Ten bucks is no big deal, if thats all I have to pay to get the speed back to where it was. As far a video casting, I really don't want Mule naked broadcasting from his couch. I already have deep physiological issues, I don't need anymore.

Goodbye for now

so then let me ask this--this winter when people are looking for snow reports do we then get payed for our info??maybe something like 10bucks per photo and 15 for a accurate description of the snow conditions??

Christopher, question and a comment. Maybe you won't care to share the info.

1 - What do you project the subscription rate to be, say at the end of 2010. Right now you surely know what the activity rate is like with the 36,000 user accounts, how many of them are active. So what do you expect that activity rate to be at the end of 2010 after starting the fee system?

2 - My biggest concern is that some of the most knowledgable people that have a world of info in their heads will take a hike now. And so what do I then get for my subscription fee. We won't know what that looks like until later next year I suppose, but that is the biggest concern for me.

3 - Care to share the names of these sites your reference in the announcement that have converted to pay and are doing well? I'm pretty well connected in the electronic media world and I can't think of any off the top of my head in the motorsports world.

I would like to know what this new site will mean for dial up. I'm on dial up and where I live thats not going to change. As it is now I avoid pictures and video is simply not possible. I'm afraid all these new features will be unusable. I don't think the money is an issue for anyone, however, I use this site for the swapmeet and technical info that I get from others, what happens if the "others" move on? One last question for you Christopher, who are you and where did you come from? You just "appeared" and took over these forums. Do you sled? In the hills? Is this your 9 to 5 and you do something other than sledding for recreation or is sledding something that you spent so much time in you finally decided you might as well make a living off it? I'm not trying to start trouble, I would just like to know where you are coming from.

THANK YOU.
I hope that begining next year you will see NEW CONTENT on the forums start showing up that has never been here before.

And, there are no projections that we have made that suggest this will ever be a "considerable" source of income relative to the rest of the corporation. Should we be so lucky and fortunate, you can count on us re-investing right back into the community.

Sounds great, if thats fact then I am in.

I think we all have to realize that in this day of age we are used to people with a hand out expecting something for little to no work, or making it off someone elses back (snowest members) and it looked like snowest was taking this approach until speaking with you and clearing out some misunderstandings about where my dollars would go. Snowmobilers seem to be on average hard working good people who will not put up with something that is not right, making significant profits from a forum that other users provide the information, I think alot of snowmobilers see that as wrong, and I think its why you are seeing such a backlash.

I honestly believe it would go a long way to have harris publishing on record stating the fact that if the site did become a considerable source of revenue, that the biggest chunk is going to donation and have something to back this up. I would be happy to pay for the site being reassured that I am helping my sport, and not making people rich here while our sport dies, and I dont think I would be alone.

Do the math, just think if every member here paid, thats 35000 members x $30 a member, thats $1,050,000. Are they really making a MILLION dollars worth of improvements?

But consider a broadcast from some of the other major players in the sport. We could bring in some cool personalities for an evening online.

Maybe we can add a private whiner forum it could be free and it could be hosted somewhere else.:D:D:D

So in your brilliant estimation, anyone who has history with this forum and can't stand seeing what it's turned into when a majority of the users don't want the kid crap in the first place are all whiners?

You are an insult to the good Moderators and should be removed for this reason and the fact that you are a biased dealer. That would be the first sign of some kind of justice here lately.
Maybe you could create a pompous azz forum and you could be the subject matter expert.

Hmmmmm
The possibilities are endless.:)

I've seen you delete posts for statements like this when you personally didn't agree with them now you condone them?...
What gives Christopher?
Double standards?

As you can tell from the passion expressed over $10, its way more than that to many people.

The Passion and arguments, debates have nothing to do with the amount of money you are asking for.
Don't you still not get it?
Do not continue to only look at this whole subject as black and white.
It's always been about principle.
The real value here is the input and expertize from the members and now you, with HP's help are trying to profit off of it

FAIR ENOUGH.

Stick around for the next 30-45 days while we get things running and then report back to me with what you think of what we have done during that's month's time.

I have decided along with a few others to take a wait and see approach because this forum has meant a great deal to me over the years
but the Administration must re-think their choices for some of the Moderators and begin to listen to the member's input.

Some of them stir up more crap than they are cleaning up and no dealers should be moderators.

Mods need to stop THEIR name calling because we cannot delete their posts or give them infractions. (MMsports...Whiners.)

Since this WILL become a pay site then we will be the real owners as paying customers and we should have some say in the direction of some of these "Goodies" Christopher speaks of....Don't you agree?

Crappy Mods should get voted off the island when they are insulting or abusing their "Power" and a good portion of that decision should come from the paying customers.

I will agree to help this go forward to the next step with a positive attitude so long as the Mods and Admin become more in tune with the paying customer.
Listen to them, they are truly the ones who built this forum to what it is today.
Stop ignoring their concerns.

We have 36,000 total members, with a 50% highly active rate. To be perfectly honest, it's anyone's guess what we will have in mid-winter. This is a huge gamble on our part and we think it will work, but there are no real numbers that I could offer you.

2 - My biggest concern is that some of the most knowledgable people that have a world of info in their heads will take a hike now. And so what do I then get for my subscription fee. We won't know what that looks like until later next year I suppose, but that is the biggest concern for me.
While there can be no doubt that we WILL LOOSE some of our members, I think it is also very likely you will see some new faces show up and start participating who have been avoiding this place like the plague because of the constant bickering and in-fighting that has come to color this place over the years. But again, you will simply have to take a wait and see approach to see how it all shakes out over the winter and next spring.

3 - Care to share the names of these sites your reference in the announcement that have converted to pay and are doing well? I'm pretty well connected in the electronic media world and I can't think of any off the top of my head in the motorsports world.
There are none in our industry that have done what we are now attempting to do. We are trailblazing here.

With all the Joe's on here that subscribe to p o r n sites for a lot more the $10 a year I suppose that SNOWEST will get a fair number of subscribers.

I hope all the speed problems are resolved with the server upgrade; if not I expect that if I'm paying to be here other roadblocks to timely access will be resolved.

Thank you for changing my name back, not that I should have to say thank you for undoing something like that.

Nobody changed your name.. your changed name was the result of a change we put into effect elsewhere and you were the unfortunate victim for about 30 minutes.

Boy do you know how to make noise when you feel like the man's keepin' you down. =)

Just wondering how much of the revenue will be spent on sled related organizations north of the 49th? A lot of us are Canucks and supporting the US sled lobby does not do much for us. Our playgrounds are becoming pastures for drunken lost cariboo. Just saying.

This was actually still in discussion when it was decided to put the release out without all of the *finetuning* done due to what was happening around here.

Do you have suggestions for organizations in Canada that are supporting the sport of snowmobiling?

Several months ago I posted this thread on this very subject.

Back in the 90's I was a member at Amsnow.com. Someone came up with the hairbrained idea of charging a membership fee. I paid the fee and less than 6 months later (i think) I was looking for another forum. There were no members anymore at Amsnow and nothing going on. What a waste of money that was. Anyway I found snowest and have been here since shortly after the beginning. I don't think I will be buying a membership again just to throw money out the window. If everyone leaves that says they are leaving this site will go the way of Amsnow. Granted there are a lot of the so called whiners that have said they are leaving but there are also alot of senior members who have said the same.

Its these little inside jokes creating a wedge between the mods and the users.

That did come up in our discussions!
When we build the list of USER SELECTABLE organizations, there will be those that represent you!!
