Hey there fellow gimpsters......

Just checkin in. I was able to get back to work this week (good thing I have a desk job).

Doc says I will be golfing by August.....I'm gonna try to beat that by at least 2 months.

I'll get some pics up this week when I get time. PT is a rough go, never had to work this hard to rehab.

Hope you guys are all making progress as well.

Injury vs "it hurts". Debate that topic....

I was in Helena on July 13th one year...might have been about 2002.

105°.

Running on a grass drag track.
Wearing jean shorts, tennis shoes, t-shirt, tek vest and helmet.

Testing a nitrous kit.

Had it pinned. Full shift out....was FREAKIN FLYING!!!!!!!

85-90mph.

Came over a rise in the track and saw IT.

A haybale that had one string broke and it was rounded out cause the other one was still tight.
Bale was OLD, soggy and HEAVY!!!

Had enough time to say "oh sht" and let off the gas.

Both skis went back down on the track in time (and they were turned to the left a little bit when they hit) to make my sled dart a little left.

Only hit the bale with half the front end.

I flew head first over the bars.

Superman style.

Landed 50 feet away on my forehead. Flopped into a barrell roll and landed on my hands and knees.

Saw the sled cartwheeling behind me with a flailing T-arm stabbing the ground as it rolled.

Got up and tried to get out of it's way. Shopped short of me.

It all happened very quickly.

Haly bale was beside me. Mostly intact as it was before the collision.

It was disloged 50 feet also. The owner said he weighed it later. I think he said it was over 150-200lbs.

Don't remember much after that for about 4 hours. I was MESSED up.

I do remember things starting to hurt and then everything closed in. An enormous pressure was starting to very quickly kick in on my head. Tunnel vision.
Things were going black.

I fell to my knees adn that was my last memory.

I do recall laying on a gurney in the hallway at the hospital and a guy laying next to me.
He was messed up looking. Pastie white and ash colored skin. He had been hit by lightning on Canyon Ferry Reservoir. I have no idea if he lived.

I also recall everyone at the hospital asking my phone number. I gave them the phone number from when I was a little kid that we had until I was 6 years old. Weird.

Had an MRI and a CAT scan that night. Don't remember either of them.

My dad told me (he and my wife came to get me and drive me home the next day) that I repeated the same stories to him for the 2.5 hour drive all the way home.

My neck hurt for a month. It took a long time before I could jog, jump, climb stairs, turn my head or do anything that elevated my pulse. I still get these shooting pains down my neck sometimes when I turn it wrong. They stop me in my tracks but that could be related to the Chiari Malformation at my brain stem too. LOL Didn't kow I had that until an MRI follow-up just two years ago. Don't know if that's related or not to the sledding crash, and won't ever know for sure.

"Colorado Gimp Crew" member on the Mend

Saw my Doc yesterday....5-1/2 weeks after leg break, got the green light to start weight bearing, TOOK MY FIRST STEPS TODAY!!!
Should be off crutches in a couple of weeks.
Going to the Desert next week for R & R.
How are the other injured survivors recovering???
BTW GYP M 80, nasty looking stitches, my stitches do not even compare! Glad you are on the mend though.

Glad to hear your doing better Bob.:beer; Are you going to Moab?

GYP, you got some serious time on the couch coming to ya. LOL

This is one of those threads that you read the first couple of posts and then skip right to telling your own story. LOL

M-80! What's up! Nice looking ankle there. Looks like a zipper...lol. I finally got my sled fixed and was going to try and ride this weekend but I don't know. I'm still pretty sore. I can walk on it pretty well but can't kneel down. My wife who is an RN, says that I would be a dumba$$ to ride on it and she's probably right. Talk to you later on max thread.

Anyone else starting to do the math on the medical bills?

I only have the hospital bills (facility and 1 sugery facility). No surgeon fees (I had 2 surgerys and I have one more to go). I still don't have any bills for the hand surgeon or the facility he performed it in, the knee surgeon, PT, Lifeflight (I am a member so that should be 0?....we will see).

Anyway, the bill is already up to $30k with one more sugergy to go. Glad I have insurance but that still doesn't erase all of it. I'll defineatly be seeing these numbers run through my head the next time I decide to go big for the camera.

Cheers!
Chris
