 87 or worse. Dateline NBC bought 93 at an Exxon station in CA and it tested at 75 octane!!! So the wise rider will tune for 87, or add 10% to 100% leaded race gas or Av gas and tweak boost, and live long and happy with that.

My gut feel is after watching Bennett and Fuller tune here with boost is that maybe octane requirement increases as the square of boost/ HP. I'm betting that 300HP 4TEK would be safe at 11/1 on the Full power kit with 100LL Av gas. We were fine at 350 with 108 octane, Bennett made 427 on 120 octane, and 450 or 500 HP will also likely require 120 octane. But maybe 250HP is fine with true, real, no cheating 93. But I would hate to see the results at 250HP the first time a guy got ripped off with 87.

I love boost. Got twin Garrett GT25s on my 2000 Silverado 5.3 truck, 120,000 with the turbos installed on Day One. The reason the truck has been reliable is I've left the boost at 6-7 psi and have had eight years of great fun with it. Sure it makes way more power at 10 psi but I remember the Dateline NBC scenario, and since my ears are shot from years of abuse and can't hear deto in the V8 I play it safe with 87 octane safe boost. Once in a while I treat myself with some 100 unleaded gas in the truck, flip the boost switch to 10-11psi and then I can look like a 59 year old ashhole making tire smoke in a pickup. But it still makes me grin.
