Island Park Snow conditions 07/08

IP

Hey , thanks for the info . We will be over there for 4 days . We're driving on friday and then we'll ride SAT , SUN , MON and come home TUES. If you're coming ever , let me know . We really want to know what is going to be the fastest way to the good stuff , bowls and boondocking . We have a couple of easy riders with us so if we could all make it to where the good riding is , that would be awesome . What is the best place to check for the AVA. conditions and so forth once we're there ?????

Check islandparksnow.net it has a snow/avy conditions and links to the gallation forest forcasting center. Pretty sure it has a contact #you can call for the daily verbal bulliten. x2 on the stay off the big stuff, there are some deep buried layers and we have had some pretty good wind in the last week so every thing should be loaded up. I think we will be up on Sat and possib mon we ride Ray's and know some good spots to play on Jeff. Might be able to meet up and show you around.

I'll be ridin up there this weekend, have some buisness i have to take care of so not exactly sure when i'll make it up. but good luck up there! Been ridin there a couple times already this winter and every ride I find a new untracked area, there are plenty of them so I wouldn't risk hurtin yourself in the danger zones.

good advice

Hey , thanks guys for the info . We defanantly want to stay safe . We have three days to ride so we have some time to check everything out . We would enjoy riding with whoever is going to be there Sat , Sun and mon for some guides, we have a group of about 10 so it should be cool . I was looking at some google satllite maps and is Sawtell pk. anything to talk about ? Would it be better to trailer the sleds further northeast on the east side of the highway by two top rather than going up blues crk to reays pk . and jefferson area ?? 'we wanted to ride the sleds from the cabins , but I think it will be to far of a trail ride and roads. We want to get to the play and climb areas as fast as possible , so knowing where to do that would be great !!! I'll pm you guys for contact info !! thanks alot

Many people ride around Sawtell, but I won't ever go there due to the fact that a neighbor of mine died in an Avy there when I was in High School. It's quite similar to Jefferson. If you're going to ride two top area you'd definately have a long trail ride to get there, which is a drawback with big mountain sleds. If you pulled your trailer to Valley view I'm sure you could find somewhere to park. We have a cabin on Henry's Lake and we have a nice big parking lot right off the highway on Red Rock Road. Drive through the flats, then you'll come to a little community of Cabins for rent on the left hand side of the road, once you pass that it's the next left. Big plowed parking lot. Unload there and follow the highway North for just a little bit. You'll see a point where the trail crosses the Hwy. and it heads East towards the tree line. Once you get there you can follow a trail that will take you to the top of Two Top, which is basically a groomed trail the whole way, but there are many places to take off through the trees to have a very good time.

Spot On!

Been riding in that spot twice this year and found some real fun snow. Its a great and, for the most part safe, place to ride. The cabin i stay at in on the reservoir also and unless you want to spend a lot of money on gas just trailer your sleds the extra few miles to the red rock road parking lot. there are many open places with deeep snow just off that trail tgoodwin is referring too. plus your really close to West (just keep following the trail in and follow the signs you'll eventually see). it would make for at least one fun day of riding. also...make sure you watch your speed once you get close to West, and that your sleds are licensed, there are cops on the trail and they will ticket you.

The funny part about the cops was that they used to ride two up trail sleds. You could toy with them until they got frustrated and left you alone. It was always fun in a group of like ten to split up and boondock when the popo was after you.

Now though I have seen them on 800RMK's but i dont think you can buy riding ability. Who knows??? Let us know how you guys deal with the 5.0.

Just got back rode in through blue creek. The road section is getting pretty whooped out. Dropped down into hell roaring. The snow in the bottom WAS great! prob 2 ft in the flats in the bottom and another foot or so of untracked in the trees. Played down in front of windshield then it was out due to lack of gas. Looked like from the drifts on the top of RAYS they have had alot of wind up there so everything this weekend is going to be loaded up. Be safe and stay off the big climbs this weekend. Got some good pics if anyone wants to post em for me. Must be an idiot cause they always end up like an inch big when I do it
:(

Bubba - 2' of snow is all?
yup just 2 ft on top of all the base, sad hugh? but up in the trees we found some bottomless stuff, apparently deep powder and trees scares people . Yup there is a parking lot Blue Creek its pretty hard to miss. It will be the 2nd parking lot on your right. If you pay attention to roads on the left , the blue creek road takes off and its just a little ways down the road on the right. Its pretty hard to miss its usually pretty full of trucks and trailiers.

That's better!

Fug man, I thought you meant 2' TOTAL! What is the overall snow depth? Planning on coming up next weekend.

Not sure on totals, check islandparksnow.net it has the snotel listings. The base is pretty good up there. First time I have been up to IP since before new years and they have alot more snow since then. I would say snow depths up there are where we were at maybe the end of feb begining of march last year.

How far has the road been cleared passed shotgun

6 of us are head up there for jan 27, just wonder how far it cleared. I was up there last year and we could only get part way up around the taylor creek area. Different group this year, last group one guy had and incident with a truck and his dragon rental.
