New Ascender Platform and 800 Ctec!

Weight is a big deal to most ppl, because pulling a sled over on its side in the showroom really matters right? NOT
The cat hides its weight pretty good and for myself out handles most other brands I just prefer the handling and ergos on it, but the 2 inch forward foot position is going to greatly help the narrow panels are a huge plus had that to a new ctec engine. All that with some weight loss, and we got a home run i believe! I've been reading 15lbs, isn't much but add a can and a belt drive and your into almost 30lbs over the 2017. If it's more then 15lbs great bonus!
Cheers guys we got a winner they are listening!

Spark plugs

The motor pics on page one show 1 spark plug for each cylinder.
Is that a 600 or is there only 1 spark plug for each cylinder on the new 800?

Still looks like might be room for a bigger motor in there. I'm an 800 guy, but why wouldn't AC use the real estate inside that huge front end with a 900 triple or 1000 twin?

Weight is the most overrated feature in today's snowmobile world. Get your head out of the sand and learn how to ride.
Stick a 45lb chunk of lead under your hood for a day, then tell me that.

Are there other changes that may be more noticeable? Absolutely. Does weight matter? If you dont think so your absolutely wrong, or you like trail rides and The Talk :face-icon-small-sho :face-icon-small-win

I couldn't disagree with that statement more!!! I dropped 45lbs off my proclimb and it felt like a completely different sled.... thought it might of been in my head, let my other buddies ride it, they all agreed.

Looks like Cat has the sled to beat for 18! Hopefully they will have some out for demo's. Will make next season a long one for those of us who buy in the holdover world but would really like to try what I'll be riding in 2019:)

Will it make a difference? Yes. Is it overrated?Yes. Everything taken into consideration...weight sales sleds....more then reliability, performance, handling, HP..etc. I have two sno scoots for my kids. They are light but you don't see adults out riding them in the mountains. Why? Because there is more to it then just weight.
"Placebo Effect" is a real thing (it has been proven) and I've seen it several time. You can put most people on a sled and say good things about it, like weight, hp, handling..etc. Psychological they think they're riding something good...this effects their opinion. Do the same thing but tell the them the bad things about the sled. What happens? Usually they're not impressed. That's life. "Placebo Effect" "Bias" is as real. We all know that....just read forums is my proof of that.

So very true, I always say if Burandt told the Poo faithful to put peanut butter on their tracks because it will climb better the only thing they'd ask is plain or chunky;)

As long as the sleds are close in weight the difference isn't that noticeable, but they need to be close. My 16 feels as light as the Axys when riding, flicks from side to side just as easy and holds one ski even better.

Pricing actually seems very reasonable.

sno scoot?? really?? bahahaha.... lets compare apples to apples. my bro in law and I had the same sleds, mine had a headlight delete, belt drive and a can. so no really big performance, hp adders, belt drive a little bit... it was night and day to everyone who jumped from one to the other. those mods would be the difference of about 30ish lbs. it makes a difference!!! don't get me wrong, I love how I can pound on my cat and not worry about arms coming unglued or tunnel ext folding. I would rather it be that way, but to say weight doesn't matter..... go ride a t-apex or viper thru a super tech spot for 10 mins and you'll be done.

Thing with the proclimb is there is a ton of weight to be lost WITHOUT sacrificing durability or reliability. Like a full 40lbs worth.

Well, considering that Cat is the only one talking about 2018's, I guess they're currently the sled to beat :face-icon-small-hap From the photo's and spec sheet, looks like a decent sled. Love the color! I think the green has been over done. Time will tell with regards to the motor. Just like all the rest of the Big four, first year seems to always have bugs. Hope it's a home run for Cat.
