sled training support group.... getting ready to ride

Got in a good workout last night;
30 min eliptical
10 min rowing
30 min weights
15 min eliptical
30 min treadmill
15 min bike

All in that order. Weight is down to 255.

took yesterday off, it rained ALL DAY. layed around the house being lazy and didnt do anything but make my homemade spagehtti sauce. ate a few bowls then felt like i wrecked the diet. LOL!

ran this morning 2 miles like last sunday but, the temps were crisp and cool with a big breeze from the north. my first leg of the run was into the wind, and it kicked my butt badly. i didnt think i was going to be able to run the whole way today but, i sucked it up and pushed on to complete the whole 2 miles.

i know you cant do better then the previous run everytime but, this really took the wind out of my sails so to speak. thought i was on target and doing well. and i figured i would breeze through the run this morning after feeling so good last week. but now i have been humbled to knowing, I STILL HAVE ALOT OF WORK CUT OUT FOR ME!

on a positive note... my wife who was injured 2 weeks ago, ran for the first time this am and made it 1.5 miles. i was really impressed with that. she had a boat trailer jack drop on her right knee and it opened her up pretty good. it took over 20 stitches to close her. so for her to be able to run already is awesome.

back on eating clean today, heading to the garage to work on the sleds for the afternoon. hoping to get into the treestand for deer this evening. keep it up everyone. frost is in the air for tonight. it wont be long and we will be riding. ski

Good plan

Last year I did p90x.My starting weight was 190 lbs.Stopped drinking sodas and eating ice cream and two months later 160 lbs.Best year I ever had riding.Pretty brutal workout with doing strength and cardio 6 days a week but well worth it.

If you don't have any injuries...Try P90x. I started with it last summer and weighed 232 pounds with almost 28 percent body fat. I have been doing different versions of it since then (with cross-fit workouts as well). I am now 190 pounds with 10 percent body fat. (vanity stat) I like them because they are a no frills workout that gets results through good old fashioned hard work. No gimmicks. If you start now you will be in great shape by the time you leave for out west.

decent week so far. sunday i got in the stand in the afternoon, shot a smaller whitetail buck with my bow. recovered him, hung him up sunday night. monday, i worked, went to the gym, 36 minutes of cardio, 15 minutes of abs. came home, cut up the deer.

tuesday rest day, took the boned meat to the butcher to have some summer sausage/salami made.

today had a light day at work, went to the gym did chest, bi's and tri's. had a good workout albiet felt a little twinge in the right collar bone area when i was decline benching. a little tender tonight.

tomorrow i'll get up at dawn, and run 2 miles before work. (i hope). how you guys hanging in there??? 12 weeks to go before we leave. ski

Took sunday and monday off to rest, that's my saterday and sunday. Jumped on the scale yesterday and was pleased to report a 12 lbs drop from when I start this. 256 starting and down to 244, I'm looking for under 200 but my goal is 220 by december, pretty hi to expect that much but I think it's do able.

Been on a high protein diet to add to the work outs. So far I'm doing pretty good but my Red Hook ESB calls to me in the evenings after a long day. Even if I'm not perfect I have at least cut my carbs off a ton and increased dietary fiber intake, also hardly any sugar. I hope it helps, cause it's not easy, once you start counting it's hard to beleive how many carbs there are in normal food.

I hit the gym all year and run when I get motivated. Still, I like to ramp up the running before sled season as it s a KILLER on the cardio... especially when stuck in the too deep early-season powder (can't wait!). :face-icon-small-hap I still find it takes some time to get into proper running shape where you can actually put some distance on though. Gotta keep pushing as the beer season hit me hard this year! (Sigh) Gotta keep pushing and, like many of you, watch the diet.

The gym is excellent for getting unstuck and overall fatigue I find. As I lift all year (not for bulk but for good health) I find that I am rarely sore at the end of a day or weekend -- except for my back, that is. It's so nice not to be immobile the day or two after a ride. I would encourage you all to keep up the weight-lifting as well as running, just as many of you are. Hope to be riding for many more years.

i didnt want to run this morning before work but, i got up, got out, stretched and carried on with the game plan. made it 2.5 miles this morning. it sucked but, i did it. gotta keep pushing. like i said before.... ANYONE CAN WORK OUT WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT. it is when you dont want to, and still manage a good work out that is the difference.

For my job we have a mandatory workout time every shift . The things that seam to work the best for us is P90x or Cross-fit . I like the P90x program the best you may not lose alot of weight but you lose alot of body fat and gain alot of muscle . Your cardio will improve also . I modified mine , not really into kempo or yoga . You can make it as difficult as you want the harder you work the better the results . It really works .

My buddy did that this year and really liked it. Good to know it is good for you as well, especially about the weight vs. fat thing. Might be on the list to do one day. I say one day because it looks so hard. Must be why it works...

