first, glad he's ok and hope he makes a full recovery.

I just talked to a client today who races the Baja 1000. talked about the SPOT etc. He says he now carries a SAT phone for the very reasons you wrote of. that way the WHOLE picture is immediately clear. The SPOT does its job. It would result in a rescue. but the confusion and extra time in a life flight situation would be better addressed with a phone. I am going to look into one. cost, rates etc. Client deactivates his when not racing. so.... we'll see. It may be cheaper than we think.

I agree rock. you can get a sat phone for about $50 per month for a safety plan.

Thanks boys!!! Just got home...Sheeshh what a day. More deteails and pics when chris wakes up. My boy Jeff dropped around a 18-20 and landed in a track hard. That was at 11am. We think he left the hill on LIFE FLIGHT around 4ish. Compression Fracture is what they say. What a helpless feeling I had seeing one of my best friends lying there in excrutiating pain and I could do nothing:(

We had a great crew helping! Woofy and chris I think are the only ones one here but there was 6 of us total.

Im just tooo spent(emoitionaly and physicaly) to think of all the details...sorry more tomorrow. One hell of a grapevine we have though. Its amazing what a group of peeps we have on here and off...sledders kick ars ALMOST as kick arss as that LIFE FLIGHT pilot!!! wicked chit. Ca't wait to see the pics.

Sorry to hear this! :( Compression fractures are not a fun thing.
I can recommend a great chiropractor and physical therapist! Make sure he takes his time healing up and doesnt push it.

Is there anything we can do for him at the moment? Need some sled videos to watch while he is laid up? Let me know!

Sad to hear about the back. That sucks. Hope you get better soon. Im glad that a bad thing went as good as it could. I couldnt even imagine the pain he was in. Let me know if I can help in any way.
Thanks, Lynn

Just got home from the hospital and the word is he has 1 fractured vert and 2 bulged discs. He is still in a TONS of pain but he as an ample suply of morfine. Apparantly he will go home to WYO tomorrow after they get his pain managed and get him fitted for the brace that he will be sporten for the next few months...

Ill take my laptop up tonight and let him read this...You guys are great peeps and I know he appreciates all the thoughts, prayers, and offers to help...As do I! Thanks again!!!

Its good to hear you guys got out. sorry to hear about the back we fish up there in the summer when i told my wife about this her first comment was how did they get a cell signal.

See Jeff this why i ONLY eat lunch with these clowns!;) Spencer you are one funny dude!

Get better Jeff! Let me know if you need help with your freight I got a whole lot of nothing to do right now?

Couple of pics

Here is couple, might show the perspective a bit better of the hill, no not huge but 20' for sure. An it is not as fluffy as it looked in the pics.... It looks like it hurt....

BTW to all using a SPOT, always send the phone numbers of the ones that get the message from the SPOT with the people going out. Was horrible I am sure for the families on that end of the notification, I wish I had called them to ensure them that Lyle was Ok!

Also when your loved ones are up in the backcountry always answer your dam phone, I called 3 different people and all went to voice mail, maybe they were unavailable, maybe just not answering because they did not know the number coming in.

There are 4 ways in to this mountain range where we were, there is no way any would have known where we went in without the phone call, yes a Sat phone would have been great in this instance.

So again make sure to send someone out with the phone numbers to call to make sure all family members are notified. now if we had not been able to get out we probably would have spent the night waiting for daylight to fly him out.....

Get well buddy, you and Blake make a geat spoon! Remember the movie "Without a Paddle" LMAO See ya at home soon huh!:D

Drunk post? huh? That will go down in SW history as one of the funniest posts ever!! No, I don't remember it. LOL. ;)

I was at the RV show a few weeks back and the Sat Phone dealer said that he rents them by the day. I picked up a flyer but it doesn't have the rental rates but my wife thought they sounded pretty reasonable. Here is the contact info: SatellitePhoneStore.com or tel # 1-877-943-6383.

My thoughts and prayers are with you for a quick and FULL recovery...
