At last, the snow has come!
I don't know about the rest of you but I am headed back up to Island park in about 4 minutes.
Hope to have a memorable day of riding up top!!

I can officially say that the season has now opened.!
Island Park got some significant snow yesterday and last night.

I would guess around 12 inches in the valley.
18 inches up on top.

I don't come over here to much anymore, but pieps need to know to stay off the hills up there. Got back a couple hours ago. I have never seen the avy activity in one day that we saw in the hell roaring drainage, I am going to guess Lionshead is every bit as bad if not worse. Not really a gentle way to put it, Stay the h3ll off the hills in IP right now.

Current Conditions:
As of 6 AM Sunday, 1/24/10 we have received a Trace to 3" of snow in the last 24 hrs. & 21--27" above 8,000' since Tuesday, with 2" water.

AVALANCHE DANGER is CONSIDERABLE to HIGH and wind-loaded slopes are fragile. VERY DANGEROUS avalanche conditions exist. We have 1+ feet of "sugar" that is now covered with significant wind slabs (2--4' thick). Avoid steep slopes, gullies and runout zones today!

Remember--there are always "pockets" of snow with a higher hazard than the general forecast rating. Strong winds will increase the hazard thru the day on Sunday.

SnoTel total snow = 39 Inches

We saw two decent sized slides in Black Canyon yesterday as well. One guy caught, but not completely buried.

Very poor conditions.

How's it looking for the weekend? We are heading out on Friday. We will be riding Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Can't wait!

Rode all day yesterday in the southern end of the park.
Took 10 "never-evers" on their first ride.

Snow was good.
NO stumps, NO Rocks, NO logs were hit in any of he fields.

Looks like we now have a good solid covering of snow everywhere in the valley. And it just gets better as you go up higher.

Park was almost deserted on Weds. I took my group down to Mesa Falls, and I don't think we saw 4 other sleds the whole day...
