Polaris axys vs. skidoo 850 backcountry sleds

Bottom line is Polaris needs to design and build a new 800cc motor from the ground up. No more overbores thrown on top of a 440/600 powerplant in a mad rush (2008) to compete with the others.

Bottom line is Ski Doo needs to build a mountain sled from the ground up, not a trail sled sorta converted... No more trail sled steering, poor balance and outdated skid.

I haven't had ANY trouble with Polaris motors but that Doo chassis rides like crap. Doesn't matter if the motor is better, the ride is a joke compared to the Axys.

Rode with three Doos this weekend. Had a hot shot buddy come over to school me. He ate the crow as well... Couldn't ride the line in several different places.

You see what you see, I see what I see. Polaris hasn't given me ANY reason to switch, other than crap local dealers. I haven't been to the dealer all season though because my Polaris has beeeen so reliable.LOL

Another axys....2 of 4 doo riders in my group just got axys. We all spent time on the 850. I think the unknown of the new 850 has warded lots of guys off. Low number of these made means not a lot of part stock etc. if ski doo switches the whole xm line over to gen 4 things could be different but we all are gunna sit back and watch first. The axys has been proven mountain sled in our group... Ski doo needs to hit the tread mill and loose few more pounds and gain some things else were first!

All this sales talk is just that. This is what really happens when you meet a die hard Polaris guy and argue with him on snowest all winter and then tell him he can ride mine all day.

Looks like doo country. Hero snow and nothing technical

Yeah that's the weird thing about mid April for some reason it's not waist deep pow anymore I don't get it. Of course it's nothing technical or ever steep enough on video I actually get bored watching Burandts videos, funny thing is it was technical and guy totaled his Pro tryin to follow me and Metz that day. Best quote I've ever heard is Mike Metzger is Mediocre at best!!! I text him yesterday his new initials are MMM- Medicore Mike Metzger...After putting up my ad this year not one single Polaris got to talk one bit of $hit at the end of any day. Still lots of keyboard jockeys that don't get it but I'll be posting a new ad next fall with better incentives to make next year even more fun than I had this year with it Lmao. I'm trying to remember how many Polaris got wrecked from my post this year, I think only 6.

1500, it wouldn't matter what sled you are on, less skilled riders trying to follow a more skilled rider equals wrecked sleds. A couple hours on a well set up AXYS and you would be riding gnarly lines that others would wreck their sleds trying to duplicate. In no way am I knocking your sled of choice, they work well.
IMHO

I know but all these guys talk the talk at the beginning of the day or internet the weeks before, so if they are "so far superior" you'd think it would be that much easier for them. I just realized my neck is out of shape cuz I didn't have to look up at anybody this year riding this far insuperior Doo Lmao. P.S. Can't wait to come to MT/CA your way and I'm bringing MMM if he can make it!!

Ahh snowest...only place where a Polaris engine lasts 500 miles and a Doo engine that isn't built yet lasts 15,000

I have posted this elsewhere before but I will repeat it because it needs to be heard. In our group/area, the majority of sleds are Polaris. Nevertheless, the Doos that have been with us have broken down on the mountain more often than the Polaris sleds. This is noteworthy because there were many more Polaris sleds. One would think that even if the two brands were equal in quality, there would have been more broken Polaris sleds due to the higher number of Polaris sleds on the snow here. However, the reverse was what we have seen. I don't know why but I do know that I have participated in hauling out more Ski Doos than Polaris sleds over the years riding in Southwest Idaho. I think that the Axys is a much more reliable sled than the previous Polaris sleds too. The flatlander sleds with the H.O. motor have two seasons under their belts and there are no reports of catastrophic engine problems. Finally, the Ski Doo 850 may be a great engine but the chassis is still an XP which is an anachronistic design. The narrow front end, T motion and the flex track have helped but it is a band aid approach versus developing a totally new chassis like the Pro. The Axys is a second generation Pro chassis. It works very well. I am happy with mine.

all kinds around here.my last 2 rides seen 6 different pros were being towed out.no cats, doos or 1970 stuff.
i really dont care,just what i seen.good luck

One Axys went down in our extended group this year. It was determined to be a faulty oil line to the crank bearing that caused the problem. Warranty replaced the motor and he was riding again the next weekend. That is out of a whole bunch of Axys sleds in our group. It was not due to any of the issues that plagued the previous motor and it was deemed to be very rare. Carl's sells lots of Polaris sleds. I know everyone there very well. They did not see many problems with the Axys Pros this year. If there were endemic problems with the engine, they would have seen them. I will ride mine for another season or more. It ran great. I am running the original belt too. It was a "put oil and gas in it and ride sled" all season. The only thing that broke was a Ski Doo reversible scratcher which I still think is a better design than what comes on the Polaris sleds. I replaced it with another one. I had several seasons on the scratchers which I took off my previous Pro. I may have caught it on a tree branch or a rock which caused it to break. It was worn down too. I bought a new pair and replaced the other side too. I now have a spare for one side. They are pricey but a good design.

You know, I think a few more threads and we can figure this out.

Guys in the Polaris forum seem to prefer the Axys and guys in the ski Doo forum seem to prefer...well, the 850 I guess...even tho no one has ridden one or knows of its reliability or potential issues. So I guess they prefer ski doo no matter what they put out. So that tells you something.

Lots of people, hundreds of people have riden the 850. I bet just about every person that snochecked one got to ride one. Ski Doo spends alot of money getting demos out there and some get wrecked so they put more out. I rode it. I called multiple dealers testing to see if you could get a demo 174 axys but that was impossible that also has to tell you something. Not every ski Doo guy loves the 850 either or maybe I'm the only one.

(Almost) everyone who Snowchecked got to ride one prior to sc? I highly, highly doubt that.

Anyways...what I was getting at was...doo guys prefer the doo...Polaris guys prefer the polaris. I know weird right

Idk why you doubt it. If you wanted to ride the 850 this demo season it was pretty easy not to mention you could go to Revy and find one on any given day just about. If it's not true then a whole **** ton of people rode them that aren't buying them cuz like I said lots of people got to ride em unlike Polaris' demo days that doesn't exist. Davidoff was a hardcore Yamaha/Cat guy who went from a 155 Polaris to a 163 Polaris to a Stock Ski Doo this year and he said The Polaris won't do what the Doo can do. It's still on his Facebook if you want to read it. Pretty unbiased opinion beings that he never owned either brand really.

Just curious, how is the Pro / Axys chassis dofferent than the xp, xm or g4 chassis?

Doo guys saying the 850 is better, wow, that's a first? Lol
Let's get 5000 miles on that new engine on several sleds and see just how it is .

I'll take my Polaris chassis any day over any other brand.
