sled training support group.... getting ready to ride

That is still a sub-one hour 10K if you can keep the pace up! Nice work!

I'm gonna try to resume my normal workout today; had to change it up a bit after doing something to my left knee last Saturday moving fridges. Stupid kitchen reno! Can't wait to have it done so I can focus on riding-related activities!

i forgot to add, i was 190 on the scale this morning too, down 10 pounds in 4 weeks. 10-15 more to go. getting back on target for weight and cardio stamina for my goal... 10.5 weeks to go.

thanks for the support 1320, if i could run a 10k start to finish no stopping, that would be an accomplishment. kind if humbled me this am looking at my time, remembering my youth and running cross country 5k's in high school in the high teens for time. just to get to 20 minutes, i would have to shave off 3 minutes a mile from this am's time. seems very unobtainable for me at this stage in my life.

if i can run the 4 mile block around the house in the next few weeks i will be very happy. ski

congrats on staying focussed on a workout routine,,,, it is not easy specially in your older age. weight goes on really easy, but is hard to shed off. Diet is the key. with the workout staying at 4 days a week or more the lean high protein no fat diet will help melt off the fat. that is to me the hardest part. i can stay pretty focused on at least 3 days a week, but i love food. good food. hard for me to stay decipline to a healthy diet,,, in portions not ingredients. its to easy for me to eat too much. luckily i have a high metabolism or my 5.8 160 frame would be 20#'s bigger. still would like to shed the 5 to 8 pounds of jelly i got from beer and over eating. i was at 150 last year this time.. Good luck:cheer2:

well after i'lldooit's older age crack..... J/K...

i awoke this morning feeling pretty good after yesterday's run. decided i would try the 4mile loop, way ahead of my target date to do it. LOOKS LIKE I NEED TO MOVE MY GOALS OUT ALITTLE FURTHER. not only did i make it but i really felt good cardiowise. i wasnt huffin and puffin, or gasping for air. actually a nice pace, and other than my calves and acchille's (sp) tendon aching alittle at the end....

as james brown said... I FEEL GOOD!

there is a 5k run next week i am thinking about entering. man, who'da thunk???

thanks guys, i hope this is helping you as much as it is me. just updating progress, and knowing others are going through the same thing for the same goal, all while supporting one another is a good thing to look forward to.

now i am going to draw a hot bath, and eat some ice cream. LOL! again.... J/K

after my great sunday, i had a set back monday. somehow i overexerted my lower back muscles sunday, or early monday. dont know what i did. as the day wore on monday, my back got tighter, and tighter. i went to the gym for cardio stretching, and abs, trying to get my flexibility back, thinking i could loosen things up. BAD IDEA!!!

by the end of the day i could hardly walk. laying down was uncomfortable, bending over at all was extremely painful. alieve, and muscle relaxants have helped but, it was a LOOOONG night.

i am doing alittle better today but, i am hoping it gets better more sooner, than later. hate to miss any workouts this close to going out west. i am taking today off obviously. i may skip tomorrow as well. back problems SUCK!

Workouts

I was curious if anyone here has a certain regimen for supplements. Anything from vitamins/minerals, protien/creatine or xtra curricular stuff. Has anyone found certain combinations to work when it comes to creating a regimen for peak performance when riding. Please share your experiences.

Off to see the chiropractor.....

daily vitamin C, zinc, vitamin E, multi-vitamin. everyday @ lunch, and post workout, a whey protein shake with 2% milk, and glutamine. evening/late snack soy protein shake. sometimes i pour a bowl of fibre 1 cereal and add the banana soy protein with limited mile to make a thick, pudding type paste. not the greatest but, it cures my sugar cravings (most nights).

most supplements just are snake oil. creatine can be found in all red meat. but taking it as a supplement gives you "artificial" gains, as it makes you retain water, making you believe you are adding mass.

good whole foods, supplemented with extra protein based on body weight, lots of water, and rest, along with training hard, gives you gains over the long term. there are no short cuts.

well i took tuesday and weds off. i still was fairly sore thursday but i opted to suck it up and go for my upper body work out. it didnt cause me any extra pain but it didnt help me any either.

