We rode keg springs today, thigh deep fresh pow. Ran into a herd of NoDaks out there having fun, one guy got hauled out with a seperated shoulder after he drove off a cornice into a hole. Visibility was mostly good but there was some flat light moments. Epic day overall!

riding IP end of next week and wk end

Our group is coming over from boise on the 18th thru the 22nd and we will be staying in the cabins by the reservoir somewhere . who on here will be riding that time , we need some info on where to go? Jefferson seems very appealing and its surrounding areas !!! thanks , Stan

02 pol. 700 evo 111 turbo 162 -- watch out!!!!

Rode the south east side of IP on Saturday. The snow was like a dream. We broke trail from NOTELLEM over to Ponds. Base is set up ok but you can still break through and dig a hole. Several weak weak layers make up the base though. You couldnt pay me to ride any steeps up there right now.

Maybe saw three groups all day. One had a Apex that I am guessing ran on propane with a big O2 tank on the tunnel. The rider thought he was pretty cool as he was able to pack the ski's down the trail. I hate to tell him but my 600RMK will do the same thing. The sled sounded unique and I could hear the turbo like it was a powerstroke.

Hey revpilot I was one of the two from ND that you guys helped find that group's sled. He did end up having a seperated sholder, but was back and in good spirits later that night. The guys from his group came out and got the sled and rode some more as did my group. The snow was awsome out there. That same group busted up a different sled on a rock in that same area later that day. We were playing on that small hill when you guys came back out, some guys in our group only had 1.25 tracks and didnt want to go any further. All in all a great day for us, not so much for the others.

By the way thanks for the help with finding the sled.

whos riding this weekend ?

We're coming from boise on fri. and staying till tuesday . We are staying , I believe on the IP side of the lake in the cabins and want to know if we can ride across the lake straight from the cabins . Is Blue Crk the fastest way to get to the goods towards jefferson from where were at ?? We have a couple of turbos so we need some room to gallop , Straight up!!!! Any info would be great , or even to hook up with some knowledge on the hill to tell where to go ... thanks .

Knowledge on the hill says give it some room. Go play in the trees unless you want to be deceased icon.

Rev is right, avy danger is very high in Jefferson right now. Many layers on top of others that are unstable. You can't beat Jefferson for climbing, but right now it's probably not worth it. Pretty much any one of those chutes is primed to break, if it hasn't already.
You will be sure to find many guys riding there though, so if you're coming from the res. Blue Creek is the fastest, and there should be plenty of guys heading in from the Parking lot. I wouldn't go though.
There's lots of good riding in I.P. without near the danger (yes there is always a danger anywhere there's an incline). Black Canyon has some great boondocking, and some good climbs as well. If you head towards Valley view campground/station there's a trail to the East across the flat area that will take you into some great climbs, even the face of Two Top if you want. Just be careful, lots of new snow = avy's.

Ip riding

Can you ride right from the Ip side of the reservoir ? We defanantly don't wan't to play in ava. territory , so where now should we go ? Is there other stuff to find up blues crk and reahs pk ? or do we need to go further east and work our way in from that way . where are all of the good bowls that are safe and the boondocking all off one trail system ??? thanks for the good info guys !!!!! well be there this weekend , anyone riding ???

Not sure where you guys are staying but if you're at the Reservoir you're close enough to many good areas. I've never ridden across the Res. but I can't imagine there being any danger in it right now with all the snow and cold temps. Best way for me to explain how to get to Blue Creek is by turning left at Elk Creek Station and heading West for about 5 miles. Cross the bridge over the river, pass Yale Creek area, and it's the next parking lot. There aren't too many trails in there, just a few miles out of the parking lot then it's up through the trees. There are a few fun hills to play on, including the climb up Rey's Peak. Once you're on top of the Peak you can turn right for a few hundred yards and drop the cornice down Hell's Roaring, and head further East for a more mild ride down the chute. You have to go that direction to get back to the bowls, unless you go in through Willow Creek. This is about 2 miles further up the road. There's a parking lot at Willow Creek where you can park and continue riding the paved road about 2 more miles where you'll see a trail to the right, it's heavily traveled and posted so you really can't miss it. This will take you around some of the nasty stuff and get you to the same place. I think the best bowls are on the North side of the Creek running through the middle of the canyon, and historically they seem to be a little safer, but still pretty risky. Please just check the conditions and be very smart. There should be a lot of riders up there, and most of them are experienced in the area. Talk to them and maybe meet some new riding buddies. Have fun, I wish I were going on Sat. but I have too many Honey-do's, I will be riding Monday though, but probably in Preston. I'll know in a day or two where I'm going, so if I head that way I'll try to contact you guys.
