The end of Chevy trucks????

Ford has cut back production on their Trucks/SUV's also. I was on I-29 yesterday coming up from Sioux City and passed one of those mini pickup things, you know the go-kart with a cab and bed, how can those even be allowed on the Interstates? and is that going to be the next pickup???

Another sign of us joining the ranks of the European countries driving around in compacts and motorscooters. The daughter was asking tonight about snowmobiling (she's 11 and already asking about next season!!), so we sat down and figured it out and I've got to say.... things will definately be different. Just for gas and diesel for a 3 day trip for 3 sleds is going to be $940.00, at today's prices. Sorry kids, looks like were going to have to find something else to do, going to the Hills every other weekend, like we've done for the last 6-7 years, does not look promising.

This has nothing to do with "greenies".

It has to do with DEMAND. The market is not buying as many trucks/suv's, why would you (as a manufacture) continue to produce them at the old rate? The market is calling for more cars, so give them what they want.

What ^^^^^^ he said.

It has to do with cost to drive and own.
Why pay 35-40k for something that only gets 12-15 miles to the gallon.
Most trucks aren't driven by people that actually use them. They just like the size and way they handle and feel.

When gas gets this expensive they learn to like the way a little care feels, that gets 30mpg.

I talked to my local ford dealer and they said they sold 150 ford focuses and no trucks

Ford's plan

Dodge will take over the truck market because they can get 40mpg. (I had a guy I work with swear up and down his Dodge pickup, chipped, is getting 40mpg):rolleyes:

Thats like 1240 miles to a tank...wow!!hehe Dodge is however bringing out small V-6 and V-8 diesels for there 1500 pickups that should push a 4x4 to around 25 mpg. The tourque on the V-8 is sposed to be 460ish, so it should tow good. To put it in perspective, the Yota 5.7 and the 09 Hemi 5.7 make about 400 lb ft. The GM light duty diesel sounds interesting as well. With the new clutchless 6 spd manual transmissions coming in the Dodge, this should improve mileage also. Dodge just announced there 09 5.7 Hemi with VVT and MDS in a 2wd pickup will be rated at 23 mpg US and around 27 imp. It looks like there is a bit of help coming.

GM cutback on trucks

By the time the mfrs get done reducing production, you can be the price for the fewer trucks will be higher. The claim will be loss of economy of scale. Sure, the market is causing them to build fewer, but have you seen goods cost less in any restricted market? There can be two price pressures-- market size as well as the demand. Caviar is rare, but not the entire population wants it. Either or both factors increase price.

Wow this is new's to me:confused:....I never knew Chevy even made a Truck!!
.

After some extensive research, it appears they do.

The face of the american road is changing. Pickups and Suburbans will be few and far between. My brother lives in new zealand. Its $8/gallon over there. He says he rarely sees pickups. Everyone just tows small trailors with thier small cars.

Was that before he took those hits off the crack pipe?????

Nope, after.... right in between that claim and his claim to "know a guy" who had a car in the 70's that came with a carburator that got 50mpg. The government got a hold of it and took it and the intake away from him.:D

There is already an excess of trucks on the market.

From what I read these factories are not closing they are just not producing trucks anymore and they will be producing cars. It shouldn't take long to make the changes necessary.

Most of them are going to be closing. Like the one in Jainsville WI that is supposed to be the oldest...

Weren't these same manufacturers saying that they won't build small fuel efficient cars because no one will buy them? So much for marketing analysis.....
