Moffit Basin Avy?

disagree, if a secondary avalanche is triggered by you then who will get help on the way, just like they teach in any good first aid/CPR class, get help coming first then help the victim

IMO, still doesn't matter. If I was the second one buried, and the only other one there, I'd also be dead before help got there.

I have been first on scene to an avy a few minutes after a guy was buried. Our group of three probed for the guy for over 45 minutes w/o finding him, he was not wearing a beacon and died. It is a feeling that I will never forget and I didn't even know the guy. I can't imagine it being a friend.

So it wasn't you we passed.

What's weird is we were sitting on top of Double Hill and 2 people in our group had Binoculars looking at the Super Bowl area just before the Heli came and touched down.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

sled addiction....my heart truly breaks for you! There is likely not one of us here who have not ridden a hill we may not have come home alive from. Your life, and the way you ride, will likely change. I hope you can use what you are going to learn to make people more aware and safe, and become a voice of reason, so that fewer will have to feel what you are feeling.

Thank you for the pics! Please tell us more about your friend and his family? May God bless you and them! :brokenheart:

True words. The loss of a friend to an avy and meeting great peeps here, like Kim, that have lost a friend to avy, I have changed the way i ride and the way I approach a ride as little danger as it may appear to be. I have seen small cornices break on the side of the road and i know you don't have to be 6' under to loose your life. 6" is enough.

Big ups to you for coming on here to talk about it. Hope it helps heal some of your pain. We are here to listen cause we all can feel your pain. Thoughts and prayers to friends and familly. God Bless. :rose: :rose:

Sled Addiction, My condolences to you! My In-laws Are friends with Denny as well as Troy & Tressa his nephew & niece. Times will be tough for you but never second guess the decisions you made. It sounds like you definitely gave it your best under the circumstances you were in. My prayers go out to you and everyone else directly effected.

Fortunately I have never personally lost a friend/family member in an avy. I hope not to. I have read countless threads on others' lives lost though. :brokenheart: But for the people that have witnessed, have been there, they become the best teachers. They are the ones that advance knowledge in avalanches, and help educate others..so others' can live to ride again. Being a rookie in the backcountry, listening to others' unfortunate circumstances have made me respect mother nature.
I don't expect you to go out and preach now, in a time of mourning...but in time, sometimes getting your story out does help heal. :rose: As sledders, we have an amazing group that comes together in times like this!

FUAC, I believe your google map point is 1 Bowl off.:face-icon-small-win
The area is called Humpy Creek Bowl. We don't venture over to that area just because it is so big with Huge run out.
