The 2013s!!! What's stopping you from buying?

Fuel Costs
Shipping Costs - Unbelievable at times right now.
Taxes - Up, Up, Up (import tax, export tax, income tax, sales tax...)
But when I try and pass these costs along to the consumer, they freak out and won't pay

I feel your pain, I was an owner operator until i sold my truck to go "play" in the sand.

At the rates my friends are getting right now, i wouldnt have even started my truck, and i damn sure aint buying another rig and wagon until it gets alot better agian

Fuel Costs - try spending around $50,000 a year just for fuel, at 6 MPG if your lucky
Shipping Costs - my break even point 2 years ago was $1.42 per mile, on a 500 mile trip, different wagons change that number, as does a newer than 12 year old truck
Taxes - Up, Up, Up (import tax, export tax, income tax, sales tax...)
But when I try and pass these costs along to the consumer, they freak out and won't pay- try getting alittle more from a shipper to actually see your 6% annual ROI - add in HVUT, all the different states you have to apportion for, every scalemaster that "needs" his piece for the DOT, every local cop who see's you as a mobile ATM, crazy fines for dumb stuff....like running the engine for heat/a/c and getting a tcket for it (anti idleing laws), parking tickets when there is no where else you can get to to legally get to to park

I'm pretty sure there are more ways to pay for a sled then the three narrow minded ones you posted, but my business account works well for me.

I'm on a 2011 FreeRide with no problems but the ones I've caused.

Not narrow minded, just a few examples. There is no need to start criticizing and potentially taken a thread and turning into something negative. Save that crap for SRM and the Fouled Plug.

IMO, half the price of a decent new car, for a sled, that according to most, is wore out after 10 months is pretty silly.

The fact that I have been out of work for 7-8 months is keeping me from buying a new sled. Once the economy recovers enough so that I can get back to work, the hole those 7 months have caused in my financial situation will keep me from buying on for quite some time after.

Let’s face it; as long as the cost of raw materials and cost of producing products in this country is increasing, the cost of said product will also need to rise to cover those costs.

The real issues is the wages that people are making is not rising at the same rate and in some cases are going down. If everyone’s wages were going up at the same rate as everything else we would not be having this conversation. But that never seems to happen. As the saying goes you have to pay to play and these days it looks like we will be spending a little more for that privilege

MSRP's in Canada are higher than in the US. I haven't bought a new sled in years for alot of reasons, lack of time and other unavoidable commitments are a part of it but the main reason is cost. I used to average 2400 -2500 miles a year, now I'm down to about 500 (maybe) I cannot justify $15000 for a half a dozen rides a year. I have ridden polaris forever but I don't consider myself mindlessly brand loyal, a great dealer and overall the best product has kept me on polaris. Keyword "overall". Polaris has cranked out some absolute turds that there is no excuse for. I have been following peoples opinions of the new pro chassie and it sounds great. Love the belt drive, but I need to choose my own gearing ratios. The 800 engine is not reliable and I would not buy a sled with this 800 in it, so at best I'm looking at 2015. IF polaris releases a new engine for 2014 I would not buy it until it has at least a year on the snow, so 2015. I have been bent over and ****** by polaris before, never again. Is there any chance polaris will ever use carbs again in the future? or have the lawyers turned carbs into history? It's good to see polaris on top in the mountain segment again (for now) lose that engine boys and IMHO you'll get your sales back.

lots of low milage 12s just like the 11 I bought last summer! over 3000.00 less for a sled with 115 miles on it. Add turbo and call it good for just a bit more than a new stocker.

Same thing as my 09. You get none of the new stuff.

Nothing stops me if it what I want, but I don't see me buying a '13 since I have an '11 and a '12. Usually try to keep them for a little while to average out overall costs.

Ralph, sleds are no different than alot of other things. Look at the difference in costs with an 08 diesel vs today, they never get cheaper.

