SnoWesters, before you buy parts from people READ THIS:

So if there is still no resolution, or if there was, I am glad this thread is up again.
And, BTW, anyone who gets a bad reputation (not talking about the rep system.. FFS) from a true intentional RIP OFF should be BLACKBALLED for the future victims.... even if they make it right....

How about some bad credit ratings, so they don't continue to be the same with the banks...;)

Apparently, this hasn't been resolved completely, so the thread has returned until the final solution is determined.

Darrin

I'm very happy to see the admin supporting a true member of this site (Scott). Thank you Darrin for allowing us to have some renewed faith that individuals selling (or buying) on SW will have to be accountable for their actions and the products that they represent (these threads will not just magically disappear so that others can be unsuspecting victims).

Scott - as always, keep us posted. It's too bad that a bad deal like this, happened to a good guy like you.

OK, so now it's time to post a further update.

I have received ALOT of PMs, emails and texts about how this was resolved so in order to not have to retell it over and over I'll just do it here.
AND BTW, We could have left this thread deleted and started a new thread, but then I'd have to explain the first half all over again, which sort of defeats the purpose of taking it down...( I know, it's not gonna make Ryan happy).

I have been upfront and very careful to only post the facts of what we have said to each other. I have not been a name-caller or gotten dirty or lost my temper....

Soooo here goes.

Back on Friday, Aug 7th, I started this thread...a full week after I was told that I was out of luck on how the engine was misrepresented to me. I gave Ryan a LONG week to get back to me and make it right. I only email him two short emails during that quiet week as to the name of the shop that did the work.

It drew quite a bit of interest on the forum and by Sunday morning there were 149 posts to the thread.

On Sunday morning he sent me an email.

This is how he came back to me after the thread has been up for two days:

Scott,

I really wish you would have handled this a bit more professionally rather than the way you did. I am not out to take advantage of anyone nor sell them anything that has been misrepresented. I have been more than willing to try to resolve this from the beginning even before this issue, I offered to split the cost of valves with you as we both neglected to discuss them. But rather than communicating with me (which you never called me to discuss any of this) you go behind my back and try to go through paypal as well as post negative, untrue, slander about me on the internet. If you ask me that doesn't seem very adult like but maybe thats just my take. It also seems strange to me that you would completely disassemble a completely good running motor prior to even installing it. When I pulled it out, it had perfect compression and ran excellent as it should. I have many people who will back that up. But to go further, you even emailed me and said it has new
pistons in it and it has a new head so obviously this motor was apart and worked on like was represented to you. If the dealer screwed me, thats my problem, not yours. I do see there is no wide bearing on it like there is supposed to be and like was paid for. To help resolve this and get you what you paid for, I have found remanufactured cranks with the wide bearing and that have been trued just like what was supposed to be in the motor you bought. I am willing to buy one for you or send you the money on one condition; you remove all negative posts threads ect and post what has transpired between us and how its been taken care of. Again, I'm not out to take advantage of anyone, you don't get anywhere in life doing that. It is my problem with the dealer, not yours and I will take care of it, trust me. Please let me know what you'd like to do and in the future, please be a little better with the communication and give people the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks,
Ryan

I explained to Ryan that I ONLY communicated through email so that it's all written and accounted for. If there was a phone conversation, it's not all documented.

(BTW SLANDER is spoken defamation of character. Libel is written.
I have only used "cut and paste" on the emails you have sent to me so therefore I am sorry to inform you that a person cannot be defamed by his own words.

Ryan, I have sent you 26 emails between JUly 31st and August 10th. I can hardly agree that I have not communicated with you. And how can I owe you the benefit of the doubt when you turned your back on my suggestions so many times on July 31st. Of course I went to PayPal after that. You told me that you wouldn't stand behind your word. )

Scott,

If you would like me to get the crank for you, please let me know within the next day and a half as the ebay listing ends then. Also, I would appreciate it if you would remove the negative posts ASAP as I am not as you have me represented to be and I am trying to get this taken care of. Not fair to me for you to leave that out there when I am here and trying to get this resolved now. Please get back to me and remove the posts.

Thanks
Ryan

At what point here did I owe it to you to remove the posts?

I don't think that my credibility is in question here...so instead of cutting and pasting every single email that we sent back and forth...I'm going to just give a rundown of what transpired. (If you want the cut and paste for something specific, then ask, but here is what happened.)

I received 14 emails from Ryan on Aug 9th and 10th.
And to each I replied. We dialoged.

He did show me a couple of ebay cranks and we did talk dollar amounts and which crank is the proper one that would reflect the crank that I was supposed to have from him.
He wanted to buy one that was cheaper ($300)...and we did discuss why it wasn't right, though he never did understand why.

