Ollie did ya see the Iowa boys out there??? theres a big group from back here out there this week I wish i was there!!!

THE Iowa boys?!?
I don't think there were but a half dozen rigs OTHER than from Iowa there.
The parking lot at Albany is usually pretty easy to get a parking spot (one of the things I like about it). Got there at 8:30 and I got the last spot in the lot. Anti-hero had to park down the road. There must have been 30 rigs parked down the road.

snowies report

I was one of those Iowa Boys. Back home now. Had a great time. I parked at Albany and if the FS is going to charge $5 maybe they should make the lot bigger and clean it at night. It looks to me like they have the parking permits in place but no one to enforce it. The trails on the east side were great. Rode most of Friday on smooth trails. I was the first sled down "B" to Wycolo. Good snow everywhere. Rode Albany to B then south on T then south on A to R and to Wycolo to warm up. Back to R north to C back to Q and back to Albany put on 125 miles. We got off and played in meadows along the way. Thursday we found deeper snow on the west side up around N and NO (4 - 5 foot). The snow for us Iowa boys is different. It is a mixture of sleet and dust (Suger and flour). Its almost like riding on water. The suger snow is like little ball bearings. If you slow down you are stuck. Spent most of the afternoon pulling stuck sleds and helping others pull stuck sleds. The major trails were groomed but could have used more. Some trails were never groomed this year like M and X. Still how do you groom suger with no base. The snowies are have awsome senery and riding conditions for everyone. I doubt if I make it back again this year ( $800 for 2 days riding wife stole my Visa card - gas is expensive for that 1400 mile pull) but for those who can you won't be disappointed.

Road to Centennial was scary today. Visibility = 0. Pucker factor = 10. Turned around at Centennial and went back to Laramie. Will try again tomorrow.

You made all the way to centinial and didn't ride?? You were there dude. Should of just unloaded and went on up.

Do not blame you for not riding at all. We did the same thing, drove from Laramie up to Centinial and turned around. Zero visibility on the highway... would have been miserable up top. Not worth getting someone killed! Still had fun getting drunk back in Laramie, try again tomorrow! Think clear skies!!

Whats the point in driving all the way to the snowies for that much trail riding? Damn, I would go insane if we did 30 miles of trail in a day. Its more fun if you guage your ride time by how many tanks of fuel you burned in the trees then how many miles you did on the trail ;)

Yeah would have been a great time. We got on "the train to centennial" also, couldn't see 5 feet in front of you. At greenrock there were guys coming back after 15 mins. Not a good time, some days you just have to call it good. I've never seen it that bad with the road still open.

visibility was horrible! we came up on a couple of abandoned sleds at the bridge on the albany end of rob roy reservoir and they were helping a guy who dropped off the side of the drift that builds up there we built up wind stop and kept him warm until the medics got there, and towed his sled back to albany for him. Hope he ended up OK

NOW, NOW, NOW, if we have all of these people spending all of their time on the trails, it keeps them out of the forest and cubbyholes where all the good riding is. :D

no matter how many people are there, you can always find a meadow that the masses missed, we found 3 of them!

And with all the wind and snow they just got, it should have wiped out all tracks we laid down. So hopefully we won't get any track poachers. Should be a good ride next weekend.

can hardly wait to get there friday for another ride :)

Rode Greenrock Saturday .. getting over the top was a little rough with the cold & wind, complete white out. Once on the back side we found excellent pow with little wind.

Stayed in Centennial, blowing snow all night, gusts maybe .. 50-70 mph ?? Called off Sunday's ride as the conditions were absolutely terrible. Can't remember the last time we didn't at least give an effort to go out .. it was that bad up there (or maybe i'm getting old and cold).

Going up on New Years Day .. should be epic conditions once this front (and the crowds) move out.

I resent that. I will be up on the 3rd, and I will no doubt poach a few tracks! Just Kidding. Anybody going to be up during the 3-7? We will be up in a group of six. Nissan Titan, 07 GMC with Enclosed, sticker on tail 'Six gun Luva" . Look us up we would love to ride with some of ya! We will be running out of Albany.

Couple of Black Mtn Cats no stickers, and a Flame Rev. SHould be easy to see us coming.

We rode dec 27-29 and found good snow (2-3ft) all three days. We tried to ride out of Greenrock on 28th and made it almost to widowmaker and turned around and loaded up and rode out of Albany again. Will get some pics up later. Had a couple mishaps but made it to the truck everyday so it was a good trip.

I drove up yesterday from Cheyenne. It wasn't bad until the last 9 miles into Centennial. I met Beer Gut, his daughter, and Matt & Katie in town. the wind wasn't bad in town, but it was snowing hard. We went up and decided to try the trees. Visibility was very pour, especially on the trail from Green Rock to the Snowy Mountain Lodge. We rode for about 2 1/2 or 3 hrs. The snow was very deep, and that's on the front side. I can not wait to see what it's like on the back side.

I left the Bear Tree about 2:20pm and didn't get into Laramie until about 3:30pm. By far the worst driving conditions I've ever been in. They closed I-80 east bound about 10 minutes ahead of me. I know there were alot of others stuck in Laramie last night also. Hope every one made it back safe.

I never knew there were so many trails, let alone that they had letters. I guess that is more untouched powder for us. Rode friday and saturday with great snow and conditions---Sunday drove from centenial to green rock and turned around and went back to town.
