The moose threw the first punch...

One of the links I saw two days ago described the situation as...

A family on rentals sleds...novice riders with no off trail experience. The moose previoulsy charged his kids. Camera gets turned on...Man got in front and was making noise to try and scare off the moose. Moose charges again.

Moose charges again...man in front of his kids. Man shoots moose. They drive off regroup in the meadow and access injuries.

I wouldn't have shot the Moose..I don't carry a gun sledding.

I did not see this post as I was typing my last reply, but this gives a little more insight into the possible cause of the outcome. Video still should probably have not been posted on the internet, but for all we know could have been justified.

You ever shot a deer right through the heart, and then tracked it for miles to no avail while it pumps all it's blood out Marty??? Time it takes to stop and put another one in it could be enough time for the moose to get up and pummel the guy again. I wouldn't f$%k with a wounded alive animal, adrenaline can be an amazing thing.

Don't confuse this guys. The original post say he was riding with his "son". Obviously he's the one that meets him in the meadow. At 46 seconds it sounds like to me his son screams to him " let him go" or something like that. Last I knew modern rental sleds have reverse and there ar usually more than one trail in the mountains. For being so inexperienced they were sure on a small un groomed trail.

You guys act as if there was no way around the situation. That guy did everything wrong right from the beginning. And made the worst mistake of all. Posting that video on the Internet.

I will I agree with not posting it, I would not have. But, as far as the rest of it goes, were any of you there in the heat of the moment????

Heat of the moment life and death situations require fast action, not something that is always conducive to the "best" decisions being made, yet a decision must still be made.....fast!!! He made a decision based on the situation as he perceived it, is it what you would do?? Maybe not, is it what I would do?? I don't know, wasn't there. But it was his decision to make at the time he made it, and he may have to deal with any consequences that might come with it. I can tell you this much, I was charged and almost trampled one time by a pi$$ed of bull when we were gathering them from the cows and had I had a gun, that f$%ker would have been dead.

I sort of think he was justified shooting the moose since his kids were with him. When I was little me and my sisters got chased by a moose and had there not been an old threshing machine to hide in it probably wouldn't have ended well, those things are mean lol. That said, he definitely was trigger happy and should have quietly turned around, yelling and moving towards a moose is not a good idea.

You guys ever seen a moose in deep snow? You can obviously see that moose felt trapped, the way it was pacing it knew it couldn't move if it stepped off the trail, if there was a way out of the moose or would have taken it. If the story is True and they had a previous confrontation with the moose and came back for more. That only makes the mater worse.

Amazing how the story changes every time, yet the video (edited as it is) still shows a ***** with a gun with no urgency to do anything except leave!
Yet Nancy gets manly and shoots..obviously the moose understands" stand your ground"
should begin with a warning.
Bet that's a trip Nancy's "partner" will long remember.

I don't feel its ever justified when your own actions cause an animal to attack. Moose may be aggressive but give them their space and they won't bother you.

So you are out walking through the mountains, unaware there is a bear cub in your vicinity and mom charges you. You have no right to protect yourself or your group?? After all, your actions took you to the mountains into known bear country. Yes, I know the guy knew the moose was there, but maybe he was doing what tudizzle reported he had heard, trying to protect the children of his group. We don't know.
