The moose threw the first punch...

This is awkward for me too.... Never even looked at what type of sled it was... Just thought Since Snowmow is a life member he must be very knowledgeable of anything to do with snowmobiles... Thats how it works right?

Wrong. I'm a life member because I had 6000 posts, 4000 of wich were useless fouled plug posts. I just assumed it was a Polaris rider based upon the short fuse that everyone in the Polaris forum has. I would have never thought a easy going, etec loving, BRP fan would have unloaded on a poor moose. Who knew!!!

the guy did the best he could have under the circumstances. it's one thing to watch a video and be an arm chair quarterback, it's another thing to face down a moose that has already attacked you once. they can easily kill a man and have kill many times before. don't be so quick to judge what to do until you've been there.

snomo you'd think after all those posts they'd be getting better by now. it's the law of averages:face-icon-small-win

Quick to judge are you kidding me! The guy seen the moose and continued to move towards it. There was plenty of room to drive off the trail on the left side. I wish it would have kicked his @ss the first time!

Ive been in a similar situation but on a dirtbike, and no I did not have a gun.. BUT, what I did to avoid getting attacked you ask? I didn't come towards the moose and piss it off, in fact I kept a nice distance to where I could watch it but be safe at the same time, because im not a hunter I dont see many moose so its nice to make it last sometimes.

There is not Always a way around. But in this case there was.

Obviously mtncat hasn't been on a sled long enough to have encountered a "wild animal". Or maybe he has and that's why the gray squril population is on the decline. " I could have swore that squril was gunna charge me". Bla bla bla.

I have been there~ i have had three heart attacks and a quad by pass, I have had one charge~ and i sure as heck didn't have to shoot~but he brought this on by pushing closer and closer~~ the human is supposed to be the smart one but didn't prove that way in this case~ he was on a sled~~ ride it~ go around~~ the moose was going only where it could and that was where it was packed down. The sled could of very easily went around~proves there are idiots out there with guns and ya can't fix stupid~~ in his actions. and you are entitled to your opinion~ i can't force you to be right~

Not only does he give snowmobilers a bad name, he also gives hunters and gun owners in general a bad name!!! What an idiot!!! I'm all for defending yourself, if the situation calls for it, but there was plenty he could have done to avoid pissing that moose off to the point where he had to defend himself!!

Also, shooting that moose (whether right or wrong) and leaving it while it was still alive was complete and utter BS!!

This SOB needs to be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!!!!

Kind of on another note here... Is every Americans first thought "Oh Sh*T get the gun!"? Seems like it is. Not sure about most users here but me as a Canadian I probably would of started by freaking out when I got hit, starting my sled, likely accidentally pinning it and falling off backwards than quickly building an igloo to hide in. Camouflage.

I'm no advocate of the Canadian gun laws what so ever. You should be able to decide what you carry and why. And if you abuse it like the 51 year old with a bad heart. Well you should have to pay the consequence.

Dont worry Snowmow im joking:face-icon-small-win But you dont even want me to get into Canadian gun laws... Not very friendly for sure.

I would have handled it differently my
self but I wasn't facing it down some one else was. videos can be very deceiving as to distances and terrain. that moose wasn't going away it had blood in it's eyes and had already attacked once. as far as finishing it off there is no more dangerous animal than a wounded one. moose seem like they wouldn't be that dangerous but there have been several fatalities in Utah over the years from moose attacks. remember hind sight is always perfect and I'm sure the guy in the video wished it wouldn't have come to what it did. just sayin. by the snowmo ive been riding sleds for over 30 years. I'm also an avid mountain biker and dirt bike rider. I also spend a lot of time in the outdoors and encountered many deer and elk and a few lions while mountain biking and snowmobiling.

That moose didn't attack until AFTER this dumbazz got closer, and closer and invaded it's space!! He could have stayed where he was in the first 5 seconds of the video, and had a much better chance of not pissing that moose off! OR he could have followed the tracks to the left and most likely have removed himself from the possible danger! Was there a 100% chance that the moose would not have come after him, had he done one (or both) of those 2 things?? NO Damn sure he had a much better chance though of not aggravating the situation!

marty there is no such thing as a 100% sure out come. like I said I wouldn't of handled it that way, but I wasn't there and neither were you. I would bet that guy that got killed by a moose at park west a few years back was sure he would be fine before he left on his hike, but he can't say because he was killed by an aggressive moose. I also had a close friend chased for over an hour by a moose while elk hunting above strawberry. he didn't shoot it but it was close to that kind of a situation.

Go back RE-read what I posted!! I NEVER said there was 100% chance he would have avoided it!! There's always variables. I'm saying in THIS situation, this guy was the initial aggressor!!

.......but he can't say because he was killed by an aggressive mouse

:pound:
