More hillclimbers needed this year!

I think I'm going to do the Hillclimb this year. The thing that sucks is that I'll have to compete in the "Mod" class as I have a ported 840, but I've never competed before an am only a decent rider.

Usually engine class sorta equals experience too. Any thoughts Doug for a newbie racing in the Mod hillclimb class? How many times do you get to run the course before the actual event?

I think I'mm going to run the Nytro. Does a different rear suspension and track take you out of the stock class?

With a differnt skid you should be in the mod class but they are pretty flexable and will let you run in the improved stock class. There was a nytro at valdez this year with a differnt muffler and he ran in the improved stock 600 class. Fore everyone that missed the valdez hillclimbs this year it was a good time had by all. There was plenty of crashes and 4 or 5 turbo sleds showed up this year and {remmy and his friend }put on a good show.

If they have an amateur class, that would be a good place to run. Valdez had one this year, they were all under 17. Is the rest of the sled stock?

The 2008 Valdez Mountain Man Hill Climb is finished!

1st off the weather was awesome! Blue Bird the whole time event, except for the days before the race when the wind blew over 50mph making one of the most difficult hill climb courses because of the hard crust on top (yes, I am starting my excesses now). There were still miles of hills, bowls & valleys that weren’t affected by the wind with excellent deep powder. The City, Club, “Spook”, volunteers & sponsors put on a great event this year. It was great meeting more people from Snowest out there!

a few results:

The Valdez snowmobile club should be posting official results soon so I will just touch on the riders that “I” know are on Snowest:
James Wade was killing lots of people on his stock 600 and surprised no one by winning several classes including “Stock King of the Hill”. He is a great sportsman & we are trying to get him down to Jackson next year (any sponsors out there??).
Matt Smelcer 111 of Snow Cross fame took some impressive 2nds on a short track!
Craig Woods took some nice 2nds for Arctic Cat.
Stanley Hendrickson’s sleds were really fast, that must be why he goes by “Str8UpAK”, and placed in several events. That’s why he races at Jackson.
Marty & Mike Mobley (Father & Son) were making some good runs, Marty won 800 stock on a Dragon 800. Mike is following in his dad’s shoes & we will see more of him.
Doug Machado left no doubts how he got his nick name “Dangerous Doug” riding his mod 700 Dragon like a mad man winning the 700 Imp, 700 Mod class & giving Johnny Wick a serious run for his money with 700cc motor in the 800, 1000 & 1500 classes taking many 2nds!
Johnny Wichman was in usual form killing everyone including me (John you should be ashamed of beating me on my own sled in the 700 class). Wick riding his 800 Dragon went on to win 800 Imp, 800 Mod, 1000 Imp, 1500 Mod, Imp King, Mod King and 2008 King of the Hill.
I was getting tired just watching these guys battle it out as I recovered from a couple crashes. (Yes, I got some good prayer time in while screaming down the hill on my sled) There were lots more winners that will be posted on the Valdez snowmobile clubs web site hopefully soon. Again this was a really fun event & the back country riding there is sick. Just don’t try following Remmy on his Turbo, Johnny or Doug while they are ripping up rocky shoots... these guys are past my abilities and B*(($. And I am ok with that; I have already put my surgeon’s kids through school. Thanks everyone for a good time!

Awesome time down there with great weather. Was great meeting some new fellow riders and good to see similar faces from last year. I've got pics I'll post later when I can get some time, those hillclimb racers amaze me with their riding skills, top notch and put on a good show. Even had a decent amount of carnage this year....sorry :D

The Impulse Nytro turbos were looking good as well. Next time I'm going to have to hop on one and try it out. And finally, Got to give props to D_Edge on the M8 Turbo....That thing is sick and it's great to see someone pioneering into the 2-stroke turbo world. Just keep your hand off that boost controller LOL.

Will post later with pics.:beer;

Another nice spring in Valdez. The snow was pretty set up but still got to climb some nice chutes. I did good and didn't crank the boost too high this year :D Next year she'll be tweaked a little more so watch out remmy!

We had a great weekend. The weather, snow, and seeing old friends made the trip worth going. And of coarse the racing, my 9th year and I finally won a class. It was great to see some new racers, though some wrecked, I hope they had fun. Alyeska is in 2weeks, hope alot of you can make it. It will be a good weekend for sure. Robert(prayn),
real glad you went this year. You did well for a rookie and that coarse was one of the nastiest i've seen at Thompson Pass. John of coarse kicked azz. I though I was going to beat him this year, but he wasn't going to let that happen.

I hope to be 'Boosted' next year, then I can climb those crazy chutes as easy as you both did.

Well I had an awesome time down there, I think the weather was even better than last year when everyone got torched by the sun. This year I only got a tan. This was my first time running, although I didnt do to well and never got to hit the gates at the top of the hill, I still had a blast. On my last run I got to inspect my sled while it rolled down the hill, I never thought I could have so much fun crashing. I have a couple of vid clips that I will try to post on youtube once I figure out how. I have clips of str8upak, dougdanger, wickman, myself, I will post links on here once I figure it out.
