Island Park Snow conditions 07/08

Just got back from shoveling a roof today, the cabin is on Bills Island and there is at least 2 new feet since i was up there not last weekend but the weekend before. lots o snow!

Looks like we won't be parking the trailers at the cabin this year! Oh well I'll take the snow over the conveniences.

I'll post em up when we get out there and take some Heading out on the Feb 15th. Snow should be crazy deep by then.

just got back from island park trip and the snow is crazy deep got 20+" sun-tue, with more thur-fri[we left wed nite]hy 20 was closed for high wind, blowing snow for a day.black canyon loop was nuts on tue,had 6-8' drifts on trail and did alot of digging just riding on the trail. groomer was down in the trail. it is very deep basically everywhere. if you go into bowls make sure you have the power to get out, we dropped in a few, and found bottemless powder that was awesum, and almost impossible to get back out of. there is a posted,[mph] for all of island park trails for[[[ 45mph.]]] i heard alot of people bichin about getting tickets for speeding, and they live in the area.i personnally seen the patrol sled running rader, on main trail going to ponds area on the long flats. also they are nailing anyboby for driving on plowed[non trail] roads, no warnings. especially in bents camp area[on big springs loop road,by the gas station and bar] so be carefull.cops dont care where you are going , you are getting a ticket.

was also told by locals hot shoes. that the jefferson mountain areas are a death trip waiting to happen [HUGE AVI] area. they said if you want to die go ride them otherwise stay away from them untill they have slid and settled, we rode areas a little south near there, found some small bowls that were only 100-200' tall and was dam near impossible to climb[ took about 4-6 tries] the snow is the deepest we have seen this time of year.after riding there for 8 yrs. so, HAVE FUN, AND HAVE YOUR SHOVELLING ARMS ALL PUMPED UP. YOU ARE GONA GET A WORKOUT!!!

Its been a crazy weather day here in Rexburg. white out blizzard for alot of it mixed with stong winds. roads are drifted everywhere and its all heading up to IP..man its a good year!

The Snow is Killer

First tracks in Stamp Meadows last Monday. That is one hell of a storm going through there this last week. Some of the deepest snow I have seen up there in years. Awesome...

Has anyone been riding the IP area lately. was wondering how the snowpack in the areas around Reas, Hell roaring and Jefferson are also Lionshead. The Avy report says things are starting to stabilize. Coming out there a week from Friday so want to start gathering infor and keeping an eye out for dangerous areas.

Bubba? been there lately

anyone?

What are trail conditions like? I heard they don't groom so much as often latley, also what is this talk about no riding on roads in I.P village? how are you supposed to get to your cabin in I.P village if you can't ride in I.P village?

what are snow depths like around macks inn?

thanks.

^^ Drive aroung the IP Lodge and enter the resort from the golf course. Once on the resort property you can ride their roads since it's private.

Yeah I found it, clouds just rolled in and it's warm. I'm at 6500 Elevation. 6- 20 sounds good, I bet we get 6" but hoping for more. I will keep you posted.
This pic will be a before and after for the storm.

Mother Inlaw just left the Cabin today, and said the snow is now level with the bottomn of the electrical box on the Power Pole. Thats a lot of snow in 1 month.

Just got back from I.P today.

I have never seen snow that deep for this time of year, and we have been going to I.P for over 10 years.

I am talking over the hood deep all week!

In our driveway when we loaded up last night, the snow was over the hood just from the new snow we got last week.

Tried to punch in to Taylor Creek. A few made it after almost 3 hours of breaking trail. WE were stuck so many times, it looked a fighter jet went on a bombinb run up that creek. There were craters all over the place.

The snow has not had time to set up yet from all the snow. We never made it back to Jeferson, the vis was not good enough so we played in Black Canyon in the trees. I have never laughed that hard in years!

The banks of the roads going into Shotgun were waaaaay over the top of the truck, so we knew that we were headed for a great week.

Fun, fun, fun!!

JEFF Where did you stay at when you were there?

did you notice if the Shotgun Village cabins were plowed out?

The Cabin we rent is right on the golf course there and I was wondering if we'll be able to drive in or not. Pretty certain we won't get the trailers in but having to pack everything to the cabin on the sleds would suck bad.

Guess I can rule out any serious climbing huh!

Thanks for the report.

XC:

We stay in a cabin between shotgun and lakeside out in the meadow.

The shotgun cabins were not plowed out when we were there. I did see a snowblower getting some of the driveways cleaned off, but that was on the last day.

I think they were waiting until this last storm to get through first to get stuff plowed.

There is so much snow, you need blowers now as there is nowhere to put the snow from a plow.

When we went through West Yellowstone on the way, the locals were cursing all the snow. They ran out of room to plow it! hehehehe Huge piles all over the place and the roads keep getting narrower and narrower.

On a really bad vis day, we took the stamp meadows trail over to black canyon, and there was not a bump on the trail. Trail conditions were flawless (On the few trails that we were on, on the way to black canyon)

For all of you guys asking about snow conditions in certain places in IP, don't worry, you have more snow out there than I have seen or the locals have seen in 25 years......

Incredible!

Thanks, I hope they get it plowed/blown out to the cabin. but if not we'll have to pack it in. Oh well the riding will make up for the inconvenience. :D

Head'n that way this weekend, looks like it as warmed up quit a bit the last few days, how is the powder? has it all settled out yet, it only takes one or two days in the 40's to settle any amount powder it seems, any updated reports would be nice.
