Silvertip's Playground (Highway 80/20/89/49)

Fun Ride In The Sun

We had a good ride today out on Grouse. HAULINDAVE, My bud Powder Hound and our good friend and riding partner Greg did a 60 miler today. And the OLD POL made the trip in fling colors. Scott lead the journey today and we missed all the track that Jeff Adams put our there Tue. Still no tracks up the Hour Grass. We were all the way back to Downey Lake when Greg's sled broke a chain. We packed a trail out to the lookout and Scott and I hooked on to it and were able to pull him out of a bad hole. Then back to the truck was no problem.

Avy slabs -- We seen a lot of small to mid size Avy slabs and run outs. The biggest was the climb up to the Lookout from the West broke off and came down. Went across the little lake and up into the trees. It was big.

Sunday's Ride ICY

Sno Junkie,
I hope you didn't have any trouble with the ice yesterday.

We rode the south side of I-80 again on Sunday with Bev and Chuck. And it was very ICY. We eat our lunch @ Mears Mdw and I used my avy probe to check the snow depth and I had a 7ft, 8ft and one 9 1/2 ft depth. Lots of snow @ 6800 ft on a North facing slope.

I sure hope no one wrecked and got hurt on the ice.

Monumental Ridge Hill -- Nice climbs on both the North and South sides

Hated yesterday's ride. No one got hurt or wrecked...but it was windy and very very icy. We headed over towards French and then decided Grouse was just too open and we need to be in the trees. Went east out of Fordyce to Paradise and found some great snow. Paradise chutes and are north facing so they were pretty good also.
Hopefully we can get together and ride soon.
I had to leave quickly from the disabled run and never got a chance to THANK YOU!!!! You guys are awesome.

Jason

Great ride! That little chute was a blast.......pullin it on the stock 700 was a rush! Some awesome scouting by Chad, some sweet cornice drops and step ups by Shane and Smashington (link to pix below) and just all round awesome riding for the day......I think Smashington was dropped on his head at birth or something the guy couldn't sit still to save his life! To top it off Smashngton decided to challenge the law of absolute physics and learned that to get up the frigging CLIFF he was climbing he needed enough diameter in the holes under his hood to accomadate the large black one on top of his shoulders....remember Smashington Bigger holes under your hood = Bigger Hills! But he pulled some ballsy stuff. I am sure somebody will pipe in with their pix but.........what a weekend! Great hookin up with everyone....can't wait to see "the video"........nice Smashington mobile man...........that is the Sh!t~ God what will he do when he gets that LOL

Pic. From 5 Mar

Here are a few Pic. from the ride I had with Jeff (Saltydog) above Cal-Ida. I forgot my camera so I did take any till we got back to the truck. Most of the hill that I used to climb are now all grown up with tree. :(

I'm a little slow on my Pic. But here are some from our ride on Sun. I rode with Powder Hound, Anthony, and the Nevada City Crew. Anthony had sled problums again and had to go in early. :( We didn't find all the powder that everyone else found because it was so wind blown. Had to be real carefull on the ridge lines and open rocky areas. But still had a good ride of 60 miles and few deep powder stuck where the wind had loaded it.

Cold Lunch Stop It was so cold that I had my coat on the whole ride ;)

Glacer Lake Area We climbed out and it was so ICY that we had to turn back.
