Dang, that's expensive. Do the Canadians have it any cheaper up there? I was under the impression it's in the $200 to $400 range for them. WRONG???

I'll bet it's at least twice that or more even if they are in the area. It costs the owner operator a lot to start the chopper up (fuel, maintenance, payments, etc..).

If you burn another sled up towing a broken sled out or someone gets hurt bad trying to help get it out, then flying might be cheaper in the long run.

Maybe the number of helicopters working in the area?

We stayed at the Glacier House in Revy and you always seem to see heli's coming and going all the time. Looked like mostly heli skiing operations and logging but I'm sure they pick sleds also.

It was quite a sight for me the first time I watched a helicopter land on a return trip bringing skiers back and picking up more. There was a group of skiers ducking down in a huddle formation with there skis in a pile about 50 ft away waiting on the chopper to land. As soon as the chopper came in and landed the return skiers got out and formed a group huddle ducking down while the crew members got out, opened the ski basket, and started just hucking the skiers equipment out behind them on the ground with it all landing in a big pile. They then loaded the other skiers and equipment and took off again all in about 5 minutes. Made me wonder how much equipment damage was caused by throwing it around the way they do.

I was also very impressed with this same operation on how quickly they were able to land, pick up medics, and take off again when they were heaed out to aid a sledder caught in a avy. I'll bet the chopper wasn't on the ground 20 seconds that time loading 3 medics and equip.

I think its because they fly quite a few heli skiers in the area too. When I was filming with Davidoff the helicopter stopped to film on its way back from dropping skiers off.
This year when we tried getting the sled out I ripped one Barbuster a-arm off, broke a shock. And then punched a handlebar through the seat of my Unionbay when we were trying to pull it out side by side with two sleds. The a-arms are $300 a piece alone. After all that I still had to get a chopper and buy 8 people dinner for helping me try to get it out. For me it is cheaper to just call a chopper and be done with it. At this point I should just become a pilot:face-icon-small-dis

How much harder can it be than a skid-steer?
Remember when you started learning those and you couldn't get it to stop bouncing? LOL
