Mine is lighter than that Stoney!! How about some weights on that Bad Boy Ted?

~Rookie

uhhh, maybe you missed the "TITANIUM" part rookie. You're gunna have to triple your budget to compete on a scale with that holzy sled.....hahaha

Looky here SHMO, nobody has seen Holtz TI-IQr on a scale. And my "CMX Belt drive" will drop 15lbs off from a conventional chain driven system. :p:p

Stoney was right there the night they weighed, and you know that. It was ready to run. Actually, I think they fired it off after weighing it. And besides, CMX only claims 10-12 pounds of weight savings for the belt drive (which I highly question).

so either way, it's pretty apparent you will lie about the true weight of your sled....hahaha

Sorry for the stupid question as I realize I am new to this stuff, but here it goes. What Does IQR mean, Are these sleds for deep powder riding? Are these sleds for climbing/Highmarking.

These sleds seem to be set up the way a sled should be set up with alot of travel so you can hit the big bumps and it will suck them up. Will the shorter tracks compete with the longer tracks in powder?

Anyway thanks for your time as I am trying to learn. Very sweet sleds guys.

IQR means IQ Racer. It is Polaris' race chassis that people have found to dominate snocross so why not extend them out and see how they do in the mountains. From what I have read, they are awesome in the steep and deep when set up right. On top of the performance, they are defenatly a sled that you won't see everyday in the hills.

Thanks they look awesome, looks like they can handle the bigger stuff better. I was wonderng why the stock sleds didn't come with more travel, looks like you just have to mod it the way you want.

I saw price on these were around 16,000, is this about normal? I realize you can add anything and the sky is the limit depending on how fat your wallet is.

Again thanks for the answers. I am goning to be moving and it looks like snowmobiling will be in my future again. I can't wait. I am trying to get back into to things and these sleds look like they have what it takes.

Ick, you pretty much answered your question right there. You can spend a lot more or a lot less for one depending on what components you use on it. For 16k you get a brand new iqr chassis with brand new parts, but if you want lighter suspension, bigger motor, etc you will pay for it. All of these pics are of custom builds so you have to consider the cost of your time to build one. Mine was a used stock 440 shortrack when I bought it (for $3500 usd) and I had a lot of the parts I wanted to use already for it so the total cost was under 8k to build, but I did it all myself.
When put together right they are considered by many to be the ultimate mountain sled

what are u guys running for big wheel kits on the stock suspensions I havnt been able to find many opitions

I would like to run 8 inch wheels

Anyone that thinks these things are light is crazy. The IQ-R bulkhead is heavy duty and weighs a LOT. Obviously you can add/subtract from there with aftermarket stuff but the bulkhead does weigh in at a few pounds.

And the chaincase in the IQ-R is the same one found in many other Polaris sleds with the exception of the 2005 Fusions.

That whole CMX beltdrive debate makes me laugh as well.... what is missing between a CMX system vs. a conventional chaincase. It still takes a large bracket that bolts to the sled. (ie, the same as a chaincase) the only difference is?? A chain vs. a belt. So now chains weight 16lbs. and a belt 1lb? Or is it the cover that weighs this big 15lb. difference. BTW, hyvo chain set ups are found to be 98-99% efficient.

T-zing Rookie doesn't really ever ride, well maybe motorcycles once and awhile. I think he was tellin me about this dream about ridin a hog on cloud nine or something and next thing your know he's trading in his gortex for some buttless chaps and tatoos( bad visual by the way). So I'm thinking the belt drive on his IQr is just a big weird mixup from rookie la la land.

ok ten-zing how much does my iqr weigh? how much does your iqr weigh? How much does a d-8 weigh? what would you consider a lightweight sled? I agree with you about the exaggerated weight difference between a belt drive and a chaincase but you are way off base about the iqr weight. Even a poorly built 800 iqr weighs less than its factory big bro rmk what are you basing your info on, the way it looks? I don't think your eyes are a very good measuring device. Also what other sleds use the same chaincase?

Yeah Ten-zing, when was the last time that you had your eyes calibrated? Since you can tell the weight of a sled just by looking at it, at least we'll know that your eyes are accurate. As for the the "Debate" about the beltdrive and the chaindrive? That's just some joking between me and my buddies. But your question "What's the difference"? Are you serious? Just look at the composite of the parts in the CMX System. I have yet to see a stock chain drive system that has aluminum gears, driveshaft and a gun drilled chrome molly jackshaft. I guest we're ALL crazy thinking that these IQR mountain MODs are light. But there again I use a scale to measure sled weights. Just for you tho, I'll schedule myself for a cat scan. Thanks for the heads up Bro.:D:D:D

~Rookie

he may nto be talking about light compared to some factory sleds. last i checked the iqr was the heavyest race sled which is where most people get the fact that there "heavy".

Well,

I have to admit, I don't "see" anywhere that an IQR would have an advantage in weight. At least not comparable weight, meaning part for part. I am sure that a lot of the sleds shown on this thread are fairly light, albeit due to the aftermarket and custom built parts used on them. Not due to the fact that they started life as an IQR. However, I would still like to hear from some guys that have had these things on a scale. What do they weigh boys? Surely somebody has had one on a scale.

PS: Hey rookie, don't sweat what stoney says. He's just getting nervous that his sled might not be as freakishly light as he once thought. Pound for pound and horsepower for horespower is what it takes. And, I think his bored out battery operated bomb bardy eh'is pretty much tapped out. ;)

I thought the same thing; they don't "look" very light. But here is what we found (this is off of memory):

A bone stock 2006 iqr was about 40 pounds lighter than a 2006 600 rmk with a 155" series 5.1, holz front and rear suspension and a SLP pipe.

Now the stock IQr front suspension is about 22 lbs heaver than a holz RMK front suspension.

the stock 121 IQr skid is 60 lbs, holz skid w/ 155 rails is 43, so 17 lbs lighter.

The stock 121" track with studs is 50 lbs; my 155 weights 52.

the stock 440 motor and y pipe is about 68 lbs

stock 800 cfi with ecu and y-pipe is 84 lbs.

Going off of that an 800 cfi 155 should weight about 60 lbs less than a 2006 rmk (and the rmk had holz front and rear (so about 15 lbs lighter than stock))

As soon as mine is back together i'll post pics of it on the scale.