Himark, as far as cheaper msrp's I won't hold my breath, I think that you are dreaming about them going down in price.

unpredictable economy, fuel costs, travel expenses (30 hours to the mountain west, 8-10 to northern ontario), cost of sleds, permits, insurance, shorter seasons, less areas to ride, too many people in riding areas ect....

plus, it will take one hell of a sled to get me to leave my well sorted M8 sno-pro, to start over on another platform. which leads me to the last reason, cost of mods, and upgrades needed/wanted for the new unit.

Kind of the problem I am facing... Do I dump close to $2k into my '12 Pro (RK Tek drop-in kit, airframes and HPS can) or buy a new M800??

Thats my dilema. The last two 800s I have owned have had engine issues (07 800R and '12 Pro 800)....

With no snow around here there are '12 Pros sitting in dealerships for less than I want to sell mine for and add in the price to go to a '13 and well, it looks like I'll be fixing the motor that Polaris should have....

Great sled, but I'd really like a sled I can depend on for the next 3-4 years...

Its New!! It has a warranty.

You get all the new 2012 stuff except the E-Tec engine.

Your 09 does not have the new skid geometry and shocks for $100. For the average rider to upgrade front end and skid is around $1000

I too have built sleds I love. (I did an 08 and a 10 XP) like your 09 (minus belt drive and hair drier).....but new for $8999 is incredible.

I just looked at the new 2013 Arctic Cat 1100 HCR Pro Climb.... $15,200 out of the BOX.... good GOD. I don't care if it produces 171 HP, that's some serious coin. That's partially why I was so attracted to the Mountain Horse. Not only is the thing a kick in the pants to ride, I get to drop the track and ride it all summer and fall.

FINALLY! One toy that supports me year round. Great value.

This is the same thinking that made me pull the trigger an on '07 Turbo Apex. I paid $7750 for a sled that is perfectly dialed with 1400 miles on it and will (probably)out last me. It runs on pump gas and it runs like STINK:rockon:I know everybody thinks the Pro RMK is the shizznit, but I didnt like it any better than my well set up '08 XP..........actually, I like it less. So, when I started thinking early this season that it was time for something new, I just couldnt see spending the dough for a new sled. I knew I wanted Turbo and the cost and reliability of a new two stroke turbo(Etec or Pro) is simply too much $$$ and I want to smile for more than 2-3000 miles(without springing for a new motor). So that is the long and short of how a GINORMOUS MONSTER YAMAHA ended up in my garage:usa2:

Because my 2004 440 chassis with the factory 136 hill-x skid is the still the best chassis ever made. I prefer the instant throttle snap of a high compression race gas motor to pull the trigger and wait for it boost all day long :)

That's another reason I drive an 03 F250. I get just as much power (yes, the truck is modded too) better mileage and I don't have to add a quart of piss to the fuel in order to make it run. I don't have any emission BS holding me back. And yeah, I ripped around the MC Lot draggin my trailer behind me while an 2012 F350 and a 2012 Dodge were stuck. Wish I had the GoPro on at that moment. It was quite funny.

From what I understand you don't get the flex track, flex skid and you have the same body that we have had since 08. And My 09 has lotsa stuff to make it work as good or better than the 13s. I spent countless hours on the Net and ebay getting good deals, I called HRP and got a 2012 take off front end for $100. I may not have the flex skid but I'm not sold on that idea yet. But I did spend countless hours measuring and re-measuring to locate my skid pieces to match as closely as possible to the 2012 as I could get.

My point being, I think 14k is too high. It really wasn't that long ago that each 100cc cost you a grand.

You don't wait very long on mine. Rick at Peak Powersports builds the best damn turbo kit out there for the carbbed XP

To answer the original question, there are a couple factors. One is price. As much as I love to ride, I will not pay $13k for a sled I ride 5 or maybe 10 days a season. Two, is that fact that I have my eyes on the new Ducati Streetfighter 848! I will pay $13k for something that can ride daily for 6 months/year. Not to mention the bike will last much longer!! Just saying!
