I was in this same situation a year ago with one of my good riding buddies. I went to his wife and told her that I knew and because they had kids, she needed to talk to him about it. I told her that I would give her 3 weeks grace to handle it on her own. After that, I told her that if she didn't talk to him about it, he was going to hear the whole story from me. She didn't say a word so put me in a position where I felt he needed to know. That's a hard conversation to have with a friend. After that though, we are way better friends and I gained a lot of respect out of him.
You did the right thing.
Back in the mid 80s when I worked at this hospital, my ex-sort-of-friend (a redhead), who worked in the same dpt as me, would get these calls from this guy she was boinking who worked upstairs in X-ray. I'd hear her planning specific days they could meet and her end of the steamy conversations. Didn't pay much attention until I'd answer the phone at times and recognized his voice. He used to play for the New York Giants and was this BIG muscly black dude with a very distinctive voice. I thought, "Gee that's strange because he's dating so and so (also a redhead) upstairs who works in X-ray with him and I just heard her say they had just gotten engaged."
Now what?
I didn't have irrefutable proof, so asked my friend if she knew redhead #2 and she said yes. I asked redhead #2 if she knew redhead #1 and she said no, so I said to her "I think your fiance is seeing redhead #1..."
So #2 confronts Danny, and of course he denies it and then calls ME and bawls me out (didn't deny it, just got mad at me). So redhead #2 believes the **s and marries him anyway. And redhead #1 is no longer my friend (good riddance. she didn't deny it either). And I'm on all three of their s**t lists.
For awhile I thought "I'll MYOB next time" but I did her a favor to let her know what a jerk he was and it was her choice to marry him anyway. And one of the older, wiser women in my dpt said us sisters needed to take care of each other (girls' version of bros before hos).
I'm sure she's figured out what he's like by now and wishes she'd listened. I would really hate someone who knew and didn't tell me. I don't like looking like a fool, when everyone knows but me.
Now that I'm a lot older and have thought about how to handle it differently, I should've probably gone to my friend and said knock it off and told her I'd tell #2 if she didn't stop, but knowing her, she prolly would've just hidden it.

you are in a tough spot, but you really did the right thing. You might suggest to him some of those little hidden cameras that you can put in picture frames or stuffed animals. It would be good to have in the event of a divorce.

Dude if i were you i would have just totally ignored it and pretended it didn't happen, play stupid and just assume it was some sort of error. I found out a girl was cheating on one of my friends and some how or another i lost both of them as friends, neither of them will talk to me, and they both broke up.
