Anyone out there ridin both the 800 and 1000? I am looking at both and just wondering if there is a huge difference how each one handles. Can you throw the 1000 around as good as the 800?

no, the rt is way heavier, but the power is sick... if you have a good setup, a little weight lost, and the right skis and the RT is sweet, im 160 in gear and i dont think the RT is to bad to throw around... its not quite as nimble as the 800's but the power is INSANE... with a 162 you can just crawl along, good times for shure.

if by your name your used to an apex, it wont be bad at all

I've had both and the RT is a work out for sure. I'm 200 plus with gear and at the end of the day your one tired SOB. If your looking at a rev, either the 06' with the powertech or an 07 with an 800R I would go with one of those. The RT does have great power, and with the 162" I didn't get stuck very often but when I did. Let's just say you may as well take off the helmet and jacket and get out the shovel, your going to be there awhile. Infact, I would say my 07' 151 with the 800R would highmark my RT. Not by much, but the added weight was somewhat of a hinderence.

I have a 06 rt1000 151 and have spent lots of time on 06 and 07 800 doo's. The 1000 in deep powder is a blast, it gets a little challenging when the snow sets up. A properly set-up 1000 will out climb an 800, it has crazy power. If your a big guy, over 220 lbs and like lot's of power, go with the 1000. If you are under 200 lbs and like to play more than highmark, get the 800.

I agree the 151" RT is easier to handle in set up conditions and has better trail manners than a 162" and is also easier to boondock with, but as far as highmark goes against an 07' 800R I haven't seen that. Don't get me wrong, an RT will highmark with the best of them, however snow type and conditions do play a big role. Just my experience with my 05' RT and every 800 I've had since 01' and I've had a new one every year.

The 800s are lighter and easier to ride, but they will not highmark a 1000 in deep snow or set up conditions.Ive never been highmarked by a 800,the biggest difference is the longer steep hills where there is really no comparison. The 1000s torque is too much for the 800.Granted you have to be able to muscle around the 1000 which I think is well worth it.

Yea had them both, i came off the ZX chassis before the RT never rode a rev either, I had a hard time gettin used to the thing, Once i lost the sway bar, and moved the rear wheeles in i was able to side hill like no tomarrow. The set up snow conditions are a bit more chalanging But if you are comin off an Apex you should have no Problem. Addin a 174 to the mix was even funner, There really wasn't much that it couldn;t doo!!(pun intende)
With the button down(NOS) I could run down a TM700, Granted I had a bit of a run on him But none the less run him down, and cought him at the top.

Dialed in these are a far superior sled for a non turboed unit.

Compared to the 06 800 159 with the Slp performance package(165hp,claimed in the Magazine) There was no highmarkin the RT still In ANY condition. I love the nibbleness of the REV, and I am going to miss the RT But I sold it localy and will be able to ride with him and watch it go everyonce in a while.

Good luck with your Purchase.!!!

The rt 1000

I have never ridden a 800 rev. But I do own a 1000 rt. I have been very happy so far with my 1000. Im a big guy and I have no problem using the sled to do anything i want. I ride with a group of buddies who have dragons and m8's and a couple xp's and I can go and do anything they can do.
If you go for the 1000 you wont be disapointed. If you are a smaller guy i reccomend the 151" track, otherwise go for the 162". That is my only regret. I dont run out of power, I run out of track. The 800 is a great sled though. They have been making them a lot longer then the 1000(R.I.P.). I hope they get the xp's figured out and drop the 1000 back into the new chassis. I think that would be awesome to have a 480ish lb. 1000xp. I did a lot of extras to my 1000. Believe it or not. I shaved close to 40 lbs off mine and I tell ya its a blast to ride. Having a hard time deciding on what to get for a new one so I might just extend the track to 162 on mine and put boss noss on it.

800 my choice!!

