Lost Lake?

how did the sled run Mike? looks like it was great riding...:beer;

Terrible, I changed jetting, clutching and gearing over the summer, couldn't get RPM or EGTs where they should be, but at least it's an easy fix.

It was good riding, I would've stayed longer if I'd had the parts to fix my sled.

yeah I hate changing more then one thing at a time..but its tough over summer not to change several things..shouldnt be too hard to dial back in....

Just got back for a couple of hours at the lake. Snow up top is good, lots of tracks but plenty of snow to go around. Trail from Seward side is getting hammered already. How about all the folks that drive down here to ride bring some snow for the trail. That would be a big help

Lost lake today...the snow has set up more, and the trail is getting hammered, but there's still good snow to be found. Iphone pic from today..straight up and down

Spent the past two days riding Lost Lake for some much needed therapy ~ not a lot of action pics but the beautiful thing about this therapy, is when you stop to take it all in and the only tracks you see are your own.

but then of course there are the epic trenching moments like this (wish I would have gotten a pic of the one that was straight up vertical) oh by the way, I am standing up all the way in this trench to take this pic on a level'ish area

Yeah TJ... my sled looked like that too ~ about two seconds before it dropped down into the trench I dug

Okay ~ so now I have a question... I was not aware that any of the Lost Lake area is closed to snowmachining. However, on the north side of the lake (you can tell where we were by the picture below) we were riding up the side of the mountain when we got flagged down by a group of skiers, we thought they were in distress so we went over to check and they politely informed us that the area from their "base camp" where they had tents set up and beyond ~ basically west of the camp on the north side of the lake ~ is closed to snowmachining. They were very nice and cool about the situation, we apologized and left the area... but can anyone verify if that is true or not??

hmm

It dosen't say anything on the cnaif.org site, so don't think that is true. There pretty specific of closed areas. Interesting though.

Actually Jen, I believe they are correct. There is a small area if I am not mistaken north and west of the lake that is closed. It is way over by Kenai lake though where it makes the 90 degree bend. I will have to do some looking to try to find it. I have never had any trouble in that area in past, though rarely ever get that far over.

I just looked at the link posted above and YES page 10 clearly shows the area I was refering as being closed. There is also another area that is closed and I am betting that this is the one you guys wound up in. Once again, I have never encountered skiers there either. Since they are using that area, we do need to respect it guys.

Riders from our group encountered them and were informed of the same also. We weren't sure but we left anyway since they seemed polite and everything.

Having a firecat along makes it easier to dig a pit to check snow stability.
