SNOWEST FORUMS: Member Comments on "Letter to All Members"

Christopher, question and a comment. Maybe you won't care to share the info.

We have 36,000 total members, with a 50% highly active rate. To be perfectly honest, it's anyone's guess what we will have in mid-winter. This is a huge gamble on our part and we think it will work, but there are no real numbers that I could offer you.

While there can be no doubt that we WILL LOOSE some of our members, I think it is also very likely you will see some new faces show up and start participating who have been avoiding this place like the plague because of the constant bickering and in-fighting that has come to color this place over the years. But again, you will simply have to take a wait and see approach to see how it all shakes out over the winter and next spring.

There are none in our industry that have done what we are now attempting to do. We are trailblazing here.

so just follow you off the cliff then???:D

funny how we asked you about OUR info we have put on here and now it seems we can no longer delete old info we POSTED!!I for one think you are heading down a slippery slope my friend..

Do the math, just think if every member here paid, thats 35000 members x $30 a member, thats $1,050,000. Are they really making a MILLION dollars worth of improvements?
OH PLEASE, Get serious here.
There is UTTERLY NO CHANCE of that happening and you know it.

1st, the 36,000 members are NOT all active.

Our active list is less than 50% of that.

And NO ONE is being asked to spend $30.

Last I checked the most expensive membership was $14.95

And there is NO CHANCE that we would ever get 100% of the active members to convert.

A Million Dollars.!
Only in our dreams.....:)

Just throwing this out there, you should have a model that pays the member as well. Something where, if you put up a good technical article or conditions or help someone you could directly pay that person an amount of money.
On hardcoresledders I used to get really good info from a member there and would send him something at Christmas. If there was a way to have those people paid for great advice or conditions it would attract the kind of people you want here. I would pay a couple dollars here and there to know how Cooke City riding is currently or the best clutching for a sled/ Just a thought .:beer;

Real nice, if you mention a certain forum name in your posts they get changed to Snowest. What brilliant mind came up with this......seems that some are trying to lose membership and P iss people off so they won't pay for either the subscription or the mag.

I wonder if it is the same Mods that jumped ship and now are Members over at B A C K C O U N T R Y R E B E L S. That is why I made my posts in the General area. I think it is BS for snowest mods to become members of that site, considering the reasons why that site was started. They need to step down as mods here.

This place is quickly becoming a joke. I was for the paid subscription, but seeing how this place is moderated I think I will take my 10 bucks and flush it down the toilet.

Crappy Mods should get voted off the island when they are insulting or abusing their "Power".

I will agree to help this go forward to the next step with a positive attitude so long as the Mods and Admin become more in tune with the paying customer.
I agree.
I have said before and I will say it again.
When you can give me clear cut non-biased PROOF that one of our Moderators is acting out of line or abusing the authority I have given them, then I will take action.

But you had better be sure you can provide me with chapter and verse when you decide to attack one of them.

I have been one of the critics of all of the recent changes for quite some time, but I am not going to rush to judgment like a lot of people regarding a fee based forum.
I was one of the ones that voluntarily donated a few bucks when the paypal button was up (hopefully, if I have to pay later on I can get a credit for that :D ). The thing about any product that has a price tag is that people will pay only when the value exceeds the price. I haven't logged on or posted much at all lately because to me the value has been removed from the site by all of the changes (and all of the lagging), even though it is currently free of charge! Christopher, I admire the tenacity you have shown and the way you have graciously handled all of the negativity thrown at you, and I am certain that you want to improve the site - but I wish you would scale back the changes to the forum. Maybe before you launch a major add on or change a module you could do a test run for a week or so and then take a poll before making the change permanent, if the people approve launch it, if not at least consider leaving that module out. I love spending time on the SW forums and would hate to quit coming here altogether, but that is the direction things seem to be heading.

We should know by New Years how this is going to work, one way or the other.

Obviously, on this end, we think its going to work out just fine, and we are putting our money where our mouth is.

