The sad thing is the girl didn't make her own opinion she was forced fed by her dad. To her all she knows is what her dad tells her. It would have been better if she formed her own opinion and thought for herself before acting like that in class. The planet is getting warmer over the long average which is the most important not what happened last year compared to this year. Who knows who or what is causing it but the fact remains the earth is getting warmer just look at Glacier National Park, it is going to loose it's name in a few more years, or exit glacier here in AK and far it is receeding, which means it is warmer longer than normal. I bet the people in Washington are wandering how there are floods in Jan., how about the people in MT that were crying on how it is raining right now and all the snow is gone, do those people think it is normal to rain in Jan at elevation?

i suspect alot of the ignorance comes from a midwestern train of thought, where the minds are closed way to often and there eye's are not viewing what is actually going on with our weather and changing climates right now..

yes, its January and flooding in record amounts right now in Washington. extreme changes in weather are caused by something, global warming? the gods farted? what? and i'm pretty sure we as in the world are in an extreme weather swing right now that seems to only be getting more extreme each year.. what does this mean? i can't say its global warming or an ice age or anything really, but things are a mess out there, anyone can look outside and see this for themselves as well as think for themselves..

And the glaciers were hundreds of feet thick covering all surrounding rock. Now the glaciers are so small compared to a thousand years ago that I am confident in saying that all the exposed rock and ground are radiating much more heat melting the much smaller pieces of ice left.

I have an excellent teacher for my college bio class, and we went over global warming one day. Yes, technically the earth is a bit warmer right now, but for all we know this is a normal earth phase. The earth has been around for millions of years and the amount of trustable data on temperatures only dates back a few hundred years. millions vs. a couple hundred years?? I agree with you JohnnyQuestUtah, if global warming really does start happening we wont have to argue about it. Yes we should do our best to keep the earth clean and healthy, but there is no solid evidence to prove that hell is breaking loose.

And a word on the teacher. Any knowledgeable teacher when talking about a subject that is not clearly defined should give both sides to the story and give their opinion at the end of the lecture, that gives the class time to form their own opinion.

Not trying to start a argument over opinions, but to here my wifes 81 year old grandfather that has lived in West Glacier most of his life describe what the glaciers looked like when he hiked around the park and the pictures in his house look like compared to what I have seen there is a pretty definate answer for me, and to hear him say how much it has changed in his life time is also another answer. I lived in good ol'hippie town missoula for 6 years and skied all around the park in the summer as well as in the winter and I can tell you things have changed from when I first skied there and the last time. When I moved to MT I had now opinion at all and did not even consider global warming because I lived in Texas and it was like hell there all the time so I thought every where was like that, boy was I wrong. Now in AK, hike to some of the glaciers and on the trail you will see signs of where the glacier was, I saw one sign from 1990 and we still hiked another mile to get to edge of the glacier. Talk to one grey hair and he told me the glacier's edge was right where a visitors center now sits in 1975. I just try to make my opinions from what I learn and what I learn from people much older than me, when a elderly man or woman starts to talk I pull up a chair and shut up, maybe more people can learn a thing or twenty this way.

Check back in 3 to 5 years. I'll bet the glaciers will be growing again and bigger than you ever remember. The Climate is cyclical - but is used by the LEFT as an agenda.

Much like the LEFT uses the theory of macro-evolution as an agenda to push constructive thinking out of schools. The LEFT is the reason our country is suffering. Their agenda's keep us so restrained that it's no wonder so many of our local manufacturing jobs are being sent to countries like China that could give a RIP about pollution, the environment, etc. (Ironically, the same LEFTist restrictions that push our jobs overseas cause MORE pollution than they would if we kept them here in our own country). I've been to China too - so don't give me some PC answer how they're so great. WE punish ourselves with stupid programs like the Kyoto Protocol and EPA BS that just makes the LEFT "feel" better about themselves. I'm all for taking care of the environment and respecting creation, but i'm not for bowing down and worshipping the environment nor am I OK with putting unnecessary restrictions on ourselves (totally based on THEORY) just to feel better when i sleep at night. These LEFTIES are the same people that would strap themselves to tree to save it, and then get an abortion the next day. Really??? I see the real agenda here - TOTAL SELFISHNESS BY THE LEFT.

