Great day riding with ragin...even if we started at noon, but got back at 7..lol sleds did good on the asphalt as well....but snow up top was spectacular !!! And ragins sled ran pretty durn good...yea...:face-icon-small-hap

I think the 2 grennies on bikes at the parking lot figured we were insane as first 1/8 mile was all pavement to the first curve...hahahaa plus ragins sled smokin like a french whore with all the breakin lube and premix in it...massive plume of nasty smoke..lmao

Glad to see ragin back in the game. I'm sure Darla my dear has had a few different colorful names this year.lol

Has anyone been into Surveryor lately??? We rode Lolo yesterday and had a blast.

Next Sunday we are doing SNO B QUE 2 in Lincoln at Copper Creek would anyone be up for a mid week ride into Surveyor?? This coming week or next?? The 7th and 13th I gotta go out of town on the weekend.

It's been a couple weeks now but last time we were in Surveyor it was as good as it gets. Should be good for some time to come.

John, when you go over there, how far up Spruce do you go? Do you ever go up that one that is closest to Lily Lake switchback?

30' hole.

I'll try to explain the best I can so no one else has a near miss like we did. If you ride Beaver Ridge area this picture might look familiar.

Using the Beaver Ridge lookout as a starting point for directions to this ridge in the picture you would leave from the lookout heading south following the ridge line around which then the ridge line heads due east for the most part, keep on top of the ridge line past where you would drop down on the benches if you were going to Beaver Lake, and then ride that ridge line out as far as you can and you will end up on a ridge that runs north and south with the north end of this ridge ending up at the brushy fork/shoot creek area.
Just as you start heading north you drop down as you can see in the picture next to the tree line with the cornice on your right and not far past where you see the riders in the picture there is a LARGE hole that opened up.
I started down the ridge first and did NOT see a hole and behind me was skisucca. skisucca said that when I went past the area not far from where the riders are in the picture he seen a large chunk of cornice break off and at the same time a LARGE hole and crack in the snow opened up right in front of him. skisucca ski was on the very edge of this hole that was large enough to swallow all of our sleds and about 30' straight down to the dirt.
You can see we were closer to the trees then the cornice but the hole opened up closer to the trees then the edge of the cornice and being that skisucca seen dirt I think that the bottom of the hole was actually to the right of the main ridge line down on the rock cliff and when the cornice chunk broke loose it pulled the snow out from under the area we rode past and the snow on top was still bridged only revealing a hole that you do not want to fall into.
Once past this area the rest of the ridge is all good and has some good play areas in it.
If the directions to this area of concern does not make sense to anyone that rides the beaver ridge area please send me a pm with a phone number and I'll do my best to explain so you can be very careful of this area.

skisucca, Great meeting you and VERY glad it was a near miss on the hole and you did not end up in it.

Scott, from the lookout draw a straight line on a map to Storm Lake. Just before Storm Lake you'll see two other lake (don't know if they have names) and we went down that ridge back in the direction of Spruce Cr and Lily Lk. If I remember just South East a bit from Lily is Moose Lake and then South of Moose Lk is Storm. Just West of Storm you'll see two lakes and we were on the ridge just west and above the two lakes. Not sure I answered your question but all in all due south of Lily a few air miles.

wish i coulda made it! worked on my sled till 1am saturday and ran outa bolts lol. i was only missing 2 thrermo. housing bolts and 2 fuel rail bolts lol. somehow they got mixed in with the other motor which is at kurts lol. luckily hamilton polaris had what i needed and we went for a spin up skalkaho around 2 that afternoon. it ran great but starting having problems with a short somewhere...but ill get er fixed. ill post some pics of our ride tomorrow. yesterday was a beautiful day! happy easter everyone!

John...according to Google Earth...these are the official names of the lakes. So I'm thinking that you call Storm Lake what is labeled as Spruce Creek Lakes?

HAHAHA! Thats awesome rajin

Looks like we have a winter weather advisory for the Bitteroot and Sapphire mountains tonight! 4 to 7 inches :face-icon-small-hap

keep on keepin on comin snow!

Scott, Thats it! Spruce Cr Lks.

The point of interest on your map as for where the LARGE hole opened up and about took out skisucca is on the ridge line just below the "c" and the "e" on where it says "Spurce" Creek Lakes.

skisucca was as white as a ghost when he got to me. Just thinking back on how he explained the large crack opening up and the deep hole that exposed instantly in front of him makes me cringe. If anyone rides that area be VERY careful and stay close to the trees if not just inside of them until you get past the narrowest part of the ridge.

skisucca is a great rider but that hole would have won. It was a matter of inches.

Cool country though. Makes for a good day of riding.

ragin, Skalkaho loos like good times. Nice pic's.

IndoubtGASIT, Nice meeting your dad and hope he had a good time. We'll have to do it again sometime soon.

Yes, "death ridge cornice" is no fun haha

my ski tip was about a couple inches from being swallowed whole along with the sled and myself. this hole was atleast 30 feet deep(to the dirt), it was a little sketchy to say the least.

still had a friggin blast and was daydreaming today about our ride. John was a great host along with Bryce, Tom, and Rick. Cant wait for this weekend to rip it up some more somewhere.

Hopin or some more spring pow!

GOTCHA. AWESOME country over there. I can't ever seem to get my old man over there....in due time.

WestMont, he really enjoyed it and had a great time. He wouldn't stop talking about how cool it was back there. And how awesome the country was. lol.
He had me crackin up all day in my helmet. I love gettin him out!

Yes we've got lots of ridin left to do and I would love to ride soon.
I'd like to ride July 1st this year. I've never rode that late and I think this year would be a year to give it a shot.
The latest i've been out was June 7th I believe in 08'.

Gee I wanted to go with Scott but I dont want to get photoshopped clothes over my Speedo when we stop to take a dip in the ICE COLD spring runoff creek along the road.

The Surveyor decider is coming off the back side of the Test Hill that south slope with some MASSIVE jagged rocks melts off first... also dropping into kid on the SW slope melts off but you can run the ridge all the way out and drop thru the trees onto the north end of Kidd....

Is there a way in on the North side of the Test Hill??? I have heard of a Logging road that runs around that edge??

Yeah, but it drifts over pretty bad and it gets to be quite a sidehill job. That's the same road you come in on...and keep on going past the outhouse. Just keep on following it all the way into Idaho. It does come out in the saddle right there under the test hill and loops around toward Kidd.

You actually cross it when you drop off the test hill and turn right and start up the ridge trail that leads to the razor ridge that drops into Kidd.