Talk is cheap, and actions speak louder than words.
We are making a huge investment in the forums going forward.

dont you mean youre putting OUR money where your mouth is?

i wouldnt be here if i had to pay to sign up.

Go look at another certain forum's members list and see YOUR MODERATORS as members there. That is a conflict of interest for SNOWEST. If they want to be two faced and not show true support for this site, then they should not be Moderators for this site.

IMO Snowest will lose a lot of credibility if you continue to have Moderators that show disloyalty.

It sound like it is free

????

You think that because I become a mod for the cat section. I should not even be able to belong to another forum?

Money is the root of all evil.....A greedy man stirs up dissension, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper. Greed at its finest! All this for the love of money.. Its sad that harris pub and whoever made up this decision, will be in a since making money off its members... The paying members are the product. Not many places that you have to pay to be sold as product! With that said, will I pay... maybe, the price isn't the issue its the principle! Chris when this is all rolling make sure to post up some profit margins so we can see what WE the members are worth as product!

Which came first? The Chicken or the Egg?

About 6-8 months ago I started recieving notices of the new exciting changes that were going on with the Snowest Forums.

Which Came first? The Chicken or the Egg?

Changes that came resulted in poor website performance and are not well recieved.

As a result of the "Changes" and the negative effect they had on the forum, there was no choice but to upgrade infrastructure.

Infrastucture Cost Money.

Money, in turn is now resulting in a fee, selling you on the added features "changes" that you did not want to begin with.

This is a great forum. It was made great by all the FREE content relayed by the contributing members, not by the "sub-cetegory in a category" or "chat" features.

However now that you have all this valueable content, that was given for free from the supporting members of the sport and website, you can sell it back to us. WTF

I have gotten a lot of help from very willing folks on this site, and have hopefully helped a few myself, I am truly dissappointed in whats going on.

The only thing I see clearly is that the intellectual content that has been given willingly by so many who love Snowest and the Sport, is being Hijacked.

I have no problem with paying a small fee to use this forum. Many other quality forums are this way, they charge for full usage and minimal usage is free. And once again, I agree with everything Big Darren has to say….he knows how to calm the troops with diplomatic terms and a bit of reality, Chris is lacking in this department.

Maybe the change will reduce all the stalker alter accounts….lord I hope.

A few things I hope wont increase:
-Special interests from mods on threads that pimp a product.
-More foo foo pie graphs and bars that show your internet coolness
Radski30 and his four alter egos constantly stalking product tester and the mods doing nothing about it…oh ive complained, but they seem a bit busy turning this place into twitter and pimping products they sell:confused:

You think that because I become a mod for the cat section. I should not even be able to belong to another forum?

With the reasons why "that certain other Forum" was started I view it as a credibility issue that mods from this site jumped ship sooooo fast over to that site while the rumor mill was still buzzing. Look up the definition of Conflict Of Interest....it fits in this situation.

Though I seem to remember that you have had some other issues and why you shouldn't be a mod.:eek:

This is just an opinion like all the rest, so take it for what its worth, but;

We, as possibly paying members, should have a large say in who the mods of certain sections are. We, the members, should be able to put the entire group of mods up to vote and see who remain and who get to pound sand.

It shouldn't take a genius to figure out those that would stay compaired to those that would be voted off.

That is, of course, if said mods alter's aren't allowed to vote.

And that opens up another can of worms. Is there ever going to be a crack down on alters?

You think that because I become a mod for the cat section. I should not even be able to belong to another forum?

I don’t think that, but its flat out wrong that you used you MOD power to tailor the content of a thread that will somehow benefit what you are selling or people you support…..that my friend is “special interest” and should not be tolerated. You’ve done nothing to the other 1000 bash fests threads in the cat turbo section……but you jumped up and down like a gorilla when others had content that did not praise the “push turbo kit”

Understand I agree you made a good choice in removing the bash content,. but you went way over board in tailoring the thread to your “special interests

It was very clear you felt the need to make that thread look like gold as you are installed this kit and support it..
