Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

No guys, you are not making me any more sad, in fact it helps. I may just go out and look for another best friend soon. Thanks for all the support and pics. Keep em coming...

I feel for ya don't know what i will do when my dogs go, sometimes they can be a handfull but it doesn't ever change the fact that i love them with all my heart. 14 years is a long life and you are very lucky to have had that much time with your dog, i am sure your dog served you well and you will miss him or her for a long time.

Sorry for your loss. Here's some pics of my buddy, Duke. He's a handful, but I wouldn't know what to do if he was gone

Not sure what to say, I just had a similar scenario with my Lab about 2 months ago. The loss of a pet is, well lets just say, IT SUCKS. I do have 2 dogs that have been very helpful in getting over he loss of my Lab, but Brooke will always have a very special spot in my heart.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss:brokenheart:

This is my dog Abby, she is a 2 year old Viszla. She has been the dog that has helped me get past the loss of Brooke. She is just awesome.

Sorry for your loss Miko. Hard to believe how much they become part of our lives. I've had dogs my whole life and would total a new pickup to avoid hitting one on the road. Here's my two goldens that come to work with me everyday.

Miko and Sturgis,
I'm so sorry for both your losses.

Losing dogs sometimes hurts more than people (for me anyway) because dogs don't nag or expect anything and there's that unconditional love. Took me 9 months to even LOOK at another dog without crying after I lost my Rottie I had 11 years. A year ago August we lost our 3 year old Border Collie cross to cancer (had her two years) and I still miss her, but we got another buddy for our other dog left behind and they are a great comfort when you miss the other dogs.

Funny how attached we get to the little buggers. If someone tried to hurt or separate me from my dogs I (literally) can't say what I'd do.

Bummer. It sucks to lose them.

I just went through it myself. Bailey was only 7. He'd had seizures for years so when he had one last week we didn't think much of it and put him out and went to work. Came home and he was wandering around in the yard with the "faraway eyes" that he always got after he had seized. Brought him in the house where he had one after another. After about an hour they just kind of ran together. Called our vet and he came to the house and put him down. Sad deal for sure. I'll never again take a dog to the vet to put them down, they should die at home.
