Switchback morph

Thanks guys, I'm pretty happy about the way it looks. Hopefully I get a problem free year... I'm worked hard to get all the known issues taken care of.
Here's a fresh pic from today after some waxing and polishing... I am officially done other than my clutch.

Very nice job, Dan. She looks great. Now you have two old belly pans to get rid of. I'm still trying to get motivated and pull my engine out just to change worn steering linkage. What a P.I.T.A.

Bought some more goodies today.... 1115 belt for spare, A 509 helmet, couple fresh pair of lenses for my smith fan goggles, and a hot-pot!
If we don't start getting snow I'll be cooking smokies in the garage just to run the sled.:face-icon-small-win

Here's how I have my VES hoses plugged this year, free to balance pressure between the valves if that was ever nec. I also drilled out the existing pressure feed holes in the valve bodies to 3/32" as per the tip that recently surfaced in the 900 subforum. I have another set of bodies modded as per the instructions for seals but won't get them in til I can find seals. For now I will try non-sealed valves with the extra signal.
For those of you who have tried muffpots on the 900's.... do you think this location is going to be hot enough without removing pipe insulation?

Looking good Dan, I like the helmet but its not my colors. Keep up the good work and have fun with the testing, its good to have a few people open to pushing the envelope, every little bit helps!

Also want to commend you for pretty much setting the standard(as far as I have seen) on the 900 switchback converion w/ damn good info to go with it!

Thanks, I should have just bought an RMK to start with but, here I am. I do like having the different Switchback blue out in the mountains....a little less common.

Still waiting for my clutch to come back from balancing, looks like I will be missing the first mountain trip of the year because of it... booooo! I'm hoping to have it back sometime this week, then I can do some local test riding. I'll be sure to bring the helmet cam.

Picked up some early xmas presents for myself yesterday:
509 Aviators to go with my Evolution helmet
New pair of CastleX gloves
Ortovox beacon
Polaris riser bag (going to try and fit it over the rubber bar shroud)
Axle assembly for my 1 place sled trailer

Well my clutch should finally arrive tomorrow! Can't wait to go for a test and tune ride!

Since the taper was machined, I have some runout checks to do, thanks to Indydan for some advice on double checking the repair. Other than that... circulate the coolant, tension and align the track and I should be good to go!

Just got back from my first mountain trip of the year, no major problems but I am a little less than impressed. The conditions were patchy and overcast skies along with some snow made it tough to really play around too much, had to be cautious.
Day one she ran great, pulling great rpm, no problems.
Day 2 it started misfiring on one cylinder at lower rpm and idle, but as soon as at full throttle it seemed fine. It's a very inconsistent miss, always reacting a little differently but it's there most of the time at low rpm and idle, and it always works out of it at high rpm and WOT. I didn't have spare plugs so I lived with it. Nice mocha color on both plugs.
I'll chuck some new plugs in it and see if that cures the misfire, otherwise it's time to start testing ignition components and wiring.

Anyways... the rest of the sled:
Played with suspension for a while, and found that limiter strap at the shortest setting ended up giving me the best climbing results.
I broke my Pro-Design tether clip, had to disconnect it.
I caught a stump on day one on the access trail, must have shifted a control arm, because I had to make a trail-side adjustment to re-center the handlebars, can't see any visual damage to suspension. Time for some Zbros arms?
I rode with 2 XP's (one of them an 880 174"), Some M8's, a D&D M1200, and a new Etec XP. Those new Etecs just plain work! Also got some good owner feedback on the ProRMK's from guys coming off all brands of machines, sounds very promising.

I tested coils, and mag... all good, so I started digging around. I found a damaged reed on the PTO side, so I replaced the offending reed and installed new plugs. Took it for a test ride and at first it ran perfect, but started getting the low rpm hesitation / mis-fire again after an hour or so.... grrr.
Also my left upper ball joint popped apart on the trail. I'll have to dig into it again tomorrow, this little stuff is getting annoying.

When I installed the new suspension on mine this year I noticed my lower ball joints were very lose. This is probably something we should be looking at closely in our preseason tasks.

Looking for some opinions and advice on my suspension. I'm trying to get a good deep snow setup going on my 900 Switch, it's working well, but I feel like it should climb better. I'm hoping one of you can spot something I'm doing wrong, or suggest some things to try.

Here's my basic setup:
151 x 2.4 Series IV on extended 144 rails
5/8" rear scissor relocation
359/47 torsion springs (on low setting)
225lb shock spring (1/4" preload)
Stock ski springs (1/2" preload)
Sway bar in
all Fox Zero Pro's
Grippers with flat bars

I weigh about 220 dressed to ride, the skid feels stiff but I'm using every inch of the torsions.
Ive tried the limiter strap in all 3 positions, can't say any of them yielded better climbs. Middle position handles best anywhere else.
It's a trench monster, doesn't fell like its getting on top at all. Momentum recovery from airtime or wheelies while climbing or sidehilling is bad, maybe I'm expecting too much from this track. What do you guys think?

One thing I see that may help, since she's extended to 151, you could move RTA back, that upper tunnel bracket (with two holes) is punched to accept 144 front hole, 151+ back hole, now if (and only if) you could get accurate measurements to drill out rails to move bottom RTA shaft back and torsion spring clip, this might help it float out a bit better. Maybe call IceAge mfg.? They've been quite helpful with me in the past.

Sounds complicated, thanks SW, I'll add that to my list
