My daughter made me proud today

Her science teacher tried to teach the class about Global Warming as if it was fact. She and her friend told him they believe its a lie. He showed a video and she ignored it and talked to her friends during it. I told her I dont support her acting up in class but she has my full permission to get in all kinds of trouble if that happens again. btw she is a 4.0 student. I told her I would pay her $20 to wear my "global warming is a lie" Tshirt in class tomorrow.

That's what every teacher wants to hear! Go ahead and disrespect and disrupt the class by talking in class! Your little darling should of had detention or sent to the office by doing what she did, I'm all for debating a point of view but by ignoring the video and talking in class during the video is just plain disrespectful to the teacher and the rest of the class that may have wanted to watch the video. If the shoe was on the other foot and your little darling was showing a video about how global warming is a lie and the teacher was talking to the rest of the students and being disrespectful to your little darling I'm sure you would head right down to the school and demand the teacher be disciplined! Global warming is not a lie it is fact!!!!! The only thing that should be debated is, What is causing global warming? Is it a natural cycle? Or is it caused by man? I do not have the answer to those questions and nobody else does either. You can twist the facts to support your belief no matter which side you are on.

I am a 9th grd school teacher Freak(really) and i'll add $10 to the pot because it's funny. Just make sure she is respectful and polite. It already sounds like she is!

The problem here is she wasn't respectful and polite by talking to friends during the video. And to have a parent tell a child to go ahead and get into all kinds of trouble isn't being respectful and polite.

I told my kids what I was taught in grade school in the early 70's, that diesel fumes, coal smoke, gas guzzling cars, pollution, blah, blah, blah,,,,, was going to cause the next ice age and we wouldn't survive. Freak, you can tell your daughter that there is a group of scientists that don't believe that the earth is going to get warmer, but actually cooler. The average Earth's temperature actually decreased about one degree over the last year, due to the lack of sun spots. (Yea I'm kind of a nerd but it involved the posibility of more snow so I paid attention!) Some believe that we may be heading towards a mini ice age as early as ten years. It is all theory, but hey, as a sledhead I love the thought of more snow

Tell her to do some more research on the fact if she is truly passionate about it, and then present it to her teacher. As a guy who is in the process to become a teacher, I would respect someone who actually puts in the time and effort to disprove something that I have told them. It is all apart of the learning process not only for students, but teachers as well.

Again, it is all theory, just as global warming is. If a teacher is teaching it as it is fact, that is unfortunate especially in science because a large portion of it IS THEORY.

The Global warming scam is in a big part responsible for the economic crisis we are in right now, it is stiffling American production and sending energy costs through the roof. I teach my children this and they understand it.

If my daughter talks with her friend during a movie about how they don't believe the film they are being forced to watch and she tells the teacher that they do not believe what is being shoved down their throats, they deserve detention? What if they were showing child poorn? Or murder videos? Or teaching the kids to worship satan? Would you want your child to remain polite? Huh, Nazism comes to mind for some reason here. In essence the problem she had is that they were teaching one side of it and they were teaching it as science and not theory. There is just as much proof that there is global cooling as there is global warming and they DONT teach that side at all. You are part of the reason this country is in trouble and youth like my daughter and her friend are the hope of the country. The fact that they opposed it and made a stand and somewhat disrespected the movie caused other students to realize that there are those who dont believe it, thus by seeing the other side they will make their own decisions about it. And something tells me they walked out of school today and stepped in the 12 inches of snow and thought twice about what they were taught. Otherwise they would have simply believed what they were taught as scientific fact. My daughter is anything but disrespectful and rude, she is an office aide, she dances 20 hrs a week and is a recurring 4.0 student. She simply made a stand to show the teacher that you cant just teach one side of a theory and get away with it. she and others like her are hope for this country.

every time im in science/advanced bio and they bring up globalwarming, i bring up global cooling back from the 70's and ask why the same exact " experts" went to the polar opposite of their suposed facts from 35 years ago.

I firmly believe in Global Warming, or at least climate change of some form; here's why.

When you reside in the mountains and annual snowfall ranges into the hundreds of inches and average temps are in the mid teens, it's not overly obvious when snowfall levels drop to say 250 inches annually and temps warm into the upper teens or even 20s or whatever.

Now if you live in KS on the other hand, where the average used to be maybe 15-20 inches annually, and for the last decade that average has ranged from 2-8 inches, it's obvious something is changing. Not the mention all the rain in Dec and Jan that a decade ago would have been snow. When you're right on that threshold, it's much more obvious.

Kind of like you lower the water level in the ocean by a foot, not a real big deal. Now you lower the water level in your bathtub a foot, and you're sitting on dry ground.

I think the question isn't whether GW is real, but is the cause anthropogenic. That's my opinion but I'm always open to new ideas.

Good on your daughter for thinking critically.

I would be interested to hear the teacher's response had your daughter requested that she present to the class the other side of the evidence and then let the class form their own conclusion without the bias.

Maybe even something to bring to the principal's attention.

I take offense to that for one reason, I drive a subaru that is all rusted out that i bought for $475 bucks, no more puttin miles on the good pick up just to run around town. Was thinking about building a rack and ramp so i could park my sled on top. As far as the rest of your comment spot on. Al Gore and all the tree huggers can jump off a cliff as far as Im concerned. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the earth has weather cycles. Just go ask the oldest person you know they'll tell about years of warm and drought and years of cool and wet.
