Rk tek 858 kit not working.. Det 7 code

i just skim read through this thread but i do not see where you state what clutching you are running in these sleds? i just shipped clutch kits out last week to a few guys in the Sparwood area if that's anywhere close to you? The dealer that sold them their kits told them they could run stock clutching.... NOT A CHANCE. please let us know what you are running for clutching and what elevation you are riding them at, these motors require a lot of heel weight to run right. I have 5 on the snow this year all running the fuel numbers that are most current on RKteks website and all are running good enough to exceed our expectations.

Our elevation at our local area (coquihalla summit) 5000 - 6500ft

Mine runs great there but last weekend in Sicamous it was hitting rev limiter.
I just need to tweak the clutching and I'm good.
Our other buddy same thing.

We called dealer today and they said all three sleds are 64.2 grams

Sleds are all running 94 octane Chevron

Zx is sending his back to dealer again to trouble shoot.

Keep sending us tips, we appreciate the help !!!

that weight seems light... what helix? what springs? stock secondary or tied?

we're pulling almost 70 grams with the roosters loaded heavy in the heel, 140-335 primary, 140-260 secondary and 62-42-40 helix at 4-7k feet

Stock secondary on all sleds, I have no idea on Helix or spring but i'll ask tomorrow and if there different would you recommend changing to your settings?

Why would ZX's be hitting Det right away at parking lot (basiclly ever time he runs it) and the other 2 are fine.

Dealer clutched all the same.

I very well could have messed something up on his sled but its pretty simple rebuild. Compression test on his is same as ours 140psi

Thanks

i would try more weight dive into that clutching its not too hard with a few tools
good luck

let it snow

I had the same issues until I loaded my weights up. kelsey had sent me a rooster kit that instructed to put 64 grams in. well I'm pretty sure that was for the drop in kit not the 858. it pulls 69g easy. my clutching is blue/pink primary and rooster weights. gonna order jkinzer clutch setup soon though

Whats really weird though is my sled hitting det 7 at 5000 rpm, so that would nt be hitting rev limiter would it? You guys still think add weight to mine even though det 7 at 5000 rpms??

Does it do it if you VERY SLOWLY creep the rpm up? As slow as you can...

These tachs are very slow to respond to actual rpm. If you're blipping the throttle, it may only be showing 5000, but actually at 8600 etc..

Like the guys say, load it with weight and try it, if the det continues, start through the long list of things to trouble shoot that's all been recommended.

Load them suckers up to like 70 or 72 grams and just see.... It's the easiest test, and highly likely your issue.

no 2 sleds are exactly the same, i have some stockers that can pull 64 gram belly busters no problem.... but the mid range rev limit gives false detonation codes. more weight is almost always the fix for that issue. these 858's are super torquey motors and can pull a lot more weight than a guy would think. if your running the rooster weights load them like the pictures below, this is what i currently have in my sled and down low (1500-2500ft) if i hammer the throttle mine will cut out out in the 5-6500rpm range due to the weight not being heavy enough for that elevation but its running like a top at 4-7.
in the Heel:
green fastener, tungsten washer, thin washer on each side
in the belly:
aluminum fastener and 2 thin washers on one side
overall weight is just over 69 grams (scale fluctuates back and forth 69-70, this scale only reads to the closest gram)

Kelsey has told me that he has a lot of guys running stock clutching with the only thing changed being the weights to roosters and set heavy in the heel, that set up works but switching to the 62-42-40 helix and h5 alloy springs will make it back shift better as well as less heat soak with the h5 alloy springs so a lot more consistency. i run 140-260 secondary springs and 140-335 primary springs and have had great luck with this combo.

You must have a heavier base weight to get 69-70 grams with that little bit of weight in them? I have 9 in the heel and 5.6 mid and 3.5 tip. On my scale it's almost exactly 74 grams. Yours should be 67.3 according to teams chart. That's light even for a stock motor at 1500ft.

where do you get 67.3?
56 gram base weight
3.5 gram tungsten washers (one on each side)
.5 gram thin washer (one on each side)
2.5 gram green fastener (one on each side)
.5 gram thin washer (2 stacked in belly)
.8 gram fastener in belly

add those up according to teams chart and you get 70.8 grams
and as you can see in the picture they weigh out at 69-70 grams on my scale

det 7

Do not un chevron fuel it is oxygenated fuel and it will not run right it can also have ehaol in it.Had a buddy that ran that fuel and it ran like crap switched to shell premium and it works great.Try running deffernt fuel and see what happens

I believe you are incorrect in this statement. At least here in BC Chevron offers the 94 oct with no ethanol. All my high performance toys run on 94 chevron and NEVER have I had a problem with it.

As stated about ZX...... Add more weight to your clutch. I run 64 grams in my drop in kit. My friend here is breaking in his 858 with 72 grams and we run at the same elevation as you guys
