So my truck caught on fire.

Didn't the install company install fuse blocks. Every component should have a seperate fuse. A main at the battery and then at the equipment. Main will take care of wiring shorts and equipment fuse will cover the equipment. To bad, nice looking truck. Smell will not go away.

Yes they did install fuse blocks actually. My first thought was a bad installation but the wiring to and from the amp is fine. It looks like the something fried from within the amp and the internal fuses in the amp didn't blow.

And those are 37's! haha!

That just plain sucks, man. I've been thinking about this all morning. NOT fun. I'm surprised the insurance company isn't trying to deny the claim due to aftermarket parts or some other garbage.

Sorry to see that happen Josh. I guess the one bright spot would be that it happened after show season instead of while you were rolling down the highway with a bunch of merchandise in a trailer.

Nice truck.

That rig is HOT man.

hehe.

THAT REALLY SUCKS Josh.!!!!!!!! WOW. I can't imagine the look on your face when you opened the door. HOLY COW!!!!!!!! Like a bad episode of punk'd.

Usually a smokin dodge is a GOOD thing, but not so good for you. Sick ride, and good luck with the repairs. I have my doubts with the smell leaving for good...i think ill look over my amp tomorrow...lol

UPDATE on the lack of updates...

It's pretty much complete BS at this point. Rockford Fosgates insurance companies investigation "expert" keeps postponing the investigation to prove fault for the fire. It was supposed to originally be on Nov. 24 but it is currently pushed back to december 19th. The stupid thing is that the fire happened Nov. 1st and wanted me to wait three weeks for the original investigation. So now december 19th is a full 6 weeks of waiting! My insurance company won't let it be worked on until after the investigation because they don't want to lose the segregation case against Rockford and have the $17-$20K bill come out of their pocket.

I have spent hours on the phone and email with Rockford, their insurance company which is Travelers, and also my insurance company American Family. I know i am getting the runaround from Rockford and Travelers but I don't exactly feel like my insurance company has my best interest in mind either. the only person that has been cool about the whole thing is my insurance companies field adjustor and his hands are tied at this point.

Even if everything goes perfectly well on Dec. 19th with the investigation, I still won't be driving my truck until mid january. I told Travelers I fully intend to sue them for bad faith when/if Rockford is found at fault for this. There is absolutely NO REASON I should have to wait 6 weeks for their "expert" to show up and look at the truck. The lady at Travelers didn't act like she could care less about it. I emailed Rockford Fosgate and told them they lost a customer of 15 years over the way they handled this and didn't get a reply. I sent that email November 24th.

So my advice is NEVER buy anything from Rockford Fosgate. As you could see from my original post I was happy to give them the benefit of the doubt IF they took care of things. They haven't even been officially proven at fault yet and this is how they handle it! Also, I hope none of you ever are involved in a claim against someone who is insured with Travelers. It looks like they are cool with COMPLETELY screwing people.

That is insane that you posted that. I just got off the phone with someone that I was asking if I should do that!
I was just worried of somehow making things worse!

So does your username have anything to do with Rockford Fosgate?

Is insurance paying rental for a replacement truck while everyone is sitting around with their thumbs stuck up their rectums?

Man, I'd be livid...

I find it funny how you and your insurance company are letting an outside party (R. Fosgate) dictate when your truck's repairs will begin. I'm assuming you have full coverage with AmFam, that's what it's for. Keep thinking that your insurance company is on your side. LOL:confused: Talk about acting in bad faith.
That's like waiting for the guy who hits your truck WITHOUT insurance telling you to wait to get it fixed when he has the money saved , then telling you where to take it. If AMFAM wants to hire their own expert, fine, then let them go after R.Fosgate after they pay to fix it first. Let me guess, you took it to THEIR preferred shop, too.

My suggestion to you is read your policy again, unless AMFAM has chosen to fix it themselves, you take it to your shop, they fix it and they pay. Then get a real insurance company.

Brings a new meaning to the term, "Smokin Dodge"

OR,

"Heated Seats"

BTW, I have negotiated lots of deals with owners that do not want the vehicle. Before authorizing ANY repairs get a SOLID estimate to do the repairs. Work that estimate up from there, ie..both airbags need replaced and module that will ding it another 1800 bux. Anyway you get the idea. Then once you KNOW a pretty good "inflated figure" Take and call your local dealers, salvage buyers, and ask them for a "buy bid" with clean title. Since shes not totalled. Then make a educated decision.

**all else fails, and you end up repairing. Just keep denying the repair. Find faults with fit quality and lastley smell. The insurance company will then "total it" and send it to a salvage pool. keep in mind they only owe you what "they" think is fair and it may not be what you want.

well koolaid I see where you're coming from and those thoughts have crossed my mind too. It's different from a wreck because the cops decide who is at fault on the spot. Typically with these kinds of fires it is caused by the wiring or installation of the amp. that doesn't appear to be the case. An investigation has to be done to prove who is to be held liable. AmFam says that if they only have their expert conduct the investigation, it would be easy for Travelers to argue in court and AmFam would be stuck holding the bag. They also said if it wasn't a near $20K claim, they would be willing to take that risk and do the investigation on their own. I am no fool and I am apprehensive about the way AmFam is handling this. I even fired my agent over this claim on Friday. That was not fun.

They towed the truck wherever I wanted to have the repairs done.

I did file a complaint with the DOI today. I wish I had known this was an option weeks ago.
