IS it a bad thing when the motor makes a funny noise and seizes ???

Dang...I've seen two Revs of years past blow a rod, both with low miles...takes out the cases and causes the white smoke. Hopfully you are up and running again soon. It's almost as if they are good or they aren't.

Feel your pain

I feel your pain. My wife got five miles on her Skidoo Thanksgiving Day before a crank bearing siezed. She went and bought an RMK...

Damn, that blows T/A

Hope things work out with your dealer.

I wonder if all the high reving above 8500 rpm has anything to doo with that???

Your thoughts ??????????????

when it hits the rev limiter i backed out of it and didnt run it hard, i dont think this is the problem,,yesterday it hit the limiter 1 time on the way in to our area,,ran 8000-8200 all day and i clicked down to 1 on the way out before we hit the road and was only 2 miles up the road when it let go and wasnt on it at all..we had 9 riders so i didnt want to get into a mess like when OT rode with us..

Oops! I guess I'll add this one to the list... we saw a lot of sleds getting towed out this weekend. We even saw a Polaris towing a Doo AND a Cat! Don't worry though T/A, your dealer will have that thing up and running in no time.

Sorry to hear it T/A. Where were you riding? How Was the Snow? I had the same problem with my rev so that is why i am trying the nytro this year.

Dang!!!!! Thats $ucks. Maybe i shouldn't have put on the after market toys on the new m1000 until i put some miles on it. One ride and everything is good. Good Luck getting it back together. :beer;

Here is a good clue on the mid range jetting of the 800R's from the dootalk flatland section by Mach1Z yesterday

"Thanks, this info is a must to have for guys like myself, who like to test and tune as well, how much of a ***** was getting to the carbs, and air box off, could you get to the mains from a hole in the bottom of the float bowl, like carbs of old,or did you just remove the bottom carb cover, you said you raised the needle w/a plastic shim, where do you get those shims, and what size are they? .020-.030 thou?? How did you decide it was running hot in the midrange,do you have egt probe on the pipe, its funny you mention this, cause one of our dealers here in maine stated the same thing, about the hot spot in the mid. which is where i have always burnt up my 2-strokes before, let me know how the heavier pin weight works, and if you had to click down to #2 and how much the 26 top gear gave you."

"Changing mains wasn't bad. Remove airbox, loosen carb boots, you have to remove the outside antifreeze line to tilt the carbs up. I put vise grips on the lines so I didn't loose much fluid. It's an allen drain plug on the bottom. Now to get to the needles you have to remove the carbs completely which requires removing choke cable, throttle cable, inside antifreeze line and vacuum hoses. needles already have a shim in, I just put another one of the same on top. Be careful not to overtighten the needle lock plate screw. I got the shims at the dealer. Didn't use any egt's. My temp gauge was getting close to pegging out while riding the river at a steady 1/3 to half throttle and when ever I got on it the temp would drop from the fat mains."

You couldn't pay me to take my new XP out of my garage first ride without raising the needle at least one clip by position or shim, and I have been of this opinion for a number of years because of EPA and feedback from friends. Shims for the 800R's are about $13 from HiPerformance engineering. High performance two strokes need three things to survive, enough fuel and enough oil and enough
cooling !!!!
Any one of these is lacking and ..........................

Good Luck

Good Luck

Shims for the carbs? What are those? Don't need any for my Polaris. Must be a Doo thing.

Sometimes its better to keep your mouth shut and then other people don't have a clue to what you don't know.

The 800R carbs have non adjustable needles, only one clip postion, a shim kit allows you to raise the needles in half steps or more, actually can be used very effectively with adjustable needles also as you can then move the heedle by half a clip also.

Good Luck with the pol, I'm guessing no doo owners will have to try and file a class action lawsuit as pol owners were doing with that 900!!!

ROFLMAO!!! Was thinking something similar myself! Got my carbs with needles in #2 WOB (washer on bottom), but no shims!

There also refered to as "yammie shims" and are used to shorten the needle as it drops by using what is commonly refered to as needle shims. The clip position on the needle as stated is ideal for for mid range adjustments. However the mid range is running pretty crisp on XP's above 8000 feet....As in T/A case he's also been riding the same location every time with his XP.

Anything is possible though.

OT

Don't worry about it T/A thats normal for a rotax. The good new is you was'nt flying on of those ulta-lights with the rotax!
