Tampico / Ahtanum Snow Report 2011-2012:Part 2

Quick, thanks to Snodawg and Summ8rmk for letting me tag along last night; was a great time, except for the lack of grooming (repeat, repeat, etc). Snow was great, Snodawgs cool helmet light is awesome, summ8rmk was performing spectacularly, Mike (he needs a cool SWforum name) enjoyed his new ride and the same number came down as went up.

01/20/12 1200 Quick Update:

SnoPark 20F, probably 5-6" new last night, probably 12-15" total now at the sno-park.
Green Lake 32.7F, 57" total snow depth.

The main (paved) North Fork Rd. is plowed to the work center (narrow in places), the loop through both parking lots were plowed as of last night. The upper (new) lot was supposedly plowed last night, hopefully the lower (old) lot will be done by tomorrow. REMEMBER THE ONE WAY SYSTEM, LEFT AFTER THE BRIDGE TO THE OLD SNO-PARK, UP TO THE NEW SNO-PARK THEN DOWN BEHIND THE WORK CENTER BACK ON TO THE MAIN ROAD.

North Fork DNR road is decent up to Snow Cabin, mogully from there up. Multiple roosts across road:face-icon-small-ton.

Multiple reports of Middle Fork indicate mass carnage, probably from people with better jobs than what I currently have:face-icon-small-coo; lots of people up today and yesterday-just not me:face-icon-small-sad!

Guess What? Are you sitting down?
:mad:Grooming has STILL NOT started and berms are not up:mad:. The last I heard was this afternoon from the contracted groomer operator (version 5.0). The groomer was not in the staging area as of this morning. I have relayed my concerns to Washington State Parks via message (they are off today due to weather). As of last night, most of the other Yakima County areas have started grooming; exception being Rock Creek and Bethel ridge. Everywhere else has had at least one pass according to the contracted groomer on White and Chinook Pass(s).

Due to my having to take the chair (hopefully on a short term basis), the Ahtanum position may be open on the Yakima County Grooming Council. Please let me know if anyone is interested for this really fun job. Really....

Remember the Ski-Benders SnowFest on Little Naches this Sunday morning. A great family event with groomed trails. I will be there working, BSing and generally just being a nice guy. Really....

Grooming has started...Really....

The groomer started operation mid-day today.

Current 01/20/12 snopark weather conditions are 19F and snowing (perfect powder flakes, I must add).

The lower snopark was plowed last night and looks good; with the new roads, the plow has smoothed over the bar ditch, especially going up and into the lower (old) sno-park; don't get sucked in. Parking looked good considering all the snow we have had. Also, he can't plow every minute of the day; when we get these constant dumps it is hard to keep up.

With the snow conditions, I don't know how far the groomer will get or which routes he is doing. Berms are up on Middle and North Forks and Red Saddle. These are now closed to Wheeled vehicles, including side-by-sides and quads. Hopefully JackAss will have a berm shortly.

Should be a great day tomorrow!

WTF still no grooming today, It looks like he made it about a quarter mile up the middle fork this afternoon and then stopped. I suppose that POS broke down, this happens every f&%#ing year. I am not sure why they even pay this idiot. This is probably the most used trail system in eastern WA and by far the worst for grooming.:face-icon-small-fro Any other job that was done this bad the person would be fired, but yet this jackwagon gets his money and sits on his azz and probably just laughs. I think its time to find someone that will do the job right and on a schedule.:yell: alright rant over I'm done complaining, it's useless anyway but it does make me feel better:D

Send me your Groomer Progress Reports!

Please PM me with accurate descriptions of what is/is not groomed, along with posting on this thread! Put the date and time that you were there and what was done; even the areas where you saw no grooming! I will then have more information concerning activities/incorrect contractor statements that may lead to potential lack of fulfilling contracted actions. There is also a site on the State Parks website where you can complain (doing this helps immensely).

I am busy this weekend with the Ski-Bender SnowFest up little Naches; I am also out on job activities most of next week. I still have to do my real job along with my snowmobiling duties (most of which are much more gratifying than this particular one).

I need accurate statements from as many people as possible.

Remember that State Parks has the real power in this, I only serve on an advisory position. As you are all aware, the current contracted groomer has had a multitude of problems getting going along with performance over the last couple of years.

Thank you,

Tampico

Hey tamp sent you a pm, still no grooming as of 3:30 yesterday on the middle fork.:face-icon-small-fro hopefully somebody with some authority can light a fire under the groomers a$$, it is getting just plain rediculous now. On a good note the snow up high is just plain awsome, we were in snow that had not been ridden yet since this storm and was deep deep. The forcast shows possible snow all week. Also kudos to whoever is plowing the lots, good job.:face-icon-small-win It would not be fun to try and park in a foot or more of snow.

I agree with snowjunky. Middle fork was a joke. We brought some friends up to the area for the first time and they couldn't believe how bad the grooming was up there. They loved the area but I don't know if I could drag them back up there. If they could groom the trails half as well as they plow the lots we'd be golden. Thanks for all you do tampico

North fork was not groomed either. by the way, look out for a speeding school bus on the way to the snow park. thanks to the white chevy that pulled me out of the ditch :)

north fork was groomed.... first ones on it today not sure about middle fork but saw the groomer in parking lot tonight .......

How's the snow up there? You guys get hit with any freezing rain the other day? Looking to ride Friday & Saturday.

just rain around 3:00 then turning to snow .......then back to rain on the way down to parking lot ...looks like snow came down last night