I have owned a 162 2005 1000 rt, and still own my 06 800 HO summit X 159
I weigh about 185 and could not handle the Weight of the 1000 thru the trees or a quick high mark turn! I cannot complain about the power of the
1000 , it was the bomb! but I know it would not have out climbed my 800 in
a decent powder setting!!

It will be dependent on your Strength and riding abilities to which sled fits
you best!!

Grab the sleds and tip them on thier sides! if you can get the 1000 over easliy ..... you are the man!!

I have had both. An 05 1000 and an 06 and 07 rev 800. The 06 has an slp 163 kit in it, which is less than the 1000, and it will beat any 1000 I ever run against.
I probably got a lemon in 05 but that was the biggest pos I ever had. Ski-doo lied through their teeth on the weight. the 800 are way more fun to ride.
I will admit I had one buddy with a 1000 that my 06 would not beat without the nitrous. He put a lot of money in it to lose weight and converted it from a 162 to a 151. If mine had run that good I would have rode it one more year. His was an 06. If you are going to get a 1000 don't get the 05. When we were in the trees he still struggles with the weight of the 1000.
you can get an 800 and make it run better for less money than you can buy a 1000. The 800 will be way lighter and more fun to ride. Ski-doo quit making the 1000. Whats that tell you.

it tells you they didnt put enough design into the 1000 because it wasnt a big enough market, and they refused to fix obvious issues, like sealing the intake, it eliminates the cranks going every few hundred miles issue. the relocating the fuel pump and adding a thermostat. i know most people dont wanna have to do this much to a sled, but hey, for the price you can pic em up for right now, its kinda worth it. I paid $3500 for one with at LEAST $1500 in mods on it, i spent about $100 bucks adding a few things to it, now its ROCK solid, handles really well, and flat out rips, just takes some time, and strength to ride it, for all around the 800 is better, but for more climbing, less super tight tree riding, the 1000 just has the balls to do things the 800 cant.

i bought an 05 rt 1000 162" with 572km on the original build. Now its true that there were alot of problems with these sleds, there were even alot of lemons.Bogging, Fuel pumps, to blown engines etc.... I got lucky with mine cuz i havnt had much problem with it at all. Except i gotta do the top end now at 2200 km. So far the only thing ive done to it is a brmp exhaust. I ride with alot of different people and a lot of different sleds, and i can tell you that NO 800 will highmark the 1000. Skidoo, Cat or Polaris. I ride toe to toe with the M1000"s and the 800's cant come close unless theyre on the bottle or rockin a big bore kit. The only time a 800 out marks a 1000 is when its turbocharged. M1000 or RT 1000.
The 800 ARE lighter and easier to manuever in the trees, and they are better boondockers... but not comparible to a 1000 when highmarking.

The average 800rev is close to the average 1000 at highmarking. To bad most 1000 don't run the way they should, because the results would be as stated above.

yeah, got mine all dialed in and she pulls WAY harder then any of the smaller sleds, they are definately WAY easier to throw around in the trees, but now that mine runs like she should, lets just say my shoulders stay sore between rides from hanging on.

i cant wait to ride mine, in feb oh yea!!
I would like to know how you like the skid but I assume you hav'nt got to try it. I had an 05 rt and it was the biggest pos I ever owned. When the snow gets deep I've beat all sorts of 1000's on the hill with my 06 800. That is cat and ski-doo. A bunch of the cats even had slp 192 horse kits. That is without the bottle. If I turned the bottle on it wasn't even close. That 06 is the best sled I ever had. I put a ton of money in it but I deserved a nice sled after riding the 1000 all year. It even beat my buddies 1140 up the hill but i had to hold the juice longer than I wanted to.

I have had both and I agree with most tight tree riding 800, big hills 1000.
My 800 had a 30 hp shot of nos and still could not out do the RT on big pulls.

Now my Rt is 110 lbs lighter and has 195 hp.It feels very similar in power to my Nytro set at 10 lbs of boost.