In each of those emails on Aug 9th and 10th he did request that the thread be taken down because he had offered to settle up on the crank.
Well, given the circumstances I didn't (and still don't) feel that I owed that to him. Instead of trying to clear up the engine issue, he was still worried about his reputation. His sense of entitlement was taking over. EACH email he requested that I remove this thread. WHY? He hadn't paid me any money yet but he wanted his reputation restored.
I posted many times on Aug9th and 10th that he had contacted me and that on the 10th I received an email from PayPal.

I told him that SLP doesn't allow a crank in their door for less than $700, I'd still need to pay shipping, buy pistons, and do machine work on the detonated heads and scratched cyl walls to make this engine like it was advertised.
Eventually, on Aug 10th, he did send me $450 that was the cost of the ebay crank.

I do need to share this quote though...this came in the email from PayPal with the payment.

On Aug 9th and 10th, I posted MANY times in this thread that Ryan had contacted me and I did post when PayPal had sent notice of payment. I didn't perpetuate any negativity during those two days did I? I clearly stated that Ryan was trying to work with me. Go back and start on post #150 to verify that. I make this point because I have been accused of not working with him and being unprofessional about how I handled this.

Anyway, He did show me a couple of ebay cranks and we did talk dollar amounts and which crank is the proper one that would reflect the crank that I was supposed to have from him.

THIS statement by Ryan was attached to the "Payment under review for 24 hours" flag that PayPal put on the payment.
Scott, this is the refund for you to purchase a new remanufactured crank. If you accept the payment, you agree to remove all posts and threads you created or that have been created as a result of your posts and the issue will be closed.

LMFAO. I guess setting conditions here is something that he feels he needs to do. NO, but accepting the money, I can put it toward a crank and YOU are making it right with the crank. Apparently he feels I owe it to his reputation.

BTW, Ryan did renew his offer to split the cost of some used exhaust valves.

Unfortunately, I still have to do all the rest of that work to make the engine run the way it was advertised. And that still sticks in my craw so I just feels good to get it off my chest.

Scott,

I think you are handling this as good as a person can.

I also think that this thread needs to stay on the forums so that other people can search his name. After all this is a problem with what he sold and no matter what it is his fault! If he is worried about his reputation maybe other people that have bought from him can post about any good experiences they have had. But when I buy something I always search out the user name and person's name to be safe and if I found out that a post like this had been deleted and then I got screwed I would be pissed that other people tried to warn me and that warning was removed. Also I notice (unless I missed it) that he has never come on here to defend himself, to me that proves that what you are saying is true and that is not slander!

Good Luck!

He still wants the thread removed totally.
The posts with his parents info and whatnot should be removed.

Scott,

You handle this well. BUT! I think the New York Attorney General and the FBI should be involved. Looks like MANY cases of fraud and this guy will continue to do this to others until the law gets involved. It sounds like you have everything well documented. He will spend plenty of time in CLUB FED for what he is doing. He is no better than Bernie Madoff.

Good luck, don't let this THIEF off the hook!

CADman

I would tell him that once the motor you purchased is finally the way it was described and you THOUGHT you were buying, then and only then will you remove this thread. So he gave you some money for a crank...what about all the other crap that's wrong with it. He's making it right but he's not done yet.
Personally I wouldn't deal with this a-hole anymore and send the motor back and demand your money.
I know get the money 1st and before you send the motor send an email saying if you accept the motor back then you agree to stop screwing people and being an azzhat.

Why cant SW ban this peice of crap for blatantly ripping a guy off??????

I think we're better off keeping him around with the same username. We ban that one, he just comes back as someone else (he probably will anyway) that none of us will recognize right away.

So bigdarrin will kick you off for posting a pic of girls in bikinis but won't ban a guy for blatantly ripping off a reputable member and asset to SnoWest even when all the evidence has been laid out in front of him. It's too bad SnoWest isn't the tight-knit group that it used to be. Seems like this keeps happening more and more and makes it tougher and tougher for members like myself to sell anything anymore.

Sorry to hear about this Scott. I wish you the best in getting it figured out.

bigdarrin- keep in mind you're letting this happen and therefore giving this dbag and plenty others an opportunity to screw over another SnoWest member. Way to support "YOUR" forum

See above. I have also never kicked anyone off for posting girls in bikinis. That only warrants a warning. I will respectfully disagree and just say that by keeping the thread around, we can bring as much attention as possible to the situation. We try to have as little oversight on the swap meet as possible. These things tend to find their own solutions, oftentimes through threads like this one.

BTW, I have deleted a few posts that called for violence or provided information for people other than Ryan. Also some (I'm sure I missed a few) of the unnecessary name-calling has been removed.

Here's hoping that the final resolution is a fair one.

Darrin

Scammers get NO sympathy. If you don't want your parents phone number and info up, don't scam people. Not that tuff to figure out little man. Sounds like the only reason he's coming around w/ you is to get this thread off here so he can rip somebody else off.
