Paying to retrieve 2 sleds from Taft, MT area

Tyler is up there today, has Avalanche probe (thanks for the idea) and marking tape in case he finds them. Also packed the snowshoes and planned on spending the majority of the day looking. Last time he went down the wrong hillside, andrew went down the correct one but no luck. Hopefully Tyler has some luck since the weather has been better and he'll be able to mark them if he can't get them out today.

REALLY buried....

Not paying hourly, that's for sure, but Tyler sent me these pictures. There has been about 5 feet of snow since leaving them, it looks like they're staying in hibernation until the snow starts to melt. He's probed and dug but nothing. Too much snowfall has made locating them virtually impossible. I have offered to purchase a metal detector and try that way, but if he doesn't want to go and just wait, I'm not blaming him. It sucks walking and searching for something when you could be riding. I promise to take pictures of the recovery once it starts. I don't think with them being buried, that there will be any damage when it's time to go back up. More snow is hitting over the next few days, for now, I have to wait. :face-icon-small-dis

5 feet?

IMO, That much snow will crush the hoods, tear the seat and blow out the shocks after an extended amount of time (weeks growing into months)

I've seen hoods and roofs of vehicles with 5' of snow that couldn't bare the weight.

Make it 10 feet on a snowmobile hood, seat and shocks...and you get the idea.

Double that 5' of snow (it's just January) and add the spring snow that has higher water content and you will get the idea.

I left a sled on the mountain for a week years ago, it snowed 3 feet while it sat there, I was worried about finding it but the 3 feet piled on top of seat and hood but left the sides of hood exposed, and the pile of snow looked just like a snowmobile, the snow is not going to be level over the sled no more than it is level over logs and rocks, should be able to see them if you get close

True, I agree with that.

BUT then again, when the wind comes up it tends to even out all the humps in the snow.

Think of those really big logs rocks and boulders that get covered and invisible after the depth has piled up enough and moved around by the wind.

I would still rather try to find them when I can and see how they are. I didn't think about the snow having a big enough impact to destroy the shocks (wanted to upgrade to raptors anyway I guess), Plastics are always replaceable, just hope for little damage and easy recovery. Tyler probed a few areas that looked like possibilities and dug as seen, but I agree that unless I'm there or maybe if my dad can go up next month, it's hard to decide what to try to dig and what not to dig when you may not even be that close. No response on using a metal detector but once again, a storm is hitting the area and likely another foot or two piled on top. To be continued....

As the Track Turns......for the worse. Maybe some one in the area will find them soon..metal detector not bad idea..
Seems as though area is not over run, a little out of the way?

Basis for another reality series....

Sledwrecks....Found Mtn. Doo

hell probably best thing on t.v.!

Well I can safely say they're buried under enough snow that someone could probably ride over them. The area really isn't ridden that much, it's off the normal path taken by most. It's just always been a place where we could find fresh snow and boondock. I won't be sending anyone up until I can be there to help.
