When all that rain freezes a layer on top of the base snow we may see another avy year like last year.:face-icon-small-sad

As much as I would like to have rode this weekend I ended up staying home sick.I feel sorry for that new $180 belt when I'm able to ride because it's going to get broke in the old fashion way. I also hope the tree's will have mercy on me because I'm sure to be a little rusty.

To finish up on a more positive note for the ones that made it out this weekend I hope you all had a great time.

yep, the turbo kits are for the rm450,but i havent seen the kit for sell yet.riding was good, went to a secrete spot saterday, and hoodoo today, snow was wet today but still fun.

Wingnut,
The snow sucks.

Westmont,
The motors got a work out today. 2 arctic cat 600 guys went home at the first hill, luther bent an A-arm that no one witnessed what REALLY happened and went home early, I bent both lower radius rods(have any?), everyone including Ditchpickle(his was ratcheting something bad so add a couple 15mm to the tools as pliers wont work) were stuck at some point. Very soggy day but a good time. Better get feeling better but tapping out today was probably smart for the bod but tough on the fun. Mtn. Henry area all to ourselves.

radius rods???

What the hell were you riding??

I used to have a whole pile of radius rods, but I think I recycled em.......

Even soggy up high eh, that sucks!!!!!

Yep, that's gonna make a dandy layer of HOAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EF'N HOAR!!!

Electrician is here today, should have some rock hangin by next weekend. Might get this addition done by the new year, then I can work on the boss about gettin the winger a new ride!!!!!!!

What setup are ya runnin on that beast, I had the same sled for many years..

I have a just about stock 800 RMK 151 I just installed a wildchild post cause i bent the wet noodle it had in it last season. it has a holtz variflow installed and had a avenger 2 egt. I also have twin pipes. I couldn't get the Avenger to work so I took it off this year. Not sure that was prolly a good idea with the variflow on it. It sounds like its easy to burn pistons up with out one. The darn thing just dont seem to be runnin as smooth as I think it should. I adjust the variflow and I dont seem to get it right. it either pops and spits which is to lean or runs with out any power and like its choked which is to rich but I cant find the happy medium. if i am a little on the Rich side i can get it to run great when I am pinned or sort of heavy on the throttle. if I try to run at a slow speed it will bog down sputter choke out. I am almost to the point I would like to take the vari off too and just jet it for my elevation. I did install an extended throttle cable this year too to compensate for the 5" lift on the bars. When I did this I also put in a new cowling and moved the placement of the vari to be more accessable. The hose does have a pretty good bend comin off the back. Not sure if that would effect the way the vari works. What is everyones elses thoughts? I'll check the plugs when I go back to regis this next friday. I am new to this and really have not dealt with two stroke motors. so any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone for the help. Sometimes i just wanna :frusty:. lol

What year is the motor? Makes a big difference in jetting if its a ves or not. Also the 03's and later had a different style of needle affecting jetting. Does it have the stock airbox or is filters? I'm not familiar with the variflow, but I'm guessing it is like a dial a jet.

mod03rmk800, I have spare radius rods so don't go buy any. We can also put yours in the press to straighten them out. Sounds like good times were had and I would much rather be digging out a stuck sled then sitting on the couch sick any day but you got to do what you got to do sometimes. Maybe this coming weekend.

01 800 And yes the variflow is i guess like the dial a jet it does have a dial! lol it has filters. It didnt have a air box when I bought it!

montanagrizzly, was the sled running ok at first and then started to spit and sputter on the bottom end right after installing the throttle cable extension? If so check your throttle cable adjustment. You should only have .010" - .030" freeplay between your throttle lever (flapper) and the throttle block. If the freeplay is to more then .030" then the engine can misfire, bog, and or stall whenever the throttle lever is just moved off idle but run fine at high idle.

It also a good idea to check your oiler adjustment to be sure the alignment marks are still lined up after the throttle cable adjustments are complete.

It ran ok when i parked it last spring........Put the extension on before my first ride this fall......but boy that sure sounds like exactly whats happening. I will check that first thing when I get to my buddies on Fri! So what your saying is there should be some play between where the throttle lever meets the Block but not to much! I believe I have it sitting completely on the block! with more slack then is needed! Does that sound like I'm understanding what your saying WestMont?

possible

Westmont is givin ya a good start...

If ya still have issues:

1. Start a fire.
2. Stoke it up nice and big.
3. Remove the "Variflow" thingamajigger.
4. Insert said thingamajigger into nicely stoked fire.
5. Adjust carbs accordingly.
6. Adjust clutching accordingly.
7. Ride all day without opening the hood.
8. Smile!

I'll have to look up my old setup, lasted for years and years..

Yes thats it. The throttle lever pivots on the pin when you push on it from the idle position to say wot. Measure from the side opposite of the pivot pin (this would be at the point closest to you when sitting on the machine) and when the lever is say in the idle position and you wiggle it then you should have .010" - .030" freeplay before the cable/lever starts to get resistance against the carb slides.

They don't have to be out of adjustment very far and your engine will act as you discribed because of the aux kill switch located inside of your throttle.

NOW, I'm hearing the rest of the story.....yeah, now it sounds like your throttle flapper slack and throttle cable could be an issue.

Also, it sounds like a mid range problem. What RPM range is it giving you problems?
I know the pilot jet needs to go a step bigger with the variflow.

And for the advice of tossing the variflow in the fireplace...don't listen to the bah-humbug over there. LOL. I've had mine since 2002 and have LOVED it. It's been flawless for me once I picked the right inlet and outlet sizes (I got em right my second try).

Your fuel screw could be mis-adjusted.

Set it on 1/2 choke and see how it does in the midrange.

I'm guessing that throttle cable is the culprit since that is the one change you made since last spring.

I will focus on that this friday! If i need to talk to ya scott Ill give ya call! Ill let ya know what the scoop is when I get back home since I dont have internet at my buddies! He sure is cheap....But none the less a good friend! I think this is the problem. I guess i just need to make the adjustments to fit tighter tolerances! Thanks for the help and Ill check in next Sunday and give ya all a holler!

One other question should I runn an egt with the vari so I dont over heat the cylinders!

go off plugs and piston wash before you look at an EGT. egts are good for keepin an eye on things, they should not be totally relied on when tuning.

If the sled was running fine before with the thingamajigger then it should run fine now unless the fuel in the carbs went bad and now they need cleaned out but try the simple things first.

Can we throw the thingamajigger in the fire yet? :flame: jk

I just happen to have an avenger 2 that came with the sled i took off cause i couldnt get it to work then realized not to long ago they take batteries. So I could get new batteries and reinstall it if needed! I rode three months with out it last season and had no problems.
