Just a note to anyone coming to the area to ride this weekend: Carbon Power & Light has scheduled a power outage Saturday Dec. 22 from 7 a.m till 11 a.m. This will affect all rural areas (Centennial, Albany, Woodslanding, etc). We are trying to get our generator up and running so we can still serve coffee and keep up some operations, but it is not a big enough generator to run our fuel pumps. Be sure to fuel up Friday night, or in Laramie on your way out here Saturday or you will be unable to get gas (at least not at the Friendly Store) until the power is turned back on.

Friendlystore,
Thanks for keeping us updated, stayed at your place last weekend had a great time, reasonable rates, close to the attractions!

I know I am off topic here but I know a lot of you peeps know this area quite well. I am coming from Walden CO to Albany/Centennial and was wondering about a route from Woods Landing to Albany. Is this doable in the winter? I have come through there in the summer but never winter. Thanks

It can be done and probably most any day. But this road is going to be snow packed and possibly icy. Heavy snow and wind can shut it down. The biggest issue would be meeting a full size 4wd with mega trailer coming in the opposite direction, at the wrong spots. Do ya feel lucky??? :confused:no cell phone signal and the nearest tow truck is 30 miles out. There you have it.

I hope your harley exhaust part is just a metafore, I am a firm believer in that loud pipes save lives but around here they let a lot slide with the harley badge on but come after the rocket croud pretty quick. Besides thats a rocket motor so it should have a nice yosh or micron exhaust to make the pretty music.

Sounds dooable!

Thanks for the info!! I will take your tips into consideration when I get there.

Apparently enough people complained to the power company that they changed the date of the power outage. We will be open at 7 a.m. as usual on Sat. Dec. 22.

Hey Rave quick suggestion you could unload one machine and run it across the road to check it out to see if it is passable then use it as a blocker. We do it with 4 wheelers in the summer when pulling the 5th wheel into one lane roads in the forrest you can stop at the wide spots to let someone thru if you have too. Just a suggestion.

If he's talking about the same road I'm thinking of, it's quite a long road for a quick "recon".....might take a sled 15 or 20 minutes up and back, and if it's marginal, lots of wear on the carbides. A four wheeler would be a better choice!

Hmm.... My mapquest shows a 7.7 mile section from 230 to 11 as FOX CREEK RD / CR-47 (Portions unpaved).

Is this where you guys are thinking?

We are thinking about going to the Snowies on Dec. 26 or 27 and coming back on New Year's Eve probably. I have ridden there once but do not know the area. Would anyone be willing to show us around for a day or two or even the whole trip if you want. We certainly don't mind having another guy riding with us. We would be back in time to do some New Year's Eve partying. LOL :beer;:D

This is the road (maybe closer to 10 mile, but what the heck is 2.3 miles among friends)

This is it! But a 20 minute scouting trip will only save you a little bit of time by going through Harmony (which is no guarantee in real bad weather). Fox Creek is an adventurous road and beautiful. You shouldn't get stuck, but the wrong move and the party is over.

Drive safely regardless.

Looks like you started from Albany...took the Route up to Libby Flats... up to the peaks huh!? Snow looks good, trading Togwotee for Snowy this X-mas. We get to make the trip home!! Laramie/Jackson people here!!! RIDE ON!!!!

Let it snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

It is DUMPING in Saratoga. We have already got a few inches in town and it is coming down hard. I have to leave for the holidays, hope you all enjoy the new white stuff!!!!!

Same for here in Laramie. I'm hoping to beat the road closures and make it to Denver this afternoon. So its off the computer with me and on to the highway

Uh-Oh!

One of the locals took this yesterday afternoon. What a way to ruin the weekend! Hope the sleds are ok. The wind is blowing so be careful out there.
