Polaris IQR Mountain chassis debate:

Anyone that is considering an IQR,should talk to one of the three really good builders out there.Winter,Brad, and Spank really do understand the problems with custom fabrication.Winter built mine, because I lack the skill and the time required to do it right. He will also build my next one.Angermanagement.I talked to Mike last week about that very same tunnel.I also had the pleasure of riding all of Shannon's builds this year. Each was different, motor, tracks, suspenions. But all shared the fit and finish, time and the great effort he put into them. And all where a kick to ride! With 4 different IQR on the snow on the same day,we found what we liked or disliked. Can't wait for this year's build!!!!!!!!

MTN IQr trenching

Forgot to touch on the subject of trenching. I have had a couple of guys tell me that all their IQr does is trench. A long tracked IQr using the stock race skid and extensions does trench more than a RMK style suspension due to the bad approach angle and high ski pressure, especially on the '05s. Swapping skids is the best way to fix it as is running a consumer front end to drop the front some. Running a Ucooler and removing the front cooler also helps with the tunnel clean out. Just some more things to think about when building a boon docker.

I found the same thing on my 04 ProXr conversion. It was a ton of fun but would not handle the deeper snow as well as the Edge RMK. Similar sleds but different intentions.

BTW, the long tracked IQR is the best looking sled ever built. I love them.

I've seen a few "hotshots" riding these things in the hills and they all seem like turds. I think it has something to do with the rear suspension and the high stance.

I'm sure if someone that knew what they were doing built one, I'm sure they would be fine. I've seen a couple though, with stock and the ez ride suspension and they just trench like crazy.

I'm also interested in what helps stock skid. Ice Age says their rails help with approach angle?
How about Ice Age rails and a 2 1/2''- 4'' setback? Or would that make things worse with ski pressure/weight transfer? I'm building a '08 IQR now, looking at running either a 136" or 144" track.

the trenching is due to the bad stock attack angle and super high ski pressure. I see alot of guys just bolt on parts and not pay any attention to suspension geometry and ski pressure. For a mountain sled, a 2" drop in front (at least) or and RMK /aftermarket front suspension is a MUST. I run an 08 RMK 155 Raw tunnel and rear skid on mine and it climbs better than its consumer counterpart due to the lighter weight. I also like being farther forward on the machine, it makes it feel lighter and more maneuverable.

The stock skid is bulletproof but HEAVY. Go on HCS.com and pm Tblade0123, he just did an IQr with 136 Iceage rails, a 2" setback and a 141x2. It seems to work well. Still not as good as running a straight up RMK or aftermarket mountain suspension due to the weight factor and it still has a harsher track angle. IMO the Iceage rails are the right way to go if you are going to blow big air in the backcountry. I have a set of their 136" rails milled to fit a 8" wheel with stock axle. SUPER strong. Your 08 will be 1" lower in the front but if you are going to run it in the mountains, you may want to consider a arms and spindles off of an RMK. Hope this helps. Craig

Just get an EZ-Ryde, i can get mine for $1000. If anyone wants one let me know!

They are both 151-155.

Auto, i was looking at your 900 IQr on hardcore sledder, i want to see this thing done! Hurry up already, jeez! :D:beer;

IQr's and new Raw Consumer same width

$1,000? Can you get EZ-Ryde skids for regular 155 RMK's for that Price?

The '08,'09 RMK raw and the IQr skids can be switched from chassis to chassis, with attention paid to mounting points. the tunnels are the same width. Edge chassis, however are too wide. Don't know about the 05-07 consumer rear skids, but the Consumer fronts all bolt up. There was some talk about the bad toe in at the locks while turning due to the IQr's steering rack being different than the consumer. Only at full turn left or right is there any toe in and it is less than an inch. I rode my stock RMK front out west and in Minnesota and it never was an issue. Craig

Can they even make them for that much? :o

I made the mistake of buying a cheap ez-ryde off this site a year ago. I was an ez-ryde, and it looked newer, but it was a pre-07 version and the rails were cracked. After talking to Ez-ryde directly, I found it was going to cost more to update and fix the old skid (It was a prototype from a race team) than it was worth. Lesson learned. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Angermanagement890 is pretty good at sniffing out the best prices/organizing group buys so you may want to ask him where he keeps buying his Ez-Rydes. I OWN U, if those two Ez-Rydes are truly 08 or newer with the updated design, new or used, that is a smokin deal. However, being the pesimist that I am, It sounds too good to be true.

Thanks Craig, that means a lot coming from cheap *** like you. :)

I OWN U, if you can get me a 08+ EZ ryde for $1,000 sign me up. But it better not be all clapped out.
