Socialism 101

Actually, I know little bit about Communism and Socialism. Directly from people that once lived there.

Socialism is where the country is headed. Communism is what we will become, when we only have one party that controls everything. (Wait, isn't that what the "new world order" is all about???)

Socialism isn't all that bad, if you have the right mindset. If you enjoy going to college, and getting a higher degree, then having the government assign you a job at some "research institute". Where you basically don't have to show up very often. Can just come up with your own experiments. And, spend most of your time reverse engineering capitalist countries products. You would love it.

Well, except for the life part. Substandard housing for everyone. (Since the alcoholic and the doctor make the same pay every month.) Bread lines, shortages of everything, and substandard goods. (short of the firing squad method, there's really no incentive for quality) Massive depression and subsequent drinking. And every service, you should be receiving for free. Well, you can wait for the plumber, for months, or you can slip him a bottle of vodka. (vodka, the currency of communism) Then you magically get service. Or, if you want the government doctor to prescribe you the "real" pills, a couple more bottles. And, if you need a car, hey a couple more bottles to the right people will get you a signature. And, then a car, maybe. Then there's the meetings, where you are constantly reminded how a good communist should act. By officials, who are pocketing money and goods. And, if you object, it is so noted, and you disappear. Or, if you have a nice apartment, and you neighbor wants it, he reports you, and you disappear. Yep, sounds great to me.

Nothing like living a life where your every action is designed by the government, to keep you busy so you don't think about your hardship. And, you know that your maps, history, and your happiness, are all lies. And, your life is less than worthless to those that control it.

Seriously? Yah, it happened. You know when you were in school, the only reason anyone did anything was for a grade. None of the students actually cared or were interested in the material. None liked the subject at all. All the students were only there for one thing, to get a grade.

I guess that is like the real world. We don't do anything, if we don't get a dollar for it.

Oh, how easy it is to break down the argument.

Question for people...

If there was no money, nor any financial incentive would people stop striving to better themselves? All these arguments seem to think that people would just become sloths and do nothing if money was not around.

I build, I create, I learn, I imagine, I prosper, and money as an incentive has little to do with it.

Another question for the people...

If you did not need a paycheck to survive, would you still do the job you are doing? Is money the only reason you are working? What else would you be doing with your life?I probably would, but I would be a dozer operator opening up roads in the spring. :D

1. Ask the people of the former USSR how that worked out.
2.You would end up a welfare recipeient. I don't see much dozing happening any time soon down in WA

dangit ollie, you are getting me on tangents!!! lol

So back to the main point. I am trying to argue that it doesn't depend on the type of government only as to mans ability to aspire to be more to do more. The outcome of ones life will be different, yes, but people will always invent, always create, always improve themselves and their lives in many different ways, outside of any government / economic structure. That is what makes us who we are, we adapt, or change the world so we don't have to.

I AM NOT saying that socialism is great, just not saying that it is "evil" either.

No one said it was "evil".
Just that it doesn't work, suppresses creativety and stifles society as a whole.
In a socialist society if you are better off than someone else it is viewed as "evil" by the ruling elite (which are ALWAYS better off than anyone else).
If you do manage to improve your lot in life under a socialistic society it is in spite of government, not because of it.

Well....there was my Wed AM read. One question: how old are you Ruffy? Gotta say, your time on this planet hasn't taught you anything important yet.

so what do you have to say about websters? ha ha... what a spaz...

wiki was for some little history and had a good list of which dictionaries say what about.

So you saying wiki has no information at all? There was no quote, do you know what a quote is?

Quote example.. "Priceless" or Again, not priceless. You are worth exactly what I paid for you! :p
Ok, I have heard a very few people somewhat defend you by saying things like..."You have to admire him for his convictions" or some such horse chit because even thought they disagree with your message they are giving you kudos for not backing down.
I have met you (once) and I thought you were a decent enough person at the time but I was way wrong.
My mind has changed completely about you now not that you would care at all.
You, are a total peice of chit.
To compare socialism to a man serving his country was way out of line.
I think I'd slap the piss out of you if I ran into you on the hill and I don't say that lightly.
I've also lost a lot of family in two wars.
One against communism and one against your beloved socialism.

LEAVE AZZHOLE.

No one will miss you.

He's reading books through glazed over blood shot eyes. Book smarts only get you so far in the real word. He sure is a bull**** artist with a scewed view on everything! :beer;

I say it is evil! Any form of government that suppresses people is EVIL! Any form of government that takes from a hard earned man and gives to a lazy piece of chit (i.e. inner city piece of chit thugs) is EVIL!!!! A racist president that believes that minorities of this country deserve just as much as everyone else simply because of their race is EVIL!!!! And you cannot deny the truth of that! Those are straight from Mr. Obama's mouth! Read his POS book! I got nauseated when I read it! I wanted to vomit!