today i feel alittle better but still sore and my lower back is tight. i went and did 45 minutes of moderate cardio. but, i didnt do abs. i thought the way i felt afterwards, i better not push it and go for the abs workout. hopefully i can make that up next week.

how you guys doin?

i guess this is new info to you guys but taking viagra when you go to the mountains will help. or i suppose you could take a pre-workout Nitric-oxide supplement too. i take arnge krush but its so full of caffeine that it might not be suitable for some people. no i did not mean NITROUS-oxide.

just my opinion,, but when my lower back get's soar,,,,, its a combo somehow of running and not streching my hamstrings, drinkin to much, and the biggest problem was not doing any situps, or ab work out...... abs are the oppisite the stomach. give them strength, or muscle tightness from a workout and receive back pain relief.. works for me.

Still going, 95 pounds lost as of today.

No supplements, no vitamins. Good old fashioned diet and exercise. Probably helps I'm young.

i think your right i'lldooit. i woke up this am and i finally almost felt normal. decided to run the 4 miles again. stretched, warmed up (albiet easy as my back is still alittle tight), and ran the loop. i finished and felt great about it but, almost immediately my lower back started tightening up.

i am sure i will pay for it the next several days. i have strong core and abs, i just happen to have facette's syndrome. which is a progressive back disorder. mine happens to be right near my ciatic nerve. but this pain isnt the same as my facette's.

i think in my case, due to my age, my problem is the padding in my back discs is shrinking. and this is what is causing my pain along with the impact from running. i am not very flexible and i have been trying to stretch the hams more and more to get more flexibility. i always stretch, and the warm up with a short walk before running at all.

i guess today is the big test. if i cant walk tomorrow, i might be done road running for awhile. i might be stuck with the stationary bike, eliptical, and treadmill from here out (this season anyway). but, if you know anything about fitness, you dont get as much out of those machines as you do a good old fashioned run or bike ride at a spirited pace.

here's to hoping i dont hurt too bad tomorrow. good luck to you all in your efforts.

68... keep going buddy, you are so close to losing 100 pounds it isnt funny. that is like losing a whole person. WAY TO GO BROTHER!!!! my hat is off to you.

with bad back pain like that i would say the stationary bike would be much better for it. tight hamstrings are also associated with lower back pain. Hang upsidedown from your feet...... this really works to open the water sockets between the spine allowing better recovery from daily abuse. Running is very compressing to the spine. good luck. hope ya feel better:pizza::pizza::pizza::pizza::pizza::pizza::pizza::pizza::pizza:

Hope it gets better...

I had to pull a 40 hour shift from thursday at 7:00am to repair a fiberoptic cable that had about 15,000 people with out phone or internet even cell service was out because our service feeds the cell sites. Needless to say I'm beat and getting my sleep habits in order will take a couple days. I will go hunting today and sunday so I will do some walking but after being on my feet that long, digging, splicing, and crawling around on the ground I hurt every were so I'm going to skip any thing other than walking till monday.

I did work out all last week up till thursday morning so I really only missed friday, but my diet while working was shot the company was bringing us meals but it was fast food.

jac, a couple days of moderately bad food wont hurt your progress, just make it up later.

today i got another 45 minutes of cardio, and my ab workout in. after i stretched with the leg press machine. then i did a few sets of squats with very strict form in the smith machine, trying to stretch out my hams and back.

i did learn something, while in the machine, while strtching, i learn my right hip was ALOT tighter than the left. after the stretching i felt alot better. i am going to add that a few times a week to get some flexibility into my old bones. ski

went 5 days in a row up till tuesday (busy day for me at work). took tuesday off, hit the gym for upper body weds, and did 45 minutes of high paced cardio, 15-20 minutes of abs, and light leg/stretching workout for my back.

good news, my shoulder chest issue i had a few weeks ago is all but gone. my back is loosening up almost no pain now. i really think the stretching with squats and the machine press is really helping.

if i can stay healthy with no illnesses (germafobe), and i dont injure myself in the next 60 days or so.... i should be better than i was last year when we arrived. way ahead of schedule. cardio is good, could be better but, i am pushing it more and more till we go. not going to give up trying to do better each workout.

keep it up guys. our time is almost here. ski
