Drive shaft 250 miles. Had 4 2013 with us only one broke. Not a cool thing when your warranty doesn't Cover recovery.

Howdy everyone! The snow looks like its slowly stacking up. First ride out this weekend thinking of trying seeley or lolo. Anyone else heading out this weekend?

Seeley is GREAT right now...and Lolo is REALLY coming on.

Recently, I was up the canyon that goes up to Beaver Ridge lookout. First time up this particular road. Once we left the road....it was DEEP. We didn't make it to Beaver Lake. Tried going up through burn on east side of canyon. Was too steep and deep in the tight trees to pull it off. And we ran out of time. Had to be back down to civilization by 4:00. But boy o boy....blue skies. And OMG fun.

Scott that ride is one of my favorites, makes for a fun little rodeo. Sure a fun area with a LOT of good tree riding, that burn made a fun spot. If we go lolo, we might try down around skookum or head to beaver ridge. Seeley sounds promising. 2x, I've never rode east side of the root. I'd like to try it out one of these days.

Hey anytime, need a bit more snow to get back to the good bowls ect.....if we get around another 2 feet built up drag scott down here and we can go for a good ride

Bryce, when you rode into Beaver, how do you go?
When we got to the end of the road, we went straight up about 11:00 to the left off the end of the road. So in other words...almost straight east.

It was SWEET in there last time I was there.

There are a couple trees down in there. One is a BIG Spruce tree about 30" in diameter. We had to get up close to the bank and go under...and then horse the sleds around to get past the SECOND one that is 5 feet away from it.

Scott and anyone else that rides the Beaver Ridge area,

Just a FYI ..... long winded but please beware..... the ridge line above and west of Spuce Creek Lakes which would be eastward one more ridge line from where you are talking about.

"When we got to the end of the road, we went straight up about 11:00 to the left off the end of the road. So in other words...almost straight east."

If and when you get to the ridge line above Spruce Creek Lakes (the next ridge over to the east) you can descend down the ridge line towards the Brushy Fork BUT before you do please stay as close to the trees as possible. Again if you do not return back the way you came from the Beaver Ridge area and you decide to go down the ridge (heading north now) above Spruce Cr Lks stay as close to the trees as possible for the first 100-150 yards off the top until the ridge line gets noticeably wider on top.
That first bit off the top of the ridge is a razor back and it gets a large cornice built up that makes it look like it might be good for traveling on (narrow but good) but if you break through it's about a 800-1000 ft drop to the lakes.
I have went down that ridge line quite a few times but one time a couple years ago I was first down and three or four sleds back SLDHVN was coming down behind me and had a hole in the cornice the size of a sled open up right in front and barely to the right of him and when he went by there wasn't a bottom to the hole. It dropped out all the way to the lakes. There was still snow to the far edge but it was all wind blown and bridged over thus leaving a hole without a bottom. I did not see the hole because I never went back up to look but one look in the eyes of SLDHVN and you knew the man upstairs was watching over him. I felt terrible and thankful all at the same time. Terrible for what happened and worse yet what could have happened and very thankful for the safe outcome of a bad situation.
I explore a lot of different areas and had previously been down this route before. I enjoy taking others to new areas that they haven't been to and so on but never would I knowingly put anyone in this type of situation.
Now with all of that said IF you stay very close to the trees I feel it's safe to follow the ridge line down from the top to the wider section below and once you are to that point the rest of the ridge is a blast to ride as it opens up.

Again do not go down that ridge if you think it can not be done safely. Please go back towards Beaver Ridge and drop down to the Brushy Fork that way.

I hope I've described the area of concern in a way so you know where I'm talking about. If not and you or anyone else have any questions please ask or call me and I'll do my best to explain it until you know exactly where the danger area is above the lakes. Otherwise this is a fun and safe place to ride.

I remember that story John. Thanks for explaining where that is.

Here is a picture of the general route we took. I think we were just a SLIGHT bit more the south...but not much. Within 50 to 100 yds.

We were 100 yds from the making that bench directly above us. Then it would have been a short jaunt to the main ridgeline divide.

It was steep, deep and really drifted in the trees right there where we stopped. That was a fine little rodeo just getting to that point.
