Polaris axys vs. skidoo 850 backcountry sleds

I rode an Axys for the first time yesterday. Stock 800 with 163 2.6 inch track. Motor seemed pretty good to me. Here's my first time riding one (second pull). Good motor...easy to ride...excellent transfer. This sled must be a hoot on boost. But, really impressed. Very light handling and predictable. I think it is important to understand that when i did that climb, the 660 i was riding most of the day had 3 burritos in the hotdogger, 2 steak and beans burritos and only one chicken chimichanga (which i think is difficult to argue that it is my favorite...but i could be wrong). During that climb, all 3 burritos were simmering from the hot pipe. My point is, sometimes the burritos are the best when you climb for a bit and then let them simmer. I think it difficult to argue im an amateur if i know that. Did i mention they were delicious?

If only you had went with brisket, southwest sriracha, and jalapeño jack in your burrito's, you would have heard that gawd awful clutching!!:face-icon-small-dis:face-icon-small-ton
 
what impressed me most about that climb - if you slow down the video at the 48s mark, you will see him reach off to the right hand side of the sled, open the side panel, and pull out the chimi... and I don't think he has a lefty throttle because you can see he had to swap hands on the throttle - very impressive indeed, but then FF to the 53 second mark and you will see him lift his helmet with the left hand (while still holding onto the chimi) reach back into his pack for the habenero sauce, rip the packet open with his teeth, cover the chimi and finish it before he crested the top. It's really an incredible move that I don't think any of our doo lurkers could pull off.

Good eye Perk! You are completely correct. As for how I kept the throttle open with no hand on it, I simply pulled the return spring off my throttle body and disconnected the safety switch...makes it easy to ride and relax...and snack on a chimi if need be (as you witnessed). Plus if I want to impress all the hot women I see everytime I ride, I can cruise by with no hands on the bars. Pretty sure that is still classified by some on Snowest as amateur however. Axyx sucks!
 
If we have Doo to thank, where have they been since 2011? Ummm, passed right up. My buddy with his 200hp M1000 always told me the same thing, until this year when I saddled up an Axys. NOTHING from 8 years ago compares, so keep dreaming. Anybody who has ridden one would have to lie to tell you otherwise. His M1000 just will not go the same places. Everybody works harder to keep up with the Axys, turbos, big bores, snowbikes...


What kind of dumb badge of honor is it to say I can do it, it is just harder? You can have that, and good luck keeping up.

Unfortunely I just cannot afford nor justify the cost of a new sled. To this day, I have NEVER been left behind by any machine or rider because I could not go where they were going. Infact, I've gone many places others have not with my old, out dated machines. So to say the old iron (XP) can't go the same place as an axys or newer sleds is just non sense.
 
Inspired by Doo, LOL. Ok , if you're gonna pot stir, at least make it kinda real. Cause the Pro chassis then the Axys was copied from the XP, bandaided of course , even made narrower in 17 , get real you must be mainlining the doolaid. Doo guys'll still be on a tank XP chassis if Poo and Cat hadn't made the changes in 11 and 12. Other than the etec, great motor, Doo is really playing catchup, and maybe doing ok in 17, we'll see.

I'm not trying to stir the pot, just my honest opinion, I guess when I say inspired by doo I mean doo was the first to come up with the triangular frame which really was a game changer, IMO, when Polaris came out with a a similar frame a year or two later(I don't remember which model) I said the same thing, it was pretty obvious.

Anyways, just my opinion, I enjoy hearing others.

I am an ameatuer, hotdoggers and deliciousness are something we can agree is good, tetonice doesnt know how to read wash or countersteer, one might consider a nice brisket in a hotdogger, mexican food is good and Scott is a great moderator who has the internet power of god but it has never gone to his head. And i think something about snowmobiles was mixed in there.
 
Back on topic-
Doo is a heavy pig. Don't believe me? Go weigh one and then ride it on setup snow and video and a nice graceful sidehill. Big fat dog that makes you tired at the end of the day. Doolaide nutswingers are so blind it ain't even funny. Oh yeah, I ride a doo. No nutswinging here.
Axys is nimble and light. For Trees and dangling, doo can't touch this.

I believe that is just your opinion jim, splashed with a bit of ancient SW history to make it seem real.

IMO,,, this thread pointed out that everyone outside the niche of skinny and light, is still swinging at the Poo but haven't quite made contact yet.

I haven't even swung a boot over an AXYS yet. Mostly because I promised myself to wear my '13 out before a change (something changed my mindset in '12 lol). So,,, I don't even want to know, at present. Old dawg still makes me smile though.

One thing Poo could use to entice me to get rid of the ol' steady Eddy, is a useful feature added to the gauge. That feature would be an advanced bluetooth noise cancellation button.
Since me and the sled are always close, I could push the button and activate it while internet sleddin'.
Tough to own a Poo on the internet. Good thing it's not the same in real life eh.

There are lines I take on the Axys that I NEVER would have tried previously. It raised my game substantially from the Pro. The Pro was a better sled than the XP by a LONG way. The Axys is two generations ahead of your XP. I seriously doubt it will pull the lines you can pull on the Axys. I have yet to see it from better machines and I ride with a gaggle of '15 and '16 Doo's including T3s. They hate trying to follow the Axys, I bet you would too.

Let me say I ride Polaris, the entire stable is Polaris but I still think the ('13-'16) Doo is a better production built sled (minus the TRA-7) as far as quality and fit and finish. But out on the snow, the Polaris is a better performing machine.

BUT, I can promise you that if you are keeping up or beating up XM's, Pro's, and Axys' on your XP, then the people you are riding with can't ride.
 
What kind of hotdogger on each of those? What were you cooking?

I don't believe that, and I do ride with people that can ride just fine.

Perhaps a better explanation is if guys need a newer, better, easier handling sled to get places I or others can get to on my old iron, perhaps they can't ride! :face-icon-small-hap

I tend to agree with Manx. Ya newer is almost always improved but most pro's, proclimbs and Xm/Xp can still do a great job. I have a buddy on a 2009 dragon that I can't keep up to, rider makes most difference.
