Polaris axys vs. skidoo 850 backcountry sleds

There are lines I take on the Axys that I NEVER would have tried previously. It raised my game substantially from the Pro. The Pro was a better sled than the XP by a LONG way. The Axys is two generations ahead of your XP. I seriously doubt it will pull the lines you can pull on the Axys. I have yet to see it from better machines and I ride with a gaggle of '15 and '16 Doo's including T3s. They hate trying to follow the Axys, I bet you would too.

Axys ain't **** I follow their lines on a fourstroke and go right on by when they power out

It's crazy how similar the 2 are when you start to compare....
A couple more days to order. I'll admit, I'm still on the fence.... Currently on a pro and luv it...
Thanks to all with all the good feed back on getting some actual comparison between the axys and the new doo.... I really wish I would have gotten to ride the doo just to compare for sure...

In 13 I was in the same predicament as you find yourself in right now.
I just for the life of me could not decide poo or doo so I let a coin decide. Been on poo ever since.

Any details on that test ride? :face-icon-small-hap

The sled itself overall is definitely nice. Visually speaking they did some very good things. I especially like the tunnel and looks to be strong.

The stance was actually very comfortable compared to other Skidoo chassis I have rode.

I liked the buttons for the heat grips and such but time will tell if the hold up. Also the Rev button seams as it will be ripped off but that is IMO.

The mountain bar was already broke off so was not able to test that out.

The power was nothing crazy but did have a strong linear pull through out it but did not see any big track speed difference from a stock Axys 800, more yes but only a few. It is a stronger engine but it is a 850 compared to a 800.

The price seams right as you get more CC from less money.

As far as handling it was still a ways off of the Axys chassis. It seamed to hold a side hill fairly well but still wanted to up track and had to fight it at times to keep it straight, nothing to hard but still there. With that said, from a side hill to I want to go straight up or heck turn around now... She did that quick!

Still has the ski twitch/wobble just cruising and at sometimes straight wanted to eject me but again it did not and maybe with much more time on it I would get used to it but there is not enough going on for me to want to.

IMO, the Axys is still a much more stable chassis and performed much better in just about every condition/area other than straight up but I would say the 800 Axys would get to the same spot but maybe just a sled length back at the end of a long pull.

Now for a boosted Axys compared to an 850? And I only say this because I had heard a lot of talk before being able to compare them about how they hang with them and actually out performed them at times. There was no comparison. At about 6000k feet it almost felt like getting on a 600, of course this is just a comparison feeling as no 600 could hang with it. Now this is just my boosted sleds and I can not speak for the other out there they have compared it to.

Final thoughts:
Best Skidoo chassis I have rode yet
Very strong motor
Still wont trade in a Polaris for it.

Also there has been a couple mechanical issues with the G4 that I would hope they will fix before the release or there may be some very unhappy people. Not that issues don't happen to all brands, it just I have not had any major issues on any other demo sleds I have seen.

Looks can be deceiving, the G4 still rides like a Skidoo XM. IMO it rode nothing like a Pro or Axys. It will be a great sled for skidoo riders and those use to how they ride.

Doo

I thought hard bout the doo but just got another new axys as it will be my deep snow w 3" silber turbo z bros shocks 36" front etc etc. me 16 axys w 5 lbs silber 2.6 will be my low snow spring sled and back up. Buddy just put 3000 miles on his w not even a spark plug change and 7 lbs boost from silber..... The issue w doo is only so many gen 4 850 will be made and this draws an issue when xm 800 is the generic chassis for them still, parts will be limited bc of the low amount of 850 vs old xm they still have. Yes it's side hills better than xm but still not like a axys and yes it's heavier still too. It sucks to buy a 14-15 $ k 850 doo then have to put the e motion and shocks to get it to Handel like stock axys. Just my two cents... I rode both in real terrain. I was close to adding a stock 850 to fleet but just isn't quite what I am looking for in mountain sled yet. 4 guys in my group rode it who all currently have xm and are buying new axys as we speak. Tomatoe tamato

Anything particular your are looking for?

Nice review. I was actually poking you a little about the slope you rode that sled on that may or may not have stayed in place. This is Tony, I was parked across from you at Arctic Man.

:face-icon-small-ton I know not of this slope you speak of??

Hahahahahah!!! Ya good times it was not but the sled did handle it, probably better than I did. Good meeting ya!

Similar to be sure but there are a few things that bother me about the Doo. Why torsion bars on the skid instead of coil over? Also, look at the attack angle of the track on the Doo compared to the Axys. It is going to trench more in my opinion. The other thing is the very light steering on the trail ends up leading to ski lift when climbing. Maybe you can fix that with the limiter strap and/or the preload and maybe you cannot. The videos that I saw of it in action made it look like it is unpredictable. Cool videos but I want a sled that takes a line and holds it. I am not sure that the Ski Doo does that as well as the Axys. Actually, I take that back. I am sure that it does not as currently set up. I am sure that guys will be able to tame it but it will cost money just like it does to make the Axys what you want it to be. However, stock to stock, I think that the Axys is a better sled.
