Switchback morph

as sharpe as SW is...id say he is propably right on that statement about the torque arm location...moving the rear torque arm back wouldnt be a big deal as long as you are SPOT on with your measuring and drilling...

Well, I still probably don't have time to get into that tomorrow, but it's got my interest. I'll take a good look at the skid and see what it would involve.

Here's all you have to do. Call Timbersled, order a mountain tamer rear suspension and sell your old one on ebay.

Is that an offer for a low interest loan? lol Yes yes and some Exit shocks and a turbo kit please

Hmmm, let me see if I sell some of these expensive puppies first. Oh and I would have to give Guido a loan first or he will punch me in the face.:face-icon-small-sho

Someone should punch mr guido in the face if he doesnt get some track on snow soon, sup with that Sean... hows your 14 sled builds going lol

I Already threatened him two days ago. Getting ready to empty out my trailer and go get his sleds. I have exactly three open spots to fill.:face-icon-small-ton

HAHAHA...

i never said i was gonna ride my sleds...they are for show purposes only...and by shows i mean to be hidden in the garage so i cant wreck them...

i cant hear you cause my 166 track takes up so much room ;)

lol Sean as long as you have one of them running by the Revy trip I wont judge you. I will however be filming you in hd all day waiting for your moments of shame

revys is pushing it a little close to having the sleds done, lol...

you guys better bring LOTS of extra batteries and memory cards....i never said i was a good rider, just know how to fix the damages ;)

ive been eying the Go Pros too....maybe taxes i can swing one...

Dan, I wish I could help you in the suspension setup department, but I run a Holz coil-over. IMHO, my sled gets up on top of the powder awesome. The Holz was with out a doubt, the best mod I made to my sled. A recent trip to Revy in about 2 1/2 feet of powder reinforced that. Other than my buddy's PGTM8, the other M8(a pgt that had setup issues) and XP didn't stand a chance against my 9. I'm really looking forward to riding with you. We're planning a ride around the 13th or 14th of Jan. probably in Blue River.

Haven't rode the Holz rear but I will say the same about the Timbersled. It is the best thing I ever did. The sled gets up on the snow better and rides so much smoother. It isn't affected when you cross someone else's tracks going up a hill.
In fact it is so good that if I was to buy a newer sled I would swap in out the rear skid before I even took it to the hill.:face-icon-small-coo

Well when it's in my budget I'll check it out... if the sled runs reliably I might be able to spring for it later this season, but I also want a longer track.
For now, I'll work with what I got.
Ken we are headed to Vale this week, so we'll see what I have left for $$$ left next week... I could possibly meet up with you that weekend

That would be the perfect time to do a swap. Do the mod he told you about for now and when you do the track swap out the suspension. You can get the longer rails with the Holz or Timbersled to match your new track. Get some Avid drivers when you do your track swap if you don't have them already.

Well I'm back from an awesome trip to Valemount BC, lots of deep and steep. Before I left I backed off the preload on my 225lb track spring to almost nothing after the limiter straps had been set to the middle position. I also softened up the clickers on my skid shocks..... very good results, it's climbing up on top of the snow like it should. I am happy now.

I did have a small problem at the end of day 1... flat spotted a roller. I have to give a huge thanks to the boys at Alpine Country Rentals for getting me going by 9am for day 2!! Mark you rock, and thanks for the awesome help.
Otherwise my Switch9 ran flawlessly:face-icon-small-coo

One thing I see that may help, since she's extended to 151, you could move RTA back, that upper tunnel bracket (with two holes) is punched to accept 144 front hole, 151+ back hole, now if (and only if) you could get accurate measurements to drill out rails to move bottom RTA shaft back and torsion spring clip, this might help it float out a bit better. Maybe call IceAge mfg.? They've been quite helpful with me in the past.

Ok a little discussion on this mod.
Before i get into the how, I would like to understand the why. What are the results of moving the RTA back to match the rear hole on the drop brackets? Seems like it would provide more suspension support to the rear of the skid, reducing weight transfer. Is this correct? Anything else to ponder on this.

Now the how:
If I measure the distance on the drop bracket from the front hole (currently in use) to the rear hole... and move points B,C,and D rearward on the rails to match.... that should be all that's involved I think. Anything I'm not seeing?
RTArelocate.jpg

Also: My lower RTA scissor mount has been relocated rearward 5/8" on the skid for a while now (Fastrax recommended mod?). I think this mod has some merit, it added "feel" to the travel at the top of the stroke, where it felt dead, and non-dampened before. Should I use this relocated position with the complete RTA relocation? or go back to the stock holes for my measuring points?

The pic is an old pic from when I installed the extensions and track. This RTA relocation is obviously quickly reversible, and free so I'm hoping to try it very soon. Just looking for more input and opinions.

Dan, I just ran out quick and laid a caliper against my stock 144 rails & my 153 Iceage rails, if using these as a template, relocating holes on your rails will not work and here's why. On upper bracket the holes are approx. 2.6" apart, it does look like the rear part of suspension is moved back equally(but I wouldn't bet my paycheck on it, as I was just holding caliper close to holes), but where the torsion spring would have to go, PT B, you'll run out of rail to place hole, at PT C, it looks like it's been slotted where the lower shock mount would go, lastly, the rubber bump stops need to go back also, so you would have to mill out some rail. Lower RTA would be no problem but it doesn't matter at this point. So basically if budget & time is an issue, just run with what you got! There's really nothing wrong with your suspension other than the bit of trenching, leave her for a summer project?!