PS - Freak - nice work with your daughter. My wife and I just had our first (a daughter) three months ago. She will be brought up to respect others, but to always stand up for what she thinks is right. She is welcome to always respectfully argue with my wife or I in our parenting as well. She might not get very far, but i will always listen to her. I'll teach her to stand up in school when they teach THEORY as fact too. I was taught this way my father, and i will teach my little girl the same way.

It does not matter if you agree with the global warming theory or not....sooner or later your daughter will have to be open minded enough to sit through a lecture on topics she may or may not believe in. And if she ignores it or acts out (disrespectfully) she might fail. Freak, if your daughter is college bound, she will have to react differently in this situation to be successful. That does not mean that she has to agree....

It is the point that as far as I know the "global warming" deal is not a definite scientifically beyond a doubt proven fact. So it is only the teachers belief and opinion that it is happening. Teachers K-12 I feel should only be teaching solid facts and not there opinion and/or beliefs. Kids are impressionable at these ages. And I also believe that 99.9% of the people that are convinced that it is occurring believe that fossil fuels are directly involved with it. Knowing from experience, my niece came home from school a couple years back(6th grade)
and was horrified that the end of the earth was coming because of man made global warming. Made her sick and missed the next couple days. She is a very smart 4.0 student if that matters.
And yes I guess it is my "agenda" to voice my opinion on this thread as I love to partake in powersports,hunt,fish,drive a vehicle to where I want to go,have a warm house in the winter, cool in the summer,make my living in highway constuction......etc. And pretty sure that all this is all on the "greenies" kill agenda on global warming. I support the girl in her decision.

Im too busy enjoying the winter to argue with people about whether or not global warming is a lie. I think it is and so do most on here. I hope you are proud when your daughters march with the gays for prop 8 or vote for Obama. I personally am proud of mine for standing up for what we believe in as a family. Right or wrong its what we believe and she stood up for us, that makes me proud as a dad. To say Im force feeding my daughter shows me you know nothing of parenting and raising a family. Also imprettysure that since 99' we have had some of the warmest summers on record. There are also two polar ice caps. The antarctic ice cap has remained basically the same size, while the Arctic ice cap has shrunk to its smallest size, in recorded history. Cause unknown.

I try to always be open to information, opinions, and theories. I believe in global warming, and i've been living through one ungly coldsnap here in Alaska. well i see this is a pretty heated debate. seriously though if you think that we as in humans can play god and warm or cool the planet is a pretty laughable. I mean come on, all the carbon we put into the air is making the earth warmer and buy your carbon credits, go green, save the polar bears that swam to that piece of ice, please.

the earth has huge cycles, even 80 years isnt even close to seeing a 1/3 of a cycle. Because if you could talk to a person, if any were around, right when lake missula broke through its ice dam and made the scab lands, the glaciers would be a lot farther down then just the visitor center.

but anyway I might have been misinformed on the, i'll call it, "theory"; but the cooling fact is true. Look it up. When Mt. St. Helens blew, i cant remember how many tons of carbon and the like were scattered all over the world, but it actually cooled the earth for a short period, because the carbon and what not block the sun light and since we are heated by the sun, I think a lot of people forget this interesting tidbit, that it also reflects heat so it cools instead of adds heat.

if I can find the report from the scientists I'll post it, but if someone can find it first great, but the report said that with recent volcanic activity we will have a cooling period, i would go as far to say as a mini ice age, but cooling. There are a million ways to knife fight each other over this, but i THINK us trying to control mother nature is broaching on gods ground. When did humans get so proud think that we could try and basically control the weather?

Now this is all opinion on this part but i think species have been terminated because of the LACK of ability to adapt. the earth is going to do what the earth is going to do, and as stated before we are still just barely even a blink in the worlds eyes. the earth warms and cools at its free will. we need to adapt to it.