You guys need to be like me and weigh 155lbs. joke...but really. I love going out west with guys that weigh 200 plus, because weight and the ability to hop around my sled make such a difference!

yesterday i worked from home in the am. went to the gym about noon, for 40 minutes of cardio and 15 minutes of abs. on the random hill program on the stationary bike level 8, i made 6 miles in 12.5 minutes. intensity comming up, conditioning getting better. eliptical and treadmill are getting easier, time to up the effort and or resistance.

i am taking today off as a rest day but, i did go hiking on my property doing some in season deer sign scouting. tomorrow am i am going to try to make it 3 miles on my run.

wish me luck! ski

Keep at it it will pay off. I lost 60lbs this off season because getting a nytro unstuck is hard enough without carrying around all that baggage... I suggest cardio ALL the time and count calories you'd be surprised how much junk (empty calories) we eat and dont even realize it...

MADE IT!!! 3 MILES, the first time since 2007 when i was training for the amatuer nationals for supermoto.

i actully opened up my stride and picked the pace up, the last 400-600 yards. so, i am feeling pretty good. not too bad for a 43 year old. LOL!

this was huge for me. my goal is to be able to run our 4 mile square, around our house. our area is divided up into one square mile sections so, one square is 4 miles. that would be more miles running than i have since i ran cross country in high school over 25 years ago.

this thread is really helping me, i hope it is motivating others too. thank you guys! ski

Well, put my belt on yesterday and something seemed wrong? Well I lost a a hole on the belt!!! I had an old pair of 36" waste jeans in the closet and they fit ... been a 38" waste for the last 10 years. Down a waste size and I'm at just over 15lbs lost, 240 now about a month and a half to go and 20lbs time to dig in my heels

That was a good moral boost for me, the diet is proving to be very hard to follow but this helped refresh my drive. Diet includes no soda ( very rairly I allow a diet soda as a treat ... once a week... maybe ) High protein, High Dietary Fiber, no processed foods, no fast food, no sugery food, really watching the carbs trying to keep them around 20% or less of the daily recomended and most of that is with breakfast to ensure as much as possible is burned before bed. Food seems bland, but it kinda helps because if all you can eat is food that is not satisfing you are less intrested in eating it.

I faltered today and forgot to turn my alarm on today and slept in. Felt weird all day at work, the workouts are starting to feel "good" and I miss them on the days I miss. Now I need to lay off or reduce my caffine intake AKA coffee, I drink 1-2 cups in the morning and then take a thermos to work and drink it all day.... again this is for the last 10+ years. I'm going to start by reducing my intake to 1 cup at home and 1 travel cup for the road. Down from a full pot to two cups should help. I may throw some tea in there ... caffine free of course.

How is everyone else doing... don't quite on me now guys riding starts soon !!!!

Great thread guys, I'm surprised I didn't find this until now!

It takes a lot of discipline to stick with the program all year long, and even more from year to year with our busy lives. I kinda fell off the wagon about 2 years ago, and was paying the price last season. I vowed that this year would be different! And so far it has..... well, the offseason anyways.

Only a few more weeks till we can RIDE!!!! :)

Nope had another great workout this morning, I doubled down on the abs today and I'm feeling it now that I'm at work. I'm going to try to add a short run to the morning workouts, I don't have much time so I'm hoping for 1 mile. That would mean upper body and core strength, followed by isolated abs, then cardio every morning. Total work out time would be around 50 mins... not sure if that's good or bad??

Drop my caffine intake down to two cups of coffe in the morning... this is day three and it's going well. Switched to caffine free pepermint tea in the afternoons, don't even know if to is good for me but I need something to sip on threw the day. Still not used to it yet, get sleepy around 2-3:00 but get a second wind later in the day.

i did 42 minutes of cardio and then abs on monday, took tuesday off (should have ran or something but, just couldnt make it), weds i did upper body, had a decent workout. thursday i did another 42 minutes of cardio and then abs. had my stuff packed for the gym today but, had a long never ending day at work so, i just went home and walked through my archery range and shot the bow for about 45 minutes.

going to run tomorrow am going for 3 miles again. then i am going to order my new 2011Elite Pure compound bow in snow camo from a local shop. need something for ME after having a bad work week. LOL!

going to mow the leaves tomorrow. hopefully i can get back in the treestand and get another buck soon.

next week i'll be up to 45 minutes of cardio and then the abs. add a minute a week. it builds up quickly.

keep it up guys! ski

Still going here, as of today 90 pounds lost so far in about 7months.

I switched my program up, instead of working out at night I'm not getting up at 5am and going to the gym before work at 8. Todays work out was 30 min eliptical, 30 min jog on treadmill and finished with some weights for 30.

got in another 3 mile run this am, it took me 29:47 to complete it. not world class but, not bad for a 43 year old couch tater @ approx 10 minutes a mile.

leaves are calling me...... mow me, mow me. LOL!

keep going guys, it is worth it. do it for YOURSELF. ski
