Paying to retrieve 2 sleds from Taft, MT area

This thread is a trip.

Unless there is a logging road nearby....would waiting till spring be plausible? IF they are in steep, treed terrain without nearby road access...sounds damn near impossible to get out without snow....no?

If you guys need some bikes to come help look pm me. May save a lot of time and effort if we can just canvas an area in a matter of a few hours.

Good point - I would think that they should wait and go in when the snow starts to melt and ride them out.

well they are ski-doo's and I assume they are yellow . so I think Bigfoot thought they were banana's and ate both sleds..

Sledded Canada today and came through the Patterson border this evening. The customs guy that I had is BRP's buddy and was with him when they left the sleds. Said he is going up tomorrow with the orginal GPS with Andrew in hopes of having a successful retrival. Seemed like a really good guy! Wish them the best of luck!

So far it's looking good....

I upgraded my account so I was able to read the posts (pretty funny about the Yeti eating them and Christopher holding them Ransom since I only knew who you were talking about 30 seconds after my confirmation email). Last time they planned to go up, there was a damn storm and dumped on the mountain so they couldn't go (only time in my life I HATED a snow storm). They're on the way up there now, Tyler has my GPS, knows where my dad and I were riding, and sincerely hope they find them. As far as insurance, I have not called them to even discuss the event because I really had hoped they would have been out before all the snow hit. If they find them, I'll be happy. If they don't, I don't even know where to begin to describe this to someone all while telling them I'm not even in the country. (Pretty sure red flags would pop up and all I'd hear is ahhh huh... SUUURREEE... just like some of the posts on the thread here) So, I will hope it's all done with by the end of today :whoo:. Definitely a "Post pics or it didn't happen" so I'll be ready to upload when I get them or let everyone know if they once again had to call No Joy:horn:. :frusty:

After the fact but I always have a small roll of orange surveyor tape in my sled.....string up about 50 feet of it in a nearby tree, saved my backside finding stuff hunting a few times ect. good luck getting them back !!

I always have some when hunting so I'll make sure to bring some next time, just in case. Would have made this MUCH easier.

Tyler went up with Andrew, GPS is not correct, I'll take the blame for that one, and after talking to Tyler, he thought I said we dropped down 1 clearing down from where I actually had... so he spent a few hours in the wrong area. Andrew got some money for attempting 3x now, again, not sending people out there for no reason on a wild goose chase. Tyler said he would try again and in the right area when he is able to and at least mark them if he finds them and can't get them out the same day and if needed, I'll call Andrew again if he's willing to go after them ONCE they're actually located (I'm sure he's not happy about not finding them more than I am). My dad is doing physical therapy and there's no way he can sled that area... Andrew can attest to that. It's not an easy hill and impossible with an injured shoulder. So... here's where it stands I guess... waiting for Tyler to go up and locate them, then either he can get them out or mark them for Andrew. Sorry everyone, I was hoping for good news.

I hope you get your sleds.

Interesting to learn about the way a GPS works

Wow I like it you have snow.

Any rideable snow levels are nil here and there has been less than 10 inches of rain the past year for most of the riding areas here.

Down here it is the driest in recorded history. Temps been 80 plus highs most of last week with high 70's 80's for next wee. .... NO RAIN IN ANY FORECAST
Biggest storm was 10 DEC and was less than a foot

Tell you DAD to get well soon!

Thank you for your service.

Thanks.. I don't really want to have to wait until spring, so I hope Tyler knowing the right area now will be able to go back and locate them. If not, I'll keep the thread active until I can bring this to a conclusion. I would love to be home to enjoy the snow, but it's now in the 60's here. I have been extended until March 30th, so if not found by then, I'll be up there as soon as I'm home.

Seems to me, you know the area well enough, that you could find the general area on Google Earth and then give the Long/Lat to these guys? (Or maybe they do know the general area to look and it's just too thick?)
:pop2:

Yes, sent topo and satellite pics but unable to actually locate them. It looks different with 4 new feet of snow and I hope that Tyler, knowing to go 1 more clearing west, will have some luck next time.

Nice to see fellow sledders help you out.
We have left avy beacons with sleds when we had to leave them and expected a storm before retrieval. Still need to know where to look but makes it easier to find under massive amounts of snow.
