The end of Chevy trucks????

For the $20-30,000 to buy a economy car, I can buy ALOT of fuel for my truck.

True, but with fuel you are litterally flushing money down the drain, at least if you buy a car you have some sort of equity.

I am not saying you should just buy a new car, but if you are already in the market for a new vehicle, then at this point in time you are a fool if you don't consider the price of fuel and economy.

I drive and economy car and most trucks and SUV's cant maintain the speeds I can going up the passes in Colorado. Call it a roller skate if you like.

The point DogMeat was making is that the majority of SUV and Trucks owners really don't need that much vehicle. There are a few that do, and there are probably more on this forum that do, but in general people buy too much vehicle.

Gottalove ruffyryder... does the most *****in and complaining and is in every post showing everybody his vast knowledge. You know just enough about everything to be dangerous, you just stop at the wrong place.... right before you get the truth.

Liberal democrats, killing one baby at a time whether you like it or not.

Man, the only thing that scares me worse than the far left is the far right.

What does NEED have to do with it, I drive a Diesel truck, Yes I NEED it sometimes but I WANT it ALL the time. Do you NEED a Sled?? NO, BUT you WANT one, So why are you so bent on everyone driving a small car?? Drive what ever you want and we will too.

And what trucks can't keep up to your little car up hill??

Equity, in a car....? In five years your economy car will be worth as much as the fuel winterbrew burned up in his pickup. You need to drive a lot of miles to pay for one of those little cars. If you go buy a used pos, maybe a different story.

Thank you duffman. I almost pizzed my pants when I read "equity in a car." I REALLY laugh at these clowns that buy another vehicle just to bomb around in and talk about all the fuel they're saving. Sure, you're saving fuel, but forgot about their initial investment and the additional insurance, plates and maintenance. It doesn't make sense in most cases.

I did the math also. It doesnt make sense in my situation either. I guess its going to be $4/gallon into my V8.

On the other hand....the little econo-box doubles as a coffin in the event of an accident so you save $$ on burial costs....."Here lies ----- at 50mpg".

Same here. I just cut out the useless trips for my own amusement and quit smashing on the loud pedal, just for the sake of it.

I hear ya there. I think I'm one of the safer drivers on the road (and my driver's abstract proves that), but that doesn't stop some other tool from driving over or through me.

yup.. i really dont need my 2500 crew duramax but, i want it! we all dont need 75% of the things we have..

by the way, i dont want to sell my truck but, since they are cutting down production, it should make the value go up.. :face-icon-small-win who wants to buy it before they become extinct..

Agree 100%. I'd be dead if I was in a prius on thanksgiving 2002. Drunk ran into me head on. My truck was totalled, but it was bigger than his ford escape wagon, so I walked away and he went to the hospital.

One of the safer drivers on the road? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I still get queasy just thinking about that ride from Revy to Banff w/ you.;) On the other hand we did make in piece!:D

And for the record, I'd rather be burried in my fuel guzzling Duramax; than caught alive in one of those roller skates!

the pickup is getting parked and i am going to find a little kia rio or spectra.
they are only about $10,000. In about 2 years it willhave saved me enough money in gas to pay for the car. I just can't justify driving my truck around all the time.

That'll buy 2500 gallons of fuel.....then add the $50-80/ month for the additional insurance....then add the cost of fuel and maintainance for the new econo car....any interest if a loan is involved. Just make sure it comes out in your favor.
I got a car for free that got 35mpg and I couldn't justify keeping it just for the insurance costs.

My car is over 3 years old and has 85k miles on it and I can easily sell it for $17k right now. Not bad considering I paid right at $20k for it.
Yes, there is little equity in a car.

BTW... I have a 2005 VW Golf TDI. I get between 42-48 MPG.

Economy car does not always mean Hybrid. I can do 95 up most passes along I-70. If I do it from a stop it will take a bit but once I hit highway speeds, I run great.

It doesn't always make sense. But if you put some decent mileage on and are already in the market for a car it makes a lot of sense to buy a car that gets good economy.

I drive over 30k miles a year. Now you do the math on a car that gets 30 MPG and one that gets 45 MPG. Now do it with a truck that might get 18 MPG.

Again, there is not great equity in a car, but if you buy the right one there can be more than you think. What about the equity in keeping the miles off of your $50k truck?

That is not exactly true. Depending on the vehicle. Smaller cars can have great crash ratings. Yes if they are facing off against a larger vehicle, physics comes into play. But when you drive an SUV or a truck you also increase the likelihood of a roll over. Statistically you are increasing your odd of BEING IN an accident. They don't stop or handle as well as a smaller car.

An F1 Ferrari is probably less likely to roll over than your car is, I wonder if the Ferrari will haul the family, presents, and all the other stuff 300 miles home for Xmas ? All I know is every year the semi's get longer and bigger and they drive faster and I would like my wife to have a fighting chance against them.

I agree, there are some cars that are safer than any truck or SUV, but typically comes at a premium price. The trend right now is guys buying Goe Metro's, Corolla's, CRX's etc....no air bags, like being in a beer can getting hit by a sledgehammer. :beer;
