The end of Chevy trucks????

I know I am done with GMC/CHEVY after my latyest problem. I bought a new 2500 and the damn thing has been sitting at the dealership for about 3 1/2 months so far waiting for a front axle. Thanks to that lame american axle company strike.. That is really what atarted all this. They had to lay off lots of people and shut down alot of plants due to that strike.

The heck with the small cars....there isn't enough protection. I would rather pay more money a year in transportation costs than have my wife drive one of those rolling coffins. There are plenty of options out there anyway that are economical and still get good enough fuel mileage.
As far as pickups go. I am perfectly happy driving my 7 year old pickup with only 79,000 miles What a new pickup payment would cost me.....that will pay for a lot of maintenance costs and gas.

BTW... I have a 2005 VW Golf TDI. I get between 42-48 MPG.

Economy car does not always mean Hybrid. I can do 95 up most passes along I-70. If I do it from a stop it will take a bit but once I hit highway speeds, I run great.

Hmmmmm, isn't the speed limit on I-70 at the most 75 mph..... You will make a CO State Troopers day sometime......:D

An F1 Ferrari is probably less likely to roll over than your car is, I wonder if the Ferrari will haul the family, presents, and all the other stuff 300 miles home for Xmas ? All I know is every year the semi's get longer and bigger and they drive faster and I would like my wife to have a fighting chance against them.

They do make hatch backs in smaller vehicles.

I remember hearing something that seems relevant here.

The amount of space required is equal to the amount of space you have.

I am not really trying to argue the point about you needing a particular size of vehicle, but when you go from a larger vehicle to a smaller one it will be a change, but was all the stuff in the larger vehicle really necessary to begin with, or was it there because you had extra space for it? Something to think about.

I would think with the large increase of fuel prices, trucks would be driving slower to save on fuel/ operating costs, increasing their profits.

The need of a bigger vehicle to be safe can be a self defeating prophecy. People buy bigger vehicles to be safer, then you need a bigger vehicle to be as safe when had the other vehicle. A lot of it has to do with speed. I know I have been changing my driving habits and using cruise on the interstates at 60 mph. Yah I am in the slow lane, and it takes me longer to get places, but I have seen a pretty big change in my mpg.

Just some thoughts.

heres your small car in a 15 mph accident:eek:

On the pass it is 60-65 depending where at. I have slowed down for the most part but I can't say I haven't sped. I have been hit by the poo poo before and I will probably be hit again, but knowing when and where to speed is the key. I have a good detector and I know that does not make me ticket proof. Keeping your eyes open is key. When you drive this road twice a week and have been doing so for over 3 years, you know where they hang out.

HMMMMM--Speeding, avoiding the law, using radar detectors---but we are the badguys because we still prefer to drive our suv's at the speed limit ?????????

fuel

some of the problem is i agree with those that require a big vehicle for a living. that is there work horse machine that is okay, but there is alot of people that are driving a big ol suburban or a hummer by themselves to work. ride moped to work or a small cruiser and save the gas drinker for the weekends
thats not the whole problem but it would help the pocket book if one where able to

It doesn't always make sense. But if you put some decent mileage on and are already in the market for a car it makes a lot of sense to buy a car that gets good economy.

I drive over 30k miles a year. Now you do the math on a car that gets 30 MPG and one that gets 45 MPG. Now do it with a truck that might get 18 MPG.

Again, there is not great equity in a car, but if you buy the right one there can be more than you think. What about the equity in keeping the miles off of your $50k truck?

My $50K truck? I let some other sucker buy the 50K truck, then I buy it used after he takes the depreciation butt-kicking.

Huh?

You don't speed? Nothing illegal about a radar detector. Avoiding the law? compared to what? Seeking them out?
Who here doesn't avoid the law?

I really don't care what you do or what you drive. When my car is paid off I will buy a truck or SUV. I can't afford to drive an SUV/Truck the 30,000 miles a year I drive.

Do I think it is wastefull to drive an SUV/Truck just to say you have one? Yup. Do I care if you do it? Not really.
