Premium Membership worth $$?

Is it really worth it? Do you really get THAT many more features? Let me know what you think, and if you think it is, whats your favorite premium feature? Just curious...

I dont mind at all the price to pay is small for the use that I get from snowest.Best forum I have ever been on.

a bunch of buddies and I used to get together in my younger days to play basketball down at the park. did this for a long time and eventually enough people came and joined us that we could get a few teams together and have tournaments. we actually put a lot of work into making this happen and we had a lot of fun. can't imagine the day someone would have walked in out of the blue and said for $60 you can keep doing this all you want. there were many other courts to play on for free. I could see paying some of the old timers (ie: the tech guys and originals who put in all the work to make the site what it is) some cash for what they put together but for someone to just walk in out of the blue and say you owe me$ to keep doing everything you've been doing sucks to me. Oh, and if you backtalk too much on the subject your banned. ha ha, just can't swallow it. sorry for the rant, still just pi**es me off

I rarely feel left out, being a basic member. I have been on here long enough to miss a lot of the posters that left. I think some of them felt that their knowledge was being used by someone else for profit. I can understand why they felt this way. I am happy with snowest for allowing the basic memberships to remain free. Thank you! I have never once posted a complaint about them charging, as they are in business to make money. I still post to help others, and ask for help when needed. I might mention that there are some of us with slow net service, that would have less to gain from a premium membership. Hope everyone has a great winter!!

I think there are a bunch of us wondering if we will get a deal. Most of us 3 year guys bought in when this site first went to a fee instead of bailing. We should be able to get some kind of deal when going 3 to life...call it parole???

Come on Christopher...give us an answer.

Don't make us 3-year membership folks get all Occupy Snowest on your a$$. :boxing:

No, seriously, don't...

I can't wait to see your guys faces when you find out I'm getting a lifetime membership....

I can say that besides my non-sense and immaturity I have learned a lot of things. Seriously.

Easily worth the price they are asking. Anyone that complains about $30 is stupid and immature... I spend more in coffee and food in a day.

just paid in... already paid for it's worth by finding a good deal on hard to find rev. kit from a local sledder. can't beat that with a stick!

If SnoWest would donate all the profits from memberships to a worthy cause (BRC, SAWS, ect.) I would be the first one to pay for a membership. When the profits from a site that we, the members, make great just goes to line the pockets of someone who is already making plenty of money off of us from the advertising revenue I refuse to pay.

Not saying I spend that in a day...

I'm pretty sure you said you spend $30 a day on food and coffee, but we get your point.

What is the problem with making a profit?????????? It's called capitalism. Not socialism. Not to get all political or anything, sorry.:face-icon-small-dis

Obviously I think it is a great deal or I would not have signed. Thanks Christopher. Great site.:face-icon-small-hap

I find these threads, when they pop up, interesting.

If you are primarily a consumer of the information then its a fine deal to pay the subscription price. Although I think you can survive, as I do, as a basic member without missing much.

The whole issue that set people off and drove them away is that Snowest does not contribute much if any knowledge to the cause but wants to make their profit off the knowledge of others and charge them for it. Its the same issue I have with trade shows and such... the gun show comes to the local conference center and they charge me $10 to get in so that I can spend my money. You can agree with that or not, but that is the issue that came up. I understand that argument and agree with it. It for sure has affected how I approach my participation in the forums here.

Is what it is today worthwhile? Sure, I believe so. But no one who has been around here since before the charge change can honestly say that the info is as broad and complete as it was before. Still worthwhile though, sure.

I think you can survive just fine on a basic membership. Funny, but most of the things that we say you get with a premium membership are the social things that are available on other sites.

I also think that it's pretty ridiculous to charge people for using a forum...Imagine if you had to start paying to view wikipedia?! All information is provided by the user(s) similar to a forum.

However, you get 95% of the worthwhile stuff with the basic membership, and if anyone can't see past the 75 post limit and would like to see what is going on in that thread let me know and I'll help you out!

The ONLY reason that I paid for the premium membership was for the digital copies of snowest/modstock/sledheads magazines. Now I can still have access to all of the magazines without paying $6 a pop. If that wasn't the case then I feel there would be no REAL benefit to being a premium member. All of the other bells and whistles are very simplistic addons to a php style forum that anyone can get their hands on and are open-source.

This may be the best post I have ever read on this topic. Very well said.

I wish I could figure out how to tolerate reading the online versions of the magazines because from that perspective it is most definitely money well spent.

Other than the fact that they ARE digital and not paper, what is it about them that you find so intolerable??

How could we better present the digital editions to you??

You're very welcome Sam.
Glad your enjoying SnoWest !!

Dude, you're obviously monitoring this thread, so...what say you on the 3-year to lifetime membership deal?

My first post, the one you "liked", was an honest question. A lot of us original Snowesters have stuck around and paid the price that you figured was a good deal...how bout we get the good deal in return for being loyal customers?
