Actually, I know little bit about Communism and Socialism. Directly from people that once lived there.
Socialism is where the country is headed. Communism is what we will become, when we only have one party that controls everything. (Wait, isn't that what the "new world order" is all about???)
Socialism isn't all that bad, if you have the right mindset. If you enjoy going to college, and getting a higher degree, then having the government assign you a job at some "research institute". Where you basically don't have to show up very often. Can just come up with your own experiments. And, spend most of your time reverse engineering capitalist countries products. You would love it.
Well, except for the life part. Substandard housing for everyone. (Since the alcoholic and the doctor make the same pay every month.) Bread lines, shortages of everything, and substandard goods. (short of the firing squad method, there's really no incentive for quality) Massive depression and subsequent drinking. And every service, you should be receiving for free. Well, you can wait for the plumber, for months, or you can slip him a bottle of vodka. (vodka, the currency of communism) Then you magically get service. Or, if you want the government doctor to prescribe you the "real" pills, a couple more bottles. And, if you need a car, hey a couple more bottles to the right people will get you a signature. And, then a car, maybe. Then there's the meetings, where you are constantly reminded how a good communist should act. By officials, who are pocketing money and goods. And, if you object, it is so noted, and you disappear. Or, if you have a nice apartment, and you neighbor wants it, he reports you, and you disappear. Yep, sounds great to me.
Nothing like living a life where your every action is designed by the government, to keep you busy so you don't think about your hardship. And, you know that your maps, history, and your happiness, are all lies. And, your life is less than worthless to those that control it.