We have always taken care of our own without the help of the government! Yes, good people that have fallen on bad times need a hand at times. Americans have always risen to that without the mandating of government. Welfare has become a huge parasite on this nation! We are going to destroy ourselves from within...kind of like a black hole in the middle of the country...it will suck everything until it is gone!

I am tired of the political correctness in this country. I don't give a rat's a$$ who I offend anymore! Millions of people have died to preserve this country's freedoms! Not to let the government take them from us! I will be damned if let this country go that route and if it does it will be over my dead body!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am glad to see what most folks on this thread have to say!!!!

Free enterprize is your friend!!!!

I was in the Military and am very proud of it. I will admit that the military is the closest thing that this country has to the military. Adding on to the comments Ollie made. The service is an all volunteer force. Therefore it has to be competitive with the capitalist economy. In a socialist state you’re stuck with what you have, there is no competition.

As for socialism, welcome to the pendulum theory of societal evolution. (I prefer the wheel as an analogy; pendulums never go anywhere whereas (living) cultures are in constant motion. The same point of a wheel always comes around; it's just a little further down the timeline - always similar, never the same. And lessons from the past still influence the present/future.) The country is headed toward socialism, but it will not end up a socialist state. It's just going to continue evolving. Some of us don't/won't like the direction but it can only happen IAW the "Will of the People". When enough of us don't like the direction, it will change. The only issue in doubt is the mechanism.

Mountain-powder-slut you apparently believe the United States is evil then as laws= suppression. Be careful with your words, they’re rather misleading.

Ruffryder, you should heed the advice of Abraham Lincoln, “It’s better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt”

Excuse me? I believe the US is evil? I work in LE and I am also in the military. I do not understand when you say laws (for the most part) are suppressive. They protect others from being suppressed by evil people. I enforce those laws. I can prosper while respecting the law. Yes the government has made many laws that are suppressive that I absolutely do not agree with! (i.e. public lands, welfare, taxes)....and don't put words in my mouth. I love this country. But yes politicians that make evil laws are evil themselves...they are self serving lawmakers. This nation is not evil....the President and our representatives that push a socialistic agenda, take away our land, and take away hard earned money for BS programs are the evil ones!!!!!!!!!!!! That is why we are having this discussion right?

I really fail to see how my words are misleading....socialism and communism are suppressive....you don't agree with that? The foundation of this country and its laws were not suppressive.....as stated, they protected people from being suppressed. I really dont understand your logic here.

Judging by the comments here, and the offense at even talking about it, are you still of the view point that people do not have a strong hate to it?? I say people view it as evil because most can not and are not able to think of it in any other terms than it is bad, it is the end of the world, it goes against all there moral beliefs... aka evil...

Look at the profile... 28. You are correct, nothing at all important. I can't even spell... :(
Oh well, at least there is :beer;

I'm going to chip in $100 bucks to send you back to English class..... Who's with me on that???

Can't you put just a little effort in presenting yourself as somewhat literate??

You hit the nail on the head there....I will never think of it as anything other than evil....I guess I have always had a strong sense of right and wrong. It was something I was born with....hence why I decided on the career path I did. ...and it isn't that I can't think of it as anything other than bad....I refuse!

You all need to take a debate class or something. Insulting your opponent and "LMFAO" at his every comment is juvenile at best. Refute his arguments with (reputable) sources, not something you heard.

Anyone can say they heard something somewhere, unless you can say exactly where, and provide proof, it's not really a valid argument, even though it really did happen. You wouldn't take Ruffy's word that he heard something somewhere, would you? Why should he take yours?

Don't take immediate offense at something you don't like. Nuance is very hard to convey over a forum, don't read something in a statement that isn't actually there. Likewise, don't expect people to be able to see your sarcasm...

At least try to acknowledge that the other side may have a point, even if it differs from your opinion. They are most likely not a complete imbecile, and have obviously given some thought to their position.

Ruffy does have a tendency to use examples that can be offensive, that's on purpose. Look past the shock value of his statements, and there is (usually) a point to what he says.

Keep it civil or stay out of the debate, it's just irritating to those of us actually interested in other people's point of view.

If we did that then the fun would be gone...... This isn't serious enough to give it fair play. The funny part is you trying to take this serious... wrong forum for that....

Keep going Ruffy....Entertainment at it's finest...
