I will field/help/explain any question on the new clutch from having one in my shop, having the race manual and all the new tools to service...

No worries about dis information (DPG) my contacts with the race department, Goodwin performance and I just reached out to TOM to see what he has available to make the proper changes to the RS clutch and of course get a leg up on the new 850 -BJ:face-icon-small-coo

moving on...

the skidoo show is finally showing up in MN...

will get a few answers to a couple questions today...

verify-
drive shaft swap for new track (XP/XM)
piston dimensions
bore clearance for BB
factory port timing
factory squish
can mxz clutch get clickers added

again, if you have any technical questions about the new sled I will doo my best to have the answers-BJ

*not conclusive, looks the same but a different shaft-need one in hand to verify
piston dimensions
*very close, not way off like HO to R, a different base gasket will get the right deck height, piston pin measurement was difficult to get, since they usually are in 1 mm increments it should be a 21
bore clearance for BB
*oring groove to bore is .150" vs .130" on R so YES!!! a BB910/930 are possible
factory port timing
*not conclusive, didnt bring the right tool to measure, is different than 800
factory squish
*not conclusive since the motor didnt turn over, but looks very close to etec "step" in the head, I would say same/similar like .035"-.040" squish
can mxz clutch get clickers added
*yes, same clutch, just a wider weight with no clicker assembly, adding clickers/summit style weights will be easy
new track
*very soft durometer, may not be turbo friendly
helix angles?
*all 3 gen4 sleds had the same QRS set ups as 2016
ex valves
*cable operated/single cable, return springs on valves, big PLUS!!
muffler
*need to remove hood (6 bolts) to access/remove muffler
chaincase
*all new, new adjuster, new cover

again, if you have any technical questions about the new sled I will doo my best to have the answers-BJ

*release dates on some "new" parts roughly june/july-BJ

So was the old TRA was soooooo bad at transferring power from the pto that it could not efficiently transfer it to the track?
Love how the doolaiders reasoning of "the race dept has run these for years" assumes the new clutch must be the greatest thing since the Rev chassis. Clowns. I think the race dept loses a lot of races.

As with all sleds it is the sum of the parts, as technology improves we are quick to discount the older parts which is not needed. Like the new axys the new doo will be awesome but for many they are still having a blast on RMK or T3 or non t3 sleds. Improvements are great! The new sled from skidoo runs awesome for sure, but it is the sum of the parts, the motor, the new clutch and the 3.5 inch pitch which are the big parts, but also lots of smaller parts that make it rip too! Regardless of brand all sleds work this way, the important part is that you have fun so pick your machine and go riding, and have fun.

just adding to what norona said...

nobody said the TRA was bad, just that the new clutch (7 years in the making and multiple conversions/upgrades) and only 1 year on the race sled shows what it took to get better than the TRA...

IMHO, DOO coulda stayed 800 cc (new motor) add the new clutch, track, ex valves, chassis, exhaust, less weight and it would have been just as impressive!!

granted 10 extra HP is never a bad thing but now its 850 vs 800-BJ

This thread has been cleaned up because MountainHorse has some great information to start this out and some good dialog after that. I'm not going to let some petty back and forth ruin that information or this site any more then it has.

So those few (who know fully who they are) can go play some place else and if I see anymore BS in this thread from those people or any others that are good information threads I will just start handing out infractions or giving you a nice timeout.

OK

MOVING ON....

now if anyone wants any specific info/details on clutch please call, can send you pics or help explain differences-BJ

For continuing information on the P drive clutch sytem, regardless of the type of machine.

For those interested you can check out Steve Martin's Facebook page, as well as his instagram page, for some go pro footage of his last race this weekend . We dyno tested the P Drive before his race at Beaver Mt. using both the 960 ramps that come with the 600 RS, as well as the 965 summit ramp. We will be posting up more information once we have it all sorted out.

Last time tom we talked I understood the the tra race primary was still three lbs less than the p clutch.. Do you feel that there is a advantage on overall performance of p clutch over the tra race?. and turbo performance gains

Thanks

Ps.. I looked up Steve martins Facebook, only find the actor..

rs primary ready to run(no ring gear)11lb12oz
tra7 with ring gear 14lb10oz(no ramps though)
pb80 loaded with ring gear 11lb3oz
pb80loaded no ring gear 9lb10oz

The pdrive is said to be 2.7lbs lighter than Tra7, so that puts it very close to the race primary weight

The production 850 clutch will be a touch heavier than RS clutch so 12 lbs...

TRA7 is just shy of 15 lbs loaded...

RS TRA is 1 lb less from no ring gear and barely 1 lb less with machining of sheaves so its still close to 13 lbs...

So "round number" the Pdrive is still 1 lb lighter than RS TRA...

IMHO, the weight is kind of irrelevant, its the advantages of the "new" clutch design that makes it better-BJ

Any photos of the 960 & 965 ramp profile ?

For those that were looking at comparison of the 960 and 965, here it is.

Appreciate that Tom best thing I have seen so far ... It appears the 965 is slighty flatter from mid to tip ... would that be correct or am I just seeing things ? .... Put me down for a set of each let me know how you want paid.
